[LegacyUG] Sorting children - twins

2021-03-04 Thread John Francis
I have Legacy set to sort children into birth order, which is usually
fine. However, I have a case of twins, born five minutes apart, in which
Legacy has got them the wrong way round (well, how could it have
known?), and I would like to swap them round, but can't see how to do
this.

Can anyone help, please?

Legacy has a long-time bug which makes it incompatible with the

To do this press your keyboard's Windows key along with the

I therefore conclude that it may be your computer setup that causes

There are three icons you can use for history; BACK FORWARD and the

Re: [LegacyUG] Couple married twice

2016-10-15 Thread John Francis

Thanks for your suggestions, Mike and Jack.

Yes, lack of permission from the Commanding Officer at the time of the
first marriage is by far the most likely explanation, but there are
other possibilities; for example, it is just possible that James was
married to someone else, so the first marriage was bigamous, but that
his first wife died between 1868 and 1870, thus enabling a valid
marriage between James and Ellen in early 1871. I am looking into this.

Thanks again.

This is thought to be the reason I have a similar situation. I have a

The archivist said there had been several such "double marriages" amongst
members of the army. If they married without permission of the Commanding
Officer, then the army didn't recognise the marriage and so the wife
wouldn't be able to claim a widow's pension. His army records give his date
of marriage as the later date.

I entered both marriages as though they were true second marriages, just
that the two people were the same. Ie looking at the list of marriages there
are two with the same RINs for the couple. After he died, his widow married
again and so the list of marriages for her has husband 1 twice and then her
2nd husband.
As they didn't have any children it doesn't affect the descendant lists etc

I believe at that time, the soldier would have needed the permission of his

As someone has said before, the trick seems to be to release the mouse

The full size window is not the problem (just click the gadget in the

the left half of your monitor screen. Click the gadget in the upper
right of a full size Legacy window (if you hold your mouse over the
gadget which looks like 2 sheets of paper it will read out as “Restore
Down”). Now, regardless of what size Legacy automatically resized down
to, try to change that size by moving the mouse on an edge of the
Legacy window until the cursor changes to a double ended arrow and
then click and hold down the mouse button dragging that edge to
somewhere you want for the resized window. Release the mouse button
and you expect the newly resized window to remain there but the
chances are that it will spring back to where it was before. It may
take 3 or 4 attempts until it sticks.

Try that same resizing movement on the windows of other applications

As I said before, it’s not a critical error…just annoying for those

What I think has happened, and I've seen this before, is someone on
the list has some malware on his or her computer which has hijacked
their address book and "stolen" the email addresses. That malware has
taken *our* address to show as the "from" line with the person's name.

I've seen this many times - in fact, one of my personal email accounts
was hijacked several years ago - I had only three email addresses in
my address book and the hijacker sent out emails from me to those
three people until I changed my email address. But it's even more
insidious now as they take one of the email addresses in the address
book to send from.

I just looked in my Spam folder and I have a few of these emails. The
"Reply to" is

Badr Harrou <badr.har...@harrousenpai.me>

If it was *our* account hijacked, our account would be the Reply To.

I agree with Leon - change your email passwords before your personal

your email, those emails will be sent out again and again.

And whatever you do, do NOT click on anything in those emails...
