Re: [LegacyUG] Delete key causes cursor to jump to next field

2014-08-25 Thread Boyd Miller
Hi Cathy,

I have redefined the problem - it is the first use in a field of Delete
followed by Right arrow that causes the cursor to move to the next field.

The problem arises when working in any of the Notes or Source detail
fields, and probably in other areas too. The clipboard isn't the issue.
I'm usually using Sourcewriter sources, but the same thing arises in
Basic sources.
Anywhere in a line, the first time I press Delete to remove a space (say
one that has come from a BDM database) and then the right arrow to move
along the line of text. The cursor then takes off to the next field.
When I come to make another key stroke, I have to retrieve the cursor
with the mouse.

It seems to be only on the first use of **the delete key followed by the
right arrow** in a field that makes the cursor jump to the next field.
Once I have brought it back with the mouse it stays where I am working
even for further use of the delete and right arrow keys.

If I move the cursor to the next position for an amendment using the
mouse there is no problem until I first use the combination of delete
followed by right arrow. Then the cursor disappears out of the field.
The problem is repeatable, and does not appear to be intermittent.

I have this problem on a new computer that I set up a week ago, but I
have had the same issue on my netbook and both computers for all builds
of the program since the beginning of Legacy version 8 . I'm using
Windows 8.1, 64 bit, 8Gb RAM, Legacy v8.0.0.439.
I can't see any reason for this strange behaviour, or any setting in
Customise that relates.

I select with the mouse and the cursor stays where it was when I
 delete the selection.

There is a bug with a missing cursor on the Source Clipboard but it's
intermittent so more information would be great.

More commonly is the misunderstanding that the search doesn't find their

So the post was aimed at and meant to be helpful for those who fit the
above criteria. Since there is a wide range of users the information will

I cannot reproduce the problem but for the two that can, I would suspect a
keyboard driver issue and wonder if those two are using the same type or brand
of keyboard.

Hi Cathy,

I have redefined the problem - it is the first use in a field of Delete
followed by Right arrow that causes the cursor to move to the next field.

The problem arises when working in any of the Notes or Source detail fields,
and probably in other areas too.  The clipboard isn't the issue. I'm usually
using Sourcewriter sources, but the same thing arises in Basic sources.ÂÂ
Anywhere in a line, the first time I press Delete to remove a space (say one
that has come from a BDM database) and then the right arrow to move along the
line of text.  The cursor then takes off to the next field.  When I come
to make another key stroke, I have to retrieve the cursor with the mouse.

It seems to be only on the first use of **the delete key followed by the right
arrow** in a field that makes the cursor jump to the next field.ÂÂ
Once I have brought it back with the mouse it stays where I am working even for
further use of the delete and right arrow keys.

If I move the cursor to the next position for an amendment using the mouse
there is no problem until I first use the combination of delete followed by
right arrow. Then the cursor disappears out of the field.ÂÂ
The problem is repeatable, and does not appear to be intermittent.

I have this problem on a new computer that I set up a week ago, but I have had
the same issue on my netbook and both computers for all builds of the program
since the beginning of Legacy version 8 .  I'm using Windows 8.1, 64 bit,
8Gb RAM, Legacy v8.0.0.439.
I can't see any reason for this strange behaviour, or any setting in Customise
that relates.

Hi Boyd,

I haven't seen it and can't reproduce it but I'm not sure I fully understand
what you are doing.

You are talking about Source Details?
Are you working on the Source Clipboard at the time?
Are you using a Basic Source or a SourceWriter source when it happens?

More importantly, how are you selecting the text to delete?
I select with the mouse and the cursor stays where it was when I delete the
selection.

There is a bug with a missing cursor on the Source Clipboard but it's
intermittent so more information would be great.

Does anyone else have this problem? Have I got something set incorrectly?
Or do we have a bug?

Re: [LegacyUG] Sorting by date of birth

2014-08-25 Thread Chick Lewis
This capability has been requested before but not incorporated by Legacy.
However, it can be done with LTools, thanks to Dennis Kowallek.

The Legacy Index tab can be changed to display the User ID instead of the
RIN (see Options), and thus can be sorted by that column. So the trick is
to populate Legacy's User ID field with a sortable birthdate. (Assuming
that you are not using Legacy's User ID field for something else.)

In LTools, you would run this using the Run Raw SQL tool.

Be sure to make a backup of your database first, or try this on a COPY of
your good database.

 No, I don't think so.

In Index View and Name List you can sort by Surname or Forename or
RIN/UserID (that last depends which you have chosen: it's one or the
 other, not both.)

 Sherry,

I try the Legacy Help search first, often nothing useful with the words
I search for. Then I use Google. That usually works. Sometimes it
provides the word I need to search for in Legacy Help. I never
completely trust anything I find on the web.

Suggestions take time... And often are never implemented.

Re: Google-Re: [LegacyUG] Index View Back up Prompt

2014-08-25 Thread Larry Lee
Jay, Sherry,

When users post to the list asking for help because they are not able to
find what they are searching for I think it would be advantageous if they
would mention the terms they used that didn't work. This could help develop
the keyword list for future releases.

Send in a suggestion if you think a topic could be better indexed.
Dave usually tackles those right away (they're easy to do)

Major suggestions for new features do take a lot more time before they
 *may* be implemented.
