No all you do is click Dictionaries, choose the word you approved
erroneously and delete the word.
Close the dictionary and if you want to then run spell checker again.

Henry
p.s. You can even "add" words to the dictionary.

Thanks for that. It shows what I discovered how to do, but - and it's a big
BUT! - you need to have the Spell Checker find a word it doesn't recognize
in order to be able to get to that "editing" screen.

It is fairly easy to edit a dictionary. I had added a link to a small video

Open any "note" to get to the spell checker and just follow the black mouse

Margaret didn't say she couldn't find the Help topic, she said she wasn't
able to do what it said.

When I looked at it, I had the same problem. I don't think the instructions

needs the Spell Checker to have stopped at a word it doesn't recognize,
otherwise you just get a notification that the Spell Check is complete.

When the Check Spelling window comes up, try pressing F1 or clicking on th Help
button. Plenty of information in the Help about how to configure and use the
Spell Checker. All dictionaries are kept in the Dictionaries subfolder within
the Legacy storage structure. The files have an extension of TLX or CLX and have
names that indicate the language. For example, userdic-us.tlx is, as you might
expect, the US spellings dictionary.

Apparently, Legacy uses the Sentry Spelling Checker Engine for Windows from
Wintertree Software. In their support pages, I came across a description of a
problem in the Spell Checking Applet which seems to be very like what you
initially described happening. Basically, the Applet can report every word as a
misspelling, and no words appear in the suggestion list. A very common cause of
this problem is Spell Check Applet being unable to open its dictionaries. The
applet uses its dictionaries to determine which words are spelled correctly. If
the applet is unable to open all of its dictionaries, all words will be reported
as misspelled. If the applet is unable to open one or more of its dictionary
files, then some valid words may be reported as misspelled.

I wonder if you've 'lost' your dictionaries?

2010-04-30 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I have found that a new given word, needs to be added into Legacy, but also
added into WORD, EXCEL, and sometimes to a second document in them, which hints
they use different dictionaries. On those two words, (a guess) since 'born' may
have been left out of the dictionary because it is not normal in business
letters, and York in America is usually preceeded by 'New'. This doesn't
matter, I just add them and wonder why they were missing.

 Rich,

What is happening is that about 95% of the time, spell
check works fine.  On occasion, it will not recognize
simple English words such as born, York (as in New York)
 and many other common words.

I suspect that it uses the Microsoft dictionary but have
not witnessed this problem in any application except Legacy
 (last two builds).

RE: [LegacyUG] Spell Check

2010-04-30 Thread leo macdonald

Hi Bobby,

I have noticed this happening to me before, it usually happens when you leave
the program open and left unused for quite a while. It will not recognize
everyday common words that are already in the spell check dictionary. It does
not happen if you close your program down and then restart Legacy.

I am having a problem with spell check. This is an intermittent problem that
 occurs when checking the text/comments
in source detail. At least that is the only place I have noticed this
problem. The spell checker will sometimes not
recognize words such as born and York and many other common words. It works
 properly most of the time.

What dictionary does spell check use? Is this a Legacy problem?
