Re: Live edge cedar coffee table

2020-10-27 Thread Tim Ziegler
Hey Mac,

I have done a little testing of that product. Their theory is "a little
goes a long way" is pretty accurate.
We had a seminar at one of our WoodWorkers guild meetings about a year ago
and and we all
got to test the product. Seems pretty good if your into hand applied
finishes but for the jobs I usually do
it was not practical. But with that being said small turnings "Legacy work"
I think it might be great.
Jewelry boxes etc... Expensive though. I encourage you to try it and see
what you think.

Re: Live edge cedar coffee table

2020-10-26 Thread 'David Mann' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
Hello Michael, thanks for the information on the sprayer and kind words. I’ve
driven through your neck of the woods when I was a flatbed driver. The
Canadians love that cedar too, pro paying a good price for it. One of the
reasons this new venture is working out for me is there is so much eastern red
cedar here in East texas, and everybody wants it. Except for those who have it
growing on their property. I’ve actually gotten it for free.
This is an oil based poly I used and when I need some more I’ll try out the
water based. Was just looking at the Apollo sprayers too, they look similar to
the Fuji and the only reason I was looking at those is a few furniture
builders I was chatting with mentioned it. So yours has lasted 10 years, that’s
pretty good. I’m definitely going to need one, the humidity is so bad here I’d
never be able to just plug a spray gun into a compressor.

Take care, David

RE: Live edge cedar coffee table

2020-10-26 Thread Michael Kratky
David,
Very nice striking wood and workmanship, red cedar is hard to come by here in
the Adirondacks being a sawyer for over 20 years I've never come across any of
those logs to mill, interestingly what there is get shipped to Canada where
they process it but talking with a logger the other day the border is still
closed so their industry is hurting.

Here’s my version of what a cedar live edge coffee table should look like.
Turned out better than expected and the customer is very pleased. This was the
last project with my old “steely “ model legacy, still working on the new on.
