[LegacyUG] gedcoms
I want to generate a gedcom for a specific ancestor and all his descendants. I created him as a focus group including all descendants. I saved the focus group to line 1 and gave it a name. When I have him selected in Family view and then click File, Expert Gedcom File, then click Select File Name and Start Export, Legacy cannot find the Focus Group on my hard drive. Where is the Focus Group? It is in my saved list but how does that correspond to my hard drive or how do I access it? Yahoo mail is a real problem for us. They've done some things to their headers which supposedly stop spammers and it's caused problems for all sorts of lists, unless you're posing to a Yahoo group! I'd recommend using a different email address for contacting us and sending emails to the list - see if that doesn't make a difference. I’ve created the new gedcom and imported it into Legacy. When I open Legacy the default is my tree. How do I find the new file and open it? When I click on File, Open File, and browse to it on my hard drive and select it, nothing happens. I remain in my file. Also, when I select “Have Legacy Select a List of File to Choose From,” there are 9 files showing in the list. Re: [LegacyUG] gedcoms
There was a problem recently with exporting a Focus Group to gedcom (some of the individuals were missing from the gedcom). I'm not aware this has been fixed. An alternative method, is to Tag everyon in the Focus Group, then export the Tagged people to gedcom. Sorry I'm not at my main computer, so can't access Legacy for details. Hopefully someone else can enlarge on this. Mary On 20 March 2015 at 11:33, Barton Lewis bartonle...@optonline.net wrote: I want to generate a gedcom for a specific ancestor and all his descendants. [LegacyUG] Changing Color Schemes
While watching Geoff on the last Webinar as he briefly played around with changing color schemes, I decided to experiment with some color setting files (.csf) from other sources just to see what would happen. These included Acrobat's Pre-Press color setting files and some others from Photoshop and a few from elsewhere on the web. After figuring out that none of these were really intended for use with the Legacy interface (they turned most items black), I went back to the Options button within the Set Color Scheme window and selected Reset the Color Scheme to Legacy-Default. Note that there is another option to Reset to User-Defaults (if one was saved). Interestingly the window that opened asked me to confirm if I wanted to Reset to User-Defaults. That's NOT what I selected. I tried again by selecting Reset to Legacy-Defaults and once again I was asked if I wanted to Reset to User-Defaults. This time I answered Yes and fortunately got back the Legacy Defaults. I then changed the Color Scheme to some ugly looking pea-green and saved that as my User Default. I retried the option to Reset to Legacy-Default, got the same dumb question about resetting to User-Default, answered yes, and fortunately things were reset to Legacy Defaults and not the User Defaults. OK, so am I having a senior moment here or does the Confirmation window have the wrong words on it and should read Reset all colors to the Legacy-Default setting? instead of the erroneous Reset all colors to the User-Default setting? You'll note that the confirmation window actually asks both questions at the same time but I've got a one-track mind so I get easily confused. J And the most important question of all is why did the programmer think it was necessary to put a hyphen between User and Default or Legacy and Default? Was that an Arizona thing? When I open Legacy the default is my tree. How do I find the new file and open it? When I click on File, Open File, and browse to it on my hard drive and select it, nothing happens. I remain in my file. Also, when I select “Have Legacy Select a List of File to Choose From,” there are 9 files showing in the list. When I click “Refresh List,” I get a message saying “No Legacy family files could be found on your computer system.” Barton From: Michele/Support [mailto:mich...@legacyfamilytree.com] Sent: Friday, March 20, 2015 8:04 AM To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com mailto:legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] gedcoms Barton, When you create the gedcom down and the bottom you will see a button that says. “Record Selection.” Click that and then chose Selected records contained in the focus group. RE: [LegacyUG] gedcoms
Barton, When you go to Open File and you select the option to let Legacy search for your files, that is the file search page I am talking about. At the bottom there is a button to tell Legacy which drives to search. This might have gotten changed to something other than the C: drive (assuming that is where your files are). Also, you said, “I want to be able to easily switch back and forth between gedcoms.” Gedcoms have to be converted to Legacy data files before you can open them and switch back and forth between them. RE: [LegacyUG] gedcoms
Thanks, Michele. You're right - my C drive was not selected. Now all gedcoms are showing. (I tend to use the word gedcom as a generic term and what I really meant was fdb file.) But, now that all my fdb files are showing I see I just need to click File, Open File to get to the fdb I need. But I am having a new problem. I selected Add an individual and descendants in my Focus Group and no spouses are showing in the file that resulted. In the Focus Group list, the words and **All Spouses** are showing at the end of the file name. I presumed this meant that was default (to show spouses) but they are not showing. Also, my entire line on my dad's side (all direct ancestors including spouses) is showing in the file, although my ancestor that I have chosen to generate this file is on my mom's side. Why are both these things happening? I only want to see my maternal ancestor, his wives and children and all his descendants and their spouses. Finally, if I don’t know the genealogy software of the person I am sending the gedcom to, should I choose Basic?
