If you need to ask how to open Legacy in Access I'm afraid I rather
doubt you'll be able to do anything useful when you've done so!

The most important thing to do first is BACK UP YOUR LEGACY DATABASE.

Then you just open your Legacy database as you would any other database
file, except you need EITHER to rename it from .fdb to .mdb OR select
All files (*.*) as the file type before selecting your database in Access.

Don't change anything unless you really know what you're doing and if
you do change something and it all goes pear-shaped ... well, you did
backup, didn't you?

Given that the OP said she wasn't a computer expert makes me wonder
why she'd want to do this also, but if the reason is solely to perform
queries or create custom reports beyond the interface's capability,
then it would be best to open the file and then make a copy from which
to work.

Certainly there are people who can manipulate the data directly (think
Dennis Kowallek and his LTools), but they're pretty knowledgable.

In fact, given the apparent lack of DB knowledge, Peter would be better
using LTools than accessing the DB directly. When using Access to manipulate
the DB, or even for reports, one should always work from a copy.

I received 2 calls in the last 2 days from Legacy trying to sell
something. I never quite figured out what it was because the caller went on
and on
about nothing until I finally hung up on him. I do NOT appreciate these
calls wasting my time!!!

Re: [LegacyUG] New product in our online store

2011-03-11 Thread Kathy Meyer
It might have been World Vital Records but I doubt it was actually Legacy;
what would they sell? World Vital Records has a special offer available to
users of Legacy Family Tree and they have been calling to make sure everyone
is aware of it. I did have a hard time getting the salesperson to accept
that I really, truly did not want to take them up on the offer. I've
checked it out many times over the years, wondering if it had become
something valuable to my particular research but so far it hasn't. It's a
valuable service but not to me. It's like selling access to Swedish records
when you don't have any Swedish ancestors. She was very pleasant and
finally did give up on convincing me but she tried very hard to try to see
if she could find anything that would be useful to my research.

Besides that, there are plenty of people out there using all sorts of
avenues to get our contact information to try to sell us something and they
will use anything they can to make us think they are legit.

I suppose you could block that number? Good luck! Kathy
