[LegacyUG] Relationship change

2010-07-10 Thread David
My younger, full brother was adopted by our mother's second husband.
I have set his child status and relationship to the second husband, as
adopted.
He now shows in Set and Calculate Relationships as my half-brother.
Is there a way to change this back to brother, without messing up the other
settings?

[LegacyUG] Erroneous source citation

2010-07-10 Thread David
I am getting an erroneous source citation on a birth entry in a Family Group
Record.
The event in question actually had no source showing in the List of Assigned
Sources.
The erroneous source is attached to a group of people completely unrelated
to the subject of the Family Group Record.
The subject of the Family Group Record does not appear in the list for the
source.
I added a new source to the event, hoping to supplant the erroneous one.
Now, page one on the FGR still shows the erroneous source, but where the
birth is noted on the Chronology page, the new source appears under a
different endnote number!!
The erroneous source doesn’t seem to show up in other reports containing the
same subject/event.
Any ideas??

David,

A couple of suggestions for starters.
1. In Master ListsSourcesOptions Purge unused
2. FileFile MaintenanceCheck Repair and Clean up Master Lists, selecting
everything to do with Sources.

Jennifer,
You need the Picture Gallery Clipboard. It doesn't work
from the Picture Centre but is fine from any Picture Gallery.
Just right click on the thumbnail in your source gallery and you get a
dropdown with options to Copy , for just the selected item or Copy All
for all of the items in the gallery. Once selected go to the target
gallery and right click in a blank frame to get another option
dropdown with a Paste option , which also tells you how many items are
on the clipboard. All your Subject , date and description data is
included with the image.

This same right-click menu includes Copy/Append and Copy/Append All.

Am I right in thinking that this is for use with split-screen view, to
copy a picture from the gallery on one side to the gallery on the other?

Jenny,
I don't think so. I think it is intended for use where you
want to add pictures from more than one source gallery or if you are
selecting more than one, but no all from a single gallery. You would
use Copy/Append to indicate that you were just adding to the pictures
already loaded onto the clipboard.

[LegacyUG] Problem with fixed report narrative

2010-07-10 Thread Ken
Greetings all,

I couldn't find any mention of this in the archives so thought I'd bring it to
your
attention. When I produce any of the Book Reports (Descendant, Descendant
Narrative,
Ancestor, Multiple Lines of Descent) the location Over Stowey is not treated
correctly any
of the fixed narratives within the report as you can see from the example
below. For some
reason the word Over is treated as an adjective or adverb rather than part of a
place name
and as such the first letter is not capitalized. In addition, the preposition
' in ' is
dropped prior to the place name. I don't know if other similar place names
cause this
problem but I can say there isn't one with Nether Stowey, Somerset.

As I say the problem only appears when running the Book Reports and it occurs
only with
the fixed narratives, not in the Notes as you can see in the example below.
The location
Over Stowey is okay in the Family Group Report and all of the charts.

EXAMPLE---

2. Elizabeth Slocombe (Sarah 1) was born before 21 Mar 1779 over Stowey,
Somerset,
England and was baptized 21 Mar 1779 over Stowey, Somerset, England.

Elizabeth married Aaron Bailey 27 Aug 1805 over Stowey, Somerset, England.

General Notes: Aaron Bailey appears as Aaron Bayley in the Over Stowey parish
baptism
records for his daughter Ann.

Children of Aaron Bailey and Elizabeth Slocombe:

  3 F i. Ann Bailey was born 26 May 1806 over Stowey,
Somerset, England
and was baptized 22 Jun 1806 over Stowey, Somerset, England.

Hope someone can duplicate this situation and provide me with a solution.

Thank you.

Re: [LegacyUG] Problem with fixed report narrative

2010-07-10 Thread John S. Adams
A work around would be to use the No-Break space from the Windows
Character Map for the space in Over Stowey. Then Legacy should recognize
it as a single name, rather than a name preceded by a prepostion.

 Greetings all,

I couldn't find any mention of this in the archives so thought I'd bring
 it to your
attention. When I produce any of the Book Reports (Descendant,
 Descendant Narrative,
Ancestor, Multiple Lines of Descent) the location Over Stowey is not
 treated correctly any
of the fixed narratives within the report as you can see from the example
 below. For some
reason the word Over is treated as an adjective or adverb rather than part
 of a place name
and as such the first letter is not capitalized. In addition, the
 preposition ' in ' is
dropped prior to the place name. I don't know if other similar place
 names cause this
problem but I can say there isn't one with Nether Stowey, Somerset.

As I say the problem only appears when running the Book Reports and it
 occurs only with
the fixed narratives, not in the Notes as you can see in the example
 below.

Elizabeth married Aaron Bailey 27 Aug 1805 over Stowey, Somerset,
 England.

General Notes: Aaron Bailey appears as Aaron Bayley in the Over Stowey
 parish baptism
 records for his daughter Ann.

Children of Aaron Bailey and Elizabeth Slocombe:

  3 F i. Ann Bailey was born 26 May 1806 over Stowey,
 Somerset, England
and was baptized 22 Jun 1806 over Stowey, Somerset, England.

RE: [LegacyUG] Problem with fixed report narrative

2010-07-10 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I just went into my file, found a few examples that I didn't fix the first
time, I changed them to what I wanted, saved, turned off Legacy, and then
re-opened and the changes stuck. I also have places in Scandinavia with the
name Over Indal, and it has always printed as expected. There may be a problem,
and if so, the staff will probably look into it on Monday. Did you go in and
edit the place name in the Master Location List. Changing it in any other field
only changes at that place, and creates 2 versions.

RE: [LegacyUG] Problem with fixed report narrative

2010-07-10 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
That is why if you have one of these, you can never ever choose any choice but
only the DO NOT CHANGE WHAT I ENTER. After checking all the places found, you
can never switch back to any of the other choices. It is not actually a bug,
but a grammar/punctuation thing. When I switched back to one of the others, the
next time I turned my computer back on, it returned to the wrong choice for
everything. Took me a month to find and fix. 3 years later when I switched to a
new laptop,I restored to the new one, I did notice that the program opened in
default, and could not find a way to open using 'Do not change what I enter'
before restore and make it stick. I gave up after a few tries and just fixed it
over again. In older versions of Legacy, the program remembered the old added
and modified dates. When I restored my data into Windows 7, it changed all to
the install date. I was using the mnodified date to check what was the oldest
info for re-checking what
might be new. If I had known that, I would have printed a date list of some
sort, to keypunch in the dates I actually had CHANGED the data. These two
things are mentioned nowhere I have found.

Thanks for the suggestions Ron, though sad to say, none of them worked.
This is very strange. The erroneous citation only shows up in the Family Group
Record and seemingly, just for this one individual birth event???

The event in question actually had no source showing in the List of

The erroneous source is attached to a group of people completely
unrelated to the subject of the Family Group Record.
The subject of the Family Group Record does not appear in the list
 for the source.
I added a new source to the event, hoping to supplant the erroneous
one. Now, page one on the FGR still shows the erroneous source, but
where the birth is noted on the Chronology page, the new source
appears under a different endnote number!!
The erroneous source doesn’t seem to show up in other reports
 containing the same subject/event.
 Any ideas??

David,

A couple of suggestions for starters.
1. In Master ListsSourcesOptions Purge unused
2. FileFile MaintenanceCheck Repair and Clean up Master Lists, selecting
everything to do with Sources.
