Re: [LegacyUG] Child status
Hi, Thank you for the reply..however we have a daughter and the biological parents and the adoptive parents. I found where to add on the child status page(thank you) but after adding the status biological to one set, we went to the adoptive parents and they now had biological status. So we changed this to adoptive and then checked back on the biological parents and their status had changed from bio to adoptive? I am trying to help someone...so is there a bug or has she connected something wrong. Also both parents status changes when only one has been I put, it.does not appear that two parents can have separate status. Thank you Sue On April 9, 2015, at 6:11 PM, Brian/Support br...@legacyfamilytree.com wrote: Firstly you have to be in the children list not in family view. Once you have the child list open you select the name of the child you want to set then you can set child status and relationships of that child to the two parents. The down arrows you are looking for are on each line where you can select the applicable status or relationship. Adopted is one of the relationships since the child may be adopted by one parent while the biological child of the other. [LegacyUG] Changing default locations
I use a laptop (call it machine A) to access Legacy, but my data is all stored on a desktop that I access through my local network (call it machine B). Legacy on machine A is set up so that the default location for data files and media files is set to the appropriater locations on machine B. Hence when I start Legacy it shows all my family tree files. If Machine B is switched off for any reason (after a power cut or for any other reason) then Legacy on Machine A not only goes back to offering files on C: on machine A in the default directory for data and media files, but changes the defaults that I have set up. Hence, after I get machine B restarted, I have to open the sample file on my laptop and then go into Options and recreate my default locations and save them AGAIN. I can understand Legacy only offering the sample file on C: on my laptop if my other machine is switched off. BUT, I cannot see that it is right for my defaults to be altered without my agreeing to it. If I make changes I have to click Save, but Legacy changes the defaults all on its own if my desktop (machine B) is switched off. Does anybody else have this problem? Re: [LegacyUG] Probable Bug - Bolding Notes in Event Screen
I think she is probably talking about events. I have commented on this several times since the update to 8.0 but never received any replies. The side toolbar giving us ability to bold, underline etc. is no longer there. A huge disappointment. I used to bold the information in the event text that applied only to that specific individual but the event details would be copy/pasted exactly the same otherwise to all related individuals. It sounds like even if you copy/paste text with that sort of formatting won't even be recognized. I really wish they would bring that back. Based on this, it sounds like perhaps ALL of my old events have probably been reformatted to no longer recognize that bolding. Boo! This never happened before this last Legacy update and I have been doing it this way since I moved to Legacy several years ago. Something happened in this last update that put in the codes before and after and stopped underlining when I print out family group sheets or any other format. I hope this helps to get it fixed. When documenting a census event, I transcribe the census record in the Notes Field. I typically start by pasting the text tab contents into each persons in a census record. Then I Then I highlight the person whose Legacy Record I am working in. The problem is that when I first Bold the name of the head of household and save the Event, instead of Bolding the first name, the system puts a /b in front of the name. After the name has been saved and I pull it up again, I can delete the /b and Bold the name and then it holds. An example is below: Text/Comments tab contains the transcribed Census Record for this household as follows: Elenor McGINNIS, head, white, female, born in Mar 1835, age 65, widowed, bore 6 children - 4 still alive, born in Kentucky, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Alabama, able to read write and speak English; Elza V McGINNIS, grandson, white, male, born in July 1856, age 13, single, born in Missouri, parents born in Kentucky, attended school, able to read write and speak English. When I copy the text (above) and paste it into the Census Event Notes field, for Eleanor McGinnis, I put in one blank line followed by 1) just as Geoff explained in his Census Event DVD. Then I delete the semi-colon after each person's information and replace it with a period. Then I hit enter and type 2) for the second person. And so forth. Before saving the record I Bold the first name, in this example Elenor McGinnis. After saving the Census Event, when I reopen the census event it looks like this. 1) \bElenor McGINNIS, head, white, female, born in Mar 1835, age 65, widowed, bore 6 children - 4 still alive, born in Kentucky, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Alabama, able to read write and speak English. 2) Elza V McGINNIS, grandson, white, male, born in July 1856, age 13, single, born in Missouri, parents born in Kentucky, attended school, able to read write and speak English. but it should read as follows: 1) Elenor McGINNIS, head, white, female, born in Mar 1835, age 65, widowed, bore 6 children - 4 still alive, born in Kentucky, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Alabama, able to read write and speak English. 2) Elza V McGINNIS, grandson, white, male, born in July 1856, age 13, single, born in Missouri, parents born in Kentucky, attended school, able to read write and speak English. This seems to happen only when I paste the information into the note the first time. Please see if you can replicate this error. Thanks. Dave

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy on a Mac Using Parallels
Karen: The problem you are having is you are sharing folders between the Mac and Windows. I would recommend you turn off that feature in Parallels and keep the Windows Mac filing systems separate. It really becomes an issue for Legacy to find the pictures on the Mac side if you share the filing systems. Once you have done that, then: you would copy the pictures to the C:\user\My Documents\Legacy\Media\ folder. Then, attach the pictures from that Windows 7 folder which Legacy expects to find its pictures. I use DropBox on both the Mac Windows side which allows you to place the picture files in a DropBox folder and then they are available on both the Mac and Windows side. Again, the secret is to turn off File Sharing in Parallels between the Mac Windows VM. Good luck. ___ Leon Chapman chap...@gmail.com - On Sat, Apr 11, 2015 at 2:38 PM, Karen Howard howar...@earthlink.net wrote: I have a Mac computer, OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1, Legacy update 8.0.0.473, Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac, Version 10.1.4 (28883), and Windows 7.
