The issue is back this morning. After some clicking around, found it is somehow related to the Options-LO-Java-JRE enabled. If I disable it, after restart the issue seems to goes away. I have the following JREs installed: 1.6.0_31 [Java\JRE6] 1.7.0_02 [Java\jdk1.7.0_02\jre] 1.7.0_02 [Java\JRE7] I tried each of them (doing a restart of LO each time) but the issue happens with any. If I choose Internet-MediaWiki, a dialog invites me to enable JRE. If I do so, the Proxy and Browser Plug-in options do not crash, but until the next restart of LO when they crash again. Also noted the fields of Internet-Proxy get populated with gibberish (looks like broken encoding [ヤOᆳpタOᆳp]. Also mind my LO is EN-US but with BG locale). Anything I could do to help reproduce this? I picked this up from reported Bug 42079 see below: Borut Cadez stated: I can confirm Nonprinting characters are not shown in OSX version of Writer 3.5.1.2 and seems that they are not working. Security Open file read-only. Then OK. (5) Save document. Dialog Save as is opened. Choose directory and file name. Then Save. The file is saved. (6) Here I have a difference with the previous report: once I've clicked Save, the File Properties... dialog is shown again without the checked Open file read-only. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48654 --- Comment #1 from Peng Wang pen...@gmail.com 2012-04-14 14:32:39 PDT --- (In reply to comment #0) It was indicated that this bug was fixed in Libreoffice 3.5 release note: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Non_printable.png But it works only when the text is in align left style. Under any circumstances it is inconsistent when spaces in the text are not shown. Because when the text flow changes those spaces will be shown again in the middle of line unexpectedly and disrupt quality and layout of the document. I want to add that I understand the spaces at the end of line shouldn't be visible in print out. MS office's solution is to put those spaces beyond the text/page margin. Libreoffice should come up with a similar or better solution. The current behaviour is also anti-intuitive. Imagine that I type a word near the end of line, then I type a space but suddenly the cursor doesn't move. --- For a new comer he will - intuitively try to type space again but cursor still not move. Well in his first impression that the software is buggy. --- For me I have to tell myself - the last space I typed is really there and I didn't typed it multiple times and keep typing next word which will appear next line. I think that if this problem can be fixed, the office suite will feel much more polished. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I am not sure, but I think there is a little misunderstanding. In step (2) I resetted (= unchecked) the option Load/Save General Edit document properties before saving, because I usually check this option. In this case the properties dialog does not open again at step (6) and hence there is no possibility to check the Open file read-only mode again.
