I think they were correct to air it too, it's about time all the corruption in that organisation was investigated. Re: [LU] Non LU - More on World Cup
Definitely correct in airing when it was ready to air. That's what news is (or should be) all about. The fact that delegates had the nerve to admit that they voted based on the news story (probably a cop out anyway) just proves the point even further. They are supposed to be doing their job, in voting for a member Association, to host based on the strength of the bid, not on their personal feelings and self interest. They are a joke and a bad one at that! Save your anger and indignation for those who truly deserve it, not the messengers who did their job and a public service in exposing the sham for what it is. Re: [LU] Non LU - More on World Cup
Who gives a fuck if Fifa have some corrupt delegates and we won the bid? Whats the worst that could happen, Russia accuse us of bribing Fifa? As long as we run a clean bid, the most important thing was to get the world cup here, to boost the economy and boost football at the grass roots in this country. Oh and also give us half a chance of winning the thing. And actually, I happen to think the message would have been a hell of a lot stronger if the allegations were made AFTER we won. What reason would we have to make them when we won, apart from genuinely wanting to get it cleaned up? The bloke should be sacked. We pay his wages, we have no choice, he is not directly accountable for his actions, so the BBC should be forced to sack him. -Original Message- From: leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org [mailto:leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org] On Behalf Of Simon Austin Sent: 03 December 2010 22:25 To: leedslist@gn.apc.org Subject: Re: [LU] Non LU - More on World Cup On 03/12/2010 21:23, John Sykes wrote: If no one else, ITV, SKY or whatever was going to air with the story of corruption, then why did BBC have to do it when they did. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2010/11/fifa_football_panorama.html In terms of its timing, we only obtained the list of these payments last month after a secret out-of-court settlement was reached in June 2010 year. Left leaning? don't make me laugh. Are you suggesting that England not getting the WC was some sort of socialist plot hatched in a Trotskyist underground cell and gleefully executed by the BBC fellow travellers(*)? They may be publicly funded (another scam involving tax payers funding the elite) but they are commercially and professionally astute and they showed their programme at truely the maximum impact time - not a whiff of sour grapes as been before the fact either. Weren't you in the business?
