Copying comments from markus from gerrit #26079

Using default values is not a good idea. We try to be explicit with all default
values to avoid issues with wrong default values.
Some versions of LibO and Excel have the wrong default value handling.

Sorry, that is by design and implemented for bug 92630

Those are not "shortcuts" those are "accelerators", refactoring was done to
make their behavior compliant with GTK3 and only show the "localized" nemonic
for the "accelerators" when the key is pressed.

Assigning an actual shortcut is not appropriate.

Resolving duplicate of bug 99326, the final form there is still evolving as
some prefer LibreOffice provide ability to optionally override the use of
key and accelerator behavior.

Could be, however the article represents a developer's opinion rather than a
design choice IMHO. Furthermore, it is dated back to 2004. Fast forward 12
years and even core Windows applications (and everything else from the looks of
it) use Ctrl+LeftAlt+E to generate Euro. (Again) like LibO 4.x did. And 5.x
doesn't.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80941] LibreOffice should be installable from a GUI

2016-06-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon

I'm an advanced enough user to mess with dpkg and install gdebi-core in hopes
of solving the dependency hell, but I'm still stuck with a borked installation.
Details at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100284

Point is, please think of users who just don't have the time or knowledge to
mess with command-line installations, and provide either an easy install script
in the .deb archive, or a graphical installer.

I have some knowledge, definitely not the time, and want the 5.2.0 version
because it solves a compatibility problem with wildcards
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.2#Support_wildcards_to_be_compatible_with_XLS.2FXLSX_and_with_ODF_1.2).
I've wasted over two hours by now trying to get 5.2 to run.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 100284] New: Installation instructions fr 5.2.0 are wrong ( Ubuntu 16.04)

2016-06-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100284

Bug ID: 100284
Summary: Installation instructions fr 5.2.0 are wrong (Ubuntu
16.04)
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Documentation
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ddascalescu+freedesk...@gmail.com

The Graphical Installation instructions at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Install/Linux#Graphic_Installation_.28Preferred_Way.29
no longer work as of Ubuntu 16.04.

Selecting all .deb files and opening them in Software Center doesn't do
anything but opening the packages repeatedly in USC, with only the last one
visible. Worse, clicking "Install" fails - see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1590640

`sudo dpkg -i *.deb` doesn't work either, because dpkg doesn't install
dependencies, so that part of the installation instructions is wrong too.

As instructed at
http://askubuntu.com/questions/40011/how-to-let-dpkg-i-install-dependencies-for-me/,
I ran `sudo apt-get install -f` and `sudo dpkg -i *.deb`, and that did install
dependencies, but running any of the shortcuts fails silently.

>From the command line, I get this:

$ libreofficedev5.2 --calc
/opt/libreofficedev5.2/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared
libraries: libmergedlo.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory

I've installed gdebi-core, then ran `gdebi *.deb`. That failed with `Dependency
is not satisfiable: lodevbasis5.2-core (>= 5.2.0.0.beta1)`.

Can the .deb TGZ have an install script, like the .rpm version?

The problem has also been reported at
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/71044/lo-52-beta-wont-install-on-linux-x64/

Turn off protect index and manually set the numbers to super/subscript only
apply for final work. Every time that I update the list of figures I loose the

Is strange that work for chapter index right but not for figures and tables.

Why the LO developers not used similar procedure for figure and tables that are
used for chapter index?

OK for step by step info.
it's similar to here
http://dominoc925.blogspot.jp/2013/05/import-csv-file-into-libreoffice-base.html

0) export twitter block list from twitter>settings>blocked etc
this csv has one field, id number only.

1) make new odb, Connect to an existing database Text

2) select CSV path, and check *.csv, and Finish

3) save any name odb. (odb1)
this odb has csv file name talbes, and field type is DECIMAL. no error

4) open another odb, "Create a new database". (odb2)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 97269] Linux portable edition

2016-06-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97269

I don't see the need for a linux portable version, as you can always just
extract the rpms using e.g.

for i in *.rpm; do rpm2cpio $i |cpio -idmv; done

and then launh LO from the opt/program/libreoffice dir - if you really want to
leave no traces, you pass another env:UserInstallation parameter or edit
bootstrap.rc in the extracted hierarchy.

so portable version is easy to accomplish - extract, modify the bootstrap.rc re
userprofile and you're done.

flatpak goes a similar route, by isolating the app agains other stuff, but is
not really what I'd call portable...

Some XLSX documents created by LO are much larger than created by Excel.

The root cause of problem is that Excel is using default values more widely.
Example of styles for Excel:

The same style created by LibreOffice:

To resolve that issue I would propose to use default values for storing values.

Hi Folks,
This is probably operator error, but i cannot find what I have done to cause
the problem.

I have had an Alphabetical Index in my document for a while. Recently, when I
add text then add index entries, when I 'Update' the Alphabetical Index, my
Table of contents is copied to the location (Index is gone).

I do not know if this is related, but I have noticed the Index Entry box is
larger and I cannot adjust the size.

Kind Regards

Here's an example of what "out of date" means. The URL I added,
https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Styles_and_Formatting, shows icons that do
not match what I see in version 5.1.2.2.

As a newcomer to the advanced features of LibreOffice, I find this confusing
and off-putting? If the icons are wrong, what else is? Does documentation for
version 5 exist? I find no indication that it does.

If it did, would you mind attaching this log file:

Also, did the bug happen with an empty document/any document, or only in

While the workaround seems to have fixed the issue, others might be having the

Yeah, I know. I have seen Probono promotes AppImage in places where there is
talk of Flatpak ...

However, I think AppImage and Flatpak are very different approaches and
technologies that are not competing with each other.

LibreOffice already offers a "portable" way through a scrip installation which
makes things easier, however, LO Developers want to offer another portable
alternative?

If the answer is positive, AppImage would be a good generic Linux package to
replacement *.rpm and *.deb packages currently offered by TDF (each
distribution maintainers offer it anyway). Promote the use AppImage in software
stores help greatly improve the user experience when installing this type of
package for the end user, but anyway, it is more easier to use the installation
script currently offered in LibreOffice.

A distribution system for Linux users using: source code (basic) + Generic
AppImage (Portable) + Flatpak (Advanced and Cool) is simple and always keep the
software updated by TDF.

2016-06-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100281

Bug ID: 100281
Summary: Frequent freeze upon saving of a large writer file
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: d...@hotmail.com

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0)
like Gecko
Build Identifier: LibreOffice 5.1.3.2

Frequently, when I hit save button or press Ctrl+S, I get the progress bar in
the bottom of the screen, which progresses well until 100%, but then
application freezes and I have to kill the task.
Memory wyse, used memory for soffice.bin process remains about 250 Mb during
the progress of the progress bar, and goes up quickly at the end of the
process, until about 900 Mb, and then it freezes. That is so frequent that I
have to save almost at each modification, if I do not want to loose minutes of
typing again and again.
For that reason, I'm reluctant to advise this product to those of my customers
in search of alternative solutions for their office applications.
Kindly.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a writer file
2. Give it a minimal skeleton, add a table of contents, and a dozen of math
equations
3. Hit save button
4. Progress bar shows up and goes up to 100%
5. soffice.bin process goes up to 900 Mb and then freezes
Actual Results:
Had to kill soffice.bin process.
Recovery of file occurs at next opening of the document
At the end of the process, the file does not get corrupted, but I lost
modifications that were supposed to be saved

Expected Results:
A save function which does not freeze the application and which actually saves
documents

Such feature is not implemented, so it would be an enhancement request. This
problem is essentially the same as bug 85797 and bug 59758.

The svg format works different in principle, as it applies transformations on
the whole content. For example fat lines are slanted in SVG too. Draw applies
transformations only on the position and size information.

There exists a feature for Charts to bind or not to bind the font size to
transformations, or a feature to auto-shrink font size in presentation objects
in Impress. So it is not impossible, but would be a new feature.

Currently the correct workaround is to export your drawing to svg. If you get
"a too wide frame", then you have likely forgotten to check the option
"Selection" in the export dialog.

I let the Status on unconfirmed, because Heiko is currently consolidating and
sorting all the Draw issues. He should decide, what to do with this issue.

Yes, unless Debian reconsiders not to include the Quickstarter in the "core"

Quickstarter option strictly assuming -gtk while building with

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today or with Debian package
5.1.3, I don't reproduce this.

On which env are you?
Could you give a try to last stable LO version (5.1.3)?

Please give a try to last stable LO version (5.1.3) and explain a bit more the
problem.

I appreciated the good joke "A régler rapidement svp, j'ai un exposé mardi" :-)

No shortcuts are visible for the buttons

1. Edit a document and make a change
2. Close the document (Ctrl+F4)

Calc/Writer et al. will open a dialog titled "Save Document", with three
buttons: "Don't save", "Cancel" and "Save".

For consistency with other applications, 'N' should be the accelerator for
"Don't save". Right now the shortcut for that is an awkward Alt+D, which isn't
discoverable until the user presses Alt.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 100277] New: correctly resize ODG graphics, if embedded in Writer ( ODT)

2016-06-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100277

Bug ID: 100277
Summary: correctly resize ODG graphics, if embedded in Writer
(ODT)
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.1.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kolafl...@kolahilft.de

Created attachment 125556
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=125556=edit
example ODT file

In Writer/ODT for embedded ODG graphics:
Please add the possibility to resize the fonts of an ODG graphic with the rest
of the graphic.

If importing an ODG graphic into an Writer/ODT document, it often happens that
one need to resize the graphic a little. But currently the fonts in that ODG
graphic don't resize with the rest but stay in their native fontsize.

Please add a way to (optionally) resize an imported ODG graphic including it's
fonts.
This maybe also might be a nice feature in Draw itself, when resizing a
graphic.

Another point is, that the line widths also don't resize with the rest of the
graphic. Have a look at the attached ODT file.

Currently the only practical way is to export to SVG, cut the too wide frames
of the SVG using Inkscape and import the SVG into Writer. Then the fonts in the
graphic will resize with the rest of the graphic.

System configuration:
openSUSE 13.2 Linux, 64 bit, german

Tested with:

LibreOffice 5.1.3.2
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/LibreOffice:/5.1/openSUSE_13.2/

Inkscape 0.48

I am referring to the left Alt key here. In versions up to and including 4.x
produced (together with Ctrl and E) the Euro symbol, when the keyboard was set
to Greek. This behaviour is consistent with other Windows applications too. I
do not know, why extensions manager now "grabs" the Ctrl-LeftAlt-E combo...

Ctrl-AltGr-E does produce the Euro symbol for us in LibO. In fact, you only
have to press AltGr-E to produce it too, ctrl is not needed?

No, nothing wrong append after the backport fix. But like i say on comment #72,
to build LO 5-0 or 5-1, some other backport are needed.

Despite this, the fix is great !

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 100172] Various Graphical Errors In Comment Display or Edit Dialogs

2016-06-08 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100172

Originally I started raising this bug report because I was UNABLE to enter a
comment in a cell that was part of a frozen pane because no comment entry
dialog appeared when I selected "Insert Comment" as an option.

Having experimented during the course of raising the bug, I found that I was
then able to see a comment entry dialog, probably because of experimenting with
comments in other cells that were not part of a frozen pane. This left me in a
tricky situation, in that the problem that I wanted to report, was no longer a
problem - I wondered whether I had just missed the comment entry dialog
somehow!

I decided to go ahead and report some of the graphical redrawing problems
relating to comments. They all seemed to be similar issues to me, so I thought
one bug report was sufficient.

Later on the original problem came back again, so I mentioned it as a bit of an
addendum to the other points I'd listed. Sorry for the confusion.

I captured screen images using GIMP. I later discovered that manually captured
screenshots could be found in my recent items folder on Linux, but I'd already
attached all the images I'd captured through GIMP at that point.

testcase files to reproduce behavior with localc

NOTE: ignore the previous attachment

I can reproduce this bug in libreoffice 5.1.3-2 (debian stretch/sid).

To reproduce, i try open a csv file (separated by tabs instead of commas) with
a bad file extension (in my case, the file extension is generated by a program
with the ods extension, but i change it to xxx here to avoid confusion) using
localc.

I attach some files created by hand while try to understand the cause of the
bug.

The conclusion from the files: if the file has non-ascii characters (ñ)
separated by a dos newline (\r\n) it open the file using writer. In the other
combinations the calc csv import dialog is shown.

Hi,

LibreOffice crashes when I follow these steps:

* Create a .odt file
* Add a data source : Edit > Exchange Database
* Browse a .ods file and define a sheet as database
* Insert a variable from this database : F4 > drag & drop a column's first row
* Insert a table of contents with Heading in its additional styles
* Insert a heading 1
* Insert a second heading 1
* Update the table
* Print the document as a form letter : Ctrl + P > Yes
* Output : file
* Save as .pdf
* See LO crash

LO does not crash when there is one heading only.

This bug does not appear with LO 4.4.7.2.

@Gareth :

So far, I see no definable bug in any of the comments here, just usage issues
and bugzilla is not the place for those. Those kind of questions belong on the
user mailing list or the Ask libreoffice forum.

It would also be helpful if the problems, such as they are reported and
verified, could be limited to one problem per report instead of amalgamating a
series of problems into a flow, which makes it impossible to triage this report
correctly.

Please identify clearly only one single behaviour that you consider buggy, with
steps to reproduce, and submit separate reports for the other issues that you
consider to be bugs.

As Robert has indicated, primary keys are a necessity for every table for which
you wish to carry out update or insert operations. This is actually indicated
in the built-in help (and the online help), but probably not in the most
obvious of ways.

I am going to close this bug, as adding a sub-form manually remains possible
providing your tables are set up properly beforehand as Robert has
demonstrated.

If you feel that there is a particular issue which is still problematic, please
open a new report and specify just that one issue there.

Hi Julien, my first failure in dbgutil enabled build is with libreportlo.dylib
in a cppunit test. As I can't get past that one without switching off the
checks, I don't know if others would follow.

FWIW, I'm not building on a retina capable Mac either, I'm using a Mac mini
(server) that is now 5 years old.

kartis: Please provide some more information.

What do you mean when you say "attached by text in ODB" ?

Please give detailed step by step instructions, or else a sample ODB file and
instructions so that we can test.

At present, I don't understand :

1) if the error you are seeing occurs only when you bind/import the CSV data to
your first ODB file, or

2) whether it occurs only when you try and copy/paste table from your first ODB
file to a second ODB that has no corresponding table ; or

3) whether it occurs when you try to append table from ODB1 to an existing
table in ODB2

The footnote height could be set manually and with custom height.
Both are limited in theory by page height, but in practice there is some magic
number which limit footnote height

I found that most of the UI is implemented there:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/sw/source/ui/misc/pgfnote.cxx#n35
5
There is nothing about maximum value, except:
 lMaxHeight *= 8;
 lMaxHeight /= 10;
 // set maximum values
 HeightModify(*m_pMaxHeightEdit);

Unfortunately it is only changes maximum UI values which could be set via
Format->Page...->Footnote...->Maximum footnote height.
It it not changing a maximum height of footnote at all.

I suspect that real limitation is implemented somewhere in:
  SwSaveFootnoteHeight
  SwTextFrame::ConnectFootnote

> ...Move the liked object to a shared folder (e.g. a network folder) and use an
> absolute path to the file on the shared folder.
This has nothing to do with my bugreport.

> This has nothing to do with LibreOffice and Linux...
It has. As I already mentioned above the bug does not occurs on MS Windows. I
tested it with OpenOffice 4.1 and LibreOffice 5.1 on Windows 7.

> ...That works the same way on Linux, OS X, and Windows
On Linux it is more difficult to resolve the paths, however it is possible:
1) retrieve the absolute path of the opened document (“ls -ali”, "readlink -m
", "realpath()", or boost: "path absolute()", "path canonical()"..)
2) from there resolve the relative paths inside the document

> ...and moreover on any other application which can create and kind of
> links (e.g. HTML pages)
I tested the scenario with HTML files. At least Firefox is able to do the job,
even on Linux.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100184

Unfortunately that commit did not seem to fix the problem. In 5.2, for which I
happen to have a fresh build with the above commit, I still get a exception
when exiting, that gets handled by the VCLExceptionSignal_impl(). A
SAL_DEBUG_TRACE() there produces this backtrace which sadly doesn't seem very
useful:

debug:7936:6912: > VCLExceptionSignal_impl at:
8: osl_backtraceAsString - 0x6e24f710
7: `anonymous namespace'::log - 0x6e21d1f0

2: UnhandledExceptionFilter - 0x7689f320
1: LdrSetAppCompatDllRedirectionCallback - 0x76fabb00
0: RtlUnicodeStringToInteger - 0x76f85b90

and the VCLExceptionSignal_impl() then calls OpenGLZone::hardDisable().

If I instead attach soffice.bin to VS, and exit LO, VS catches an unhandled
exception 0xC005: Access violation reading location 0xDDE5. Its
backtrace:
