Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a list of all family members shown as living etc

2017-04-14 Thread baxwal...@sky.com

I would like to produce a list of every individual in my tree to check if I've
omitted to show them as died.
I don't have death dates for a number of them.  Equally, I would like to
produce a list to make sure I haven't killed someone off in error.
Thanks

[LegacyUG] Legacy 9.0

2017-04-01 Thread baxwal...@sky.com
I'm a fairly new user of Legacy 8.0 but have noticed a few recent references to
Legacy 9.0.
Are the 'new' features listed or discussed anywhere yet?
Also, is there a reduced cost of an upgrade from Legacy 8.0 ?  I know some
software companies offer this as an incentive.

Check out the Multiple Line of Descent Report. That's the most comprehensive
and you can set it up not to repeat duplicate lines.
However no book report will pick up everyone in your file.

There are two date ranges that Legacy will recognize.
"From date one to date two" or date one - date two; and
Between date one and date two.

I use the first for the case of a known duration eg. Residence:
Minnesota from 1943 to 1956 (based on city directories for these years)
and the second for an event which may have no duration but which
occurred sometime within the range eg married (as in the marriage
ceremony) between 1920 and 1930 (evidence on which I would base this: he
was living at home and single in the 1920 census but married and living
with his wife and children in the 1930 census. Both census records would
by my sources.

For a marriage that lasted a period I would not use a date range. I
would only use the marriage beginning (ceremony date) and if it ended
(other than by death of one spouse) I would enter the date of
divorce/dissolution/separation. It is then obvious to me the marriage
lasted from the first to the second date.

Re: [LegacyUG] Help-adding media to Legacy

Hi Linda
MP3 are audio files.  MP4 are video files.  Hope that helps.

John, thanks for the great lead regarding the program.I have learned the lingo
associated with pictures such as pixels, resolutions, and the various
extensions.  But I'm really in the dark with the sound and video.  According to
the Legacy Help, it mentions using MP3, but not MP4.  I know there is a
difference but I'm clueless as to what it means in the first place much less
the difference.  Is the Help just lagging on those extensions or does Legacy
not play well with MP4 - yet?

Hi Linda
There is a brilliant program that saves YouTube videos as MP4 files to your PC.
You should be able to insert that video into Legacy, but I can't help with
that stage as I'm new to Legacy myself.
The program is called  YTD Video Downloader and I'm it didn't cost my anything
for the basic version.  Works perfectly.

I know how to add pictures, documents and websites with the Media Center.
But for the life of me, I cannot get videos or sound to work.  I have music on
my computer, but I cannot get it to work with the "Play Sound" for a slide
show.  I also have a couple of movies and videos that I've made, but cannot get
them to work either.  And along the same line,  I found a historical movie clip
on YouTube which shows my father's occupation which is now an obsolete job. Do
I add it to the media center it as a website; or can it be downloaded to the
computer and then linked as a video?  I don't find a download button, but I
have set up playlists and have it on that so that I can easily find it again. I
need the baby step version please for linking sound and video.  The Help
section just doesn't help me at all.  Thanks so much.

I enter addresses as a "Residence" event under marriage information for
couples. You may have to create the residence event.    Regards Laurence Ernest

As you will guess, I’m fairly new to Legacy but managing fairly well.   I
would like to record where married couples and individuals lived at different
times.   Where should I record this information to that it related to both
spouses and appears in reports?   Thanks   John
