[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 65704] New: UI: Sound and media panel UI stays forever in Writer, and is slow to open sounds
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65704 Priority: medium Bug ID: 65704 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: UI: Sound and media panel UI stays forever in Writer, and is slow to open sounds Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux (All) Reporter: yohann.m...@gmail.com Hardware: Other Whiteboard: BSA Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.1.0.0.beta1 Component: Writer Product: LibreOffice Problem description: Using the gallery, when chosing a sound to include in an odt document, a new panel appears (with a Open file, play button, media length bar, and so on). It seems to make libreoffice EXTREMELY SLOW and it takes about 10 seconds to have a 1-second sound played on a thinkpad t420s with Intel Core i7 4GB Ram. Even to repeatdly play the same sound once Moreover, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET RID OF the newly appeared panel to give an interface to play sound Now, I always have this panel in my UI in LibreOffice Writer whatever I do. I tried to hide every UI component, this one stays there. Trying to reopen Writer has no effect, i'm going to uninstall and reinstall. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open the media gallery via the button in the UI 2. Select some sounds, play with it, try to include it in a document, delete it 3. play with Current behavior: When I close the gallery, the panel for opening movies and sound stays open. No button or no option menu can hide it. It stays now forever, even for new documents, using a significant part of my LibreOffice Writer window. Expected behavior: Having a close button or have an entry in the toolbars menu view to close it. + Not being so slow Operating System: Fedora Version: 4.1.0.0.beta1 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52433] MEMORY LEAK: particular .odt leading to CRASH after several 'save as'
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52433 --- Comment #24 from mic...@nallino.net --- (In reply to comment #23) Thanks for the replies, I'll try that, but that's just half of the problem. The other half is that the memory comspumtion skyrockets on saving files with lot of images, is there a workaround for this? or is this another bug? Hello, Unfortunately there are two distinct problems: - OpenOffice up to 3.4.1 or LibreOffice up to 3.4.6 have a very bad management of images: you may copy / paste them in Writer, or just add an html link, but in all cases, when you save your file, the RAM used by the process soffice reaches very high values (I have a file with 127 images and, when I save it, the RAM used by soffice reaches some 1.4GB!). - LibreOffice, all 3.5.x, 3.6.x, 4.0.x versions, has another problem: one part of the amount of the RAM is not released after having saved; next time, RAM will increase from an higher bottom value and will reach an higher maximum value, and some part will not be released, and so on; after a few saves, Writer will crash. There is no workaround for the 1st problem (high RAM consumption), you just need to have a lot of RAM in your computer to avoid an extensive use of page swapping (that slows down your computer). I have used OpenOffice and LibreOffice on computers having just 1GB RAM, I have just to say that you have time to do plenty of things when Writer is in save mode. (Now my computer has 16GB of RAM, and it is no longer a problem!) For the memory leak, workarounds are to use OpenOffice 3.4.1, or LibreOffice 3.4.6, or, if you still want / need to use more recent versions of LibreOffice to free the RAM periodically by shutting down LibreOffice or by using an external memory management program. I still don't know when / if this bug will be corrected in LibreOffice, and I just hope that the bug will not appear in the next announced release of OpenOffice, the 4.0 (it might be there, if it is a library related bug, with a new release using an updated set of libraries). In that case, I would stay with OpenOffice 3.4.1 or even switch to MS Office 2013 ;-)! Of course, I would be very glad to use a reliable version of LibreOffice 3.6.x or 4.0.x, since it offers lots of functions, but, at this time, I can't. Best regards, M. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49708] EDITING FILESAVE Setting primary key was silently ignored
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49708 Mike A. Fargo mika...@gmx.de changed: What|Removed |Added Hardware|All |x86-64 (AMD64) OS|All |FreeBSD Version|3.5.2 release |4.0.2.2 release --- Comment #8 from Mike A. Fargo mika...@gmx.de --- This bug is still there in Version 4.0.2.2 (Build ID: 4c82dcdd6efcd48b1d8bba66bfe1989deee49c3 I can confirm this: I copy (^C) a table from Calc (including field names). I paste the clipboard as new table. There is no option to choose an existing field as primary key. The only workaround is to allow the assistent creating an generic ID field as primary key, then edit the database layout, change primary key to wanted field. Save, close, reopen, then delete the generic ID field created by the wizzard. The suggested option to choose the primary key afterwards, seems to work when you enter the design mode (key icon is displayed in the right place), saving and closing gives no error message. But if you try to edit or add any values, you end up with a seemingly write protected table, and most people would never find out, that the yet missing primary key is the reason for this. Suggestion: Please, extend the import GUI to allow selecting one of your imported fields to be the primary key. Please, double check after defining primary key and saving, if this change could actually be commited. So, this time: now I get the bt/c thing. ;) I got my new document created, typed in a bit of text, and tried to save to the Windows share drive. I could navigate to it just fine, typed in a filename at the prompt, clicked save -- and then the thing hung. (Spinner, spinning) Unfortunately, though I had a (gdb) prompt in the terminal, it was the empty rectangle cursor, and it would not accept input. I waited ... then killed it. The attachment in comment #30 is (I think, I hope), the last two backtraces before killing it. It seems we're at the crucial point: felt very stymied that I couldn't get past that hang. I paste the clipboard as new table. There is no option to choose an existing field as primary key. In my LO-Version I have the option in the wizard. I have to choose the field, when the wizard will format the field. Click the right button of the mouse over the field. The wizard could be designed better in this position, but that isn't the reported bug. It is reported in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49554 One comment to the Version and the Platform: It has to be the first version the bug appears. I can test it with LO 3.3.4 - the bug exists. Think the bug exists the whole time in LO. If you change the version it means: This is the first version, have a look what has been change from the version before and you will get the wrong code. Also this bug isn't a bug of only FreeBSD or only 64-bit-systems. I will change the settings again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48153] deb archives should use lzma compression
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48153 --- Comment #11 from Fridrich Strba fridrich.st...@bluewin.ch --- This change in the payload might save few MB of space, it is true. OTOH, it would exclude some older distros that people still run on their machines (this is the target of the upstream packages mainly). If you need lean and mean packages, there are the ones produced by debian maintainer himself that use all possible system libraries and might as well use the payload that gives the best compression. For upstream binaries, we chose the non-exclusiveness that bz2 payload gives. I really don't want to go into long discussions in bugzilla about whether this is a good choice or not. Instead of wasting time in that, I will rather code some more. OTOH, if you want to provide custom builds with maximum compression possible, it is always possible since LibreOffice is a free software and the sources are accessible for each release. The git tags are also public. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
