[LegacyUG] Persons with only assumed/acquired surnames

2012-03-14 Thread brittongen
One of my lines has a Richard Pratt with a spouse Richord, per IGI and other
sources. Her PCC Will gives the true tale. She describes herself as Richard
Pratt, widow, and her daughters by surname, e.g. my daughter Osmond. A
collateral Pratt line was then nationally famous, Lords Chief Justice and
becoming the Earls and Marquesses of Camden, so she most probably had
pretensions to rural grandeur, styling herself and daughters by spouses
surnames.

When faced with this about 8 years back, I punted, leaving Richord (as
placeholder) and the IGI source in Legacy, ignoring the daughters but putting a
reference to an external folder with the will copy and discussion. I'm now
having to revisit this having recently connected to a cousin needing the whole
line, and it's not obvious how to proceed. Richord is obviously
mistranscribed from Richard, so that needs correction. I have neither given or
surname for her. For her daughters, I have no given names, but reasonably
reliably their spouse's surnames. For their spouses, I have only their
presumed surnames. Any guesses as to the best way of entering this into
Legacy, given that my new cousin will probably propagate it into LDS and/or
Ancestry?

Thanks

RE: [LegacyUG] Persons with only assumed/acquired surnames

2012-03-14 Thread Michele Lewis
I would put Richord Pratt and Richard Pratt in as aAKAs. In her main name
field I would put Mrs. Pratt [Pratt surname, Mrs. in the prefix field]. This
would be one of the rare time that I would put Mrs. Last Name in as a main name
but you have no other way. I am sure you have it all explained in the notes.
I think this is the best you can do for now.

'Unknown' as a given name tells it like it is ... as does 'Pratt-Wife'
if the maiden name is unknown.

description:

581: Problem with Stretch Fonts in notes
778: Legacy Home Tab - Display Font Size

0002331: Screen font problems in Vista 64 Bit

[LegacyUG] Searching for place of marriage

2012-03-14 Thread Michele Lewis
I am having a hard time figuring out how to make Legacy do what I want. I
want to find everyone in my file that was married in Greene Co, GA. When I
put

MARRIAGE, MARRIAGE PLACE, CONTAINS, GREENE

I get a list of people that have things like , , North Carolina, United
States as their marriage location. I also get people that have nothing in
their marriage blank. Out of the search list, only 2 were married in Greene
Co. Where are the rest of them. I have re-done the search several times
and I keep getting the same thing.

Try this - in the search box,
Marriage, Marriage Place, Equal To and then your place - in my
instance Seattle, King, Washington, USA - and it brought up my
marriages that contained that place (but of course you needed to enter
that) then I went to options an unchecked married names - got my 148
marriages in Seattle. Try it and let us know if that works for you.

Re: [LegacyUG] Searching for place of marriage

2012-03-14 Thread Ron Ferguson
Michele,

What you are getting is clearly incorrect. Obviously I cannot test for
Greene, so I used Eccles and the same criteria as yourself. It returned
124 people all of whom (or at least the quite large sample which I checked)
had Eccles in their place of marriage.

It may just be that a Check/Repair may resolve the problem.

Re: [LegacyUG] What happens after I press the This Person is the Same as Mine button.

2012-03-14 Thread Brian/Support
The only time Legacy transfers information from your file to nFS is when
you use the arrow icons to send data from your Legacy person to nFS. The
This Person is the Same as Mine button adds the Person Id from nFS to
the Family Search ID for the person in your Legacy file. This ID is the
link between your person and the person in nFS.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Locking up after Update

2012-03-14 Thread James Cook
Thanks for checking. I've rebooted several times, turned off McAfee,
downloaded the update vs install from web. Nothing fixed it for me.
Have sent an emal to support.

RE: [LegacyUG] Persons with only assumed/acquired surnames

Hmm! And I thought I had problematic families! Sorry, can't offer any advice
though.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Persons with only assumed/acquired surnames

Any guesses as to the best way of entering this into
Legacy, given that my new cousin will probably propagate it into LDS and/or
Ancestry?

Thanks
