Afterthought:
Interestingly, Excel 2013 quite happily accepts my Calc xls save - when I
unmerge the cells, the first option  (No) returns it the way it was before I
merged.

Of course, in the case of the Yes option, the 2nd and 3rd cells are empty as
expected.

Buovjaga: yes, I go the same results. So this is an education issue.

Problem: MS is the dominant player and thus many will have used Excel first
before coming to Calc. Excel 2013 offers a number of options in the merge, but
all of them convert the contents to text.

What to do?

The text in Calc says: "Should the contents of the hidden cells be moved to the
first cell?"

Here are some options:
"Should the contents of the hidden cells be moved to the first cell and
converted to text?"
or 
"Should the contents of the hidden cells be moved to the first cell?
Yes: convert to text
No: selected cell determines what to display in merged view"

You say 5.3 adopts the MS approach. I think there is a case to be made to keep
the up-to-Calc 5.2 approach.

The reason: have a look at the new example. If I have a formula which includes
too much text to display in a cell I can simply merge cells which I don't need
to display. This is a far more elegant solution that what is offered by Excel
2013 (which I have shown in the shaded text box.)

In Excel, the contents of the merged merged cells is lost.

We work on a monthly report which use sheet to separate each month report.
On each sheet we would have around 3 - 5 A4 page length.

When exporting to PDF, it will generate all sheet in one PDF instead of just
the sheet selected ( active ).

While we can split the PDF later by using other software, it's combine all the
footer page numbering.

Example :
Sheet 1 call "Jan 2016" have four page
Sheet 2 call "Feb 2016" have three page

Now the footer will shown as page 1 of 7, instead of page 1 of 4

It should take account of "Print only selected sheet" options

it's not possible use the semicolon in that way, because as such you are not
doing a valid range. Semicolon it is used to separate parameters, function like
SUM() accepts several ranges as parameters, but there is a limit of 30.

To join ranges the character to use is the tilde ~

eg:
$Sheet1.$A$1:$A$6~$Sheet1.$C$1:$C$6

You need to verify that it works properly with your formulas, it works fine
with SUM($Sheet1.$A$1:$A$6~$Sheet1.$C$1:$C$6)
but eg not with
SUMPRODUCT($Sheet1.$A$1:$A$6~$Sheet1.$C$1:$C$6).

Currency dropdown with Danish UI in 5.2.0.4

Adolfo, I checked in 5.2.0.3 and 5.2.0.4, yes, it's OpenGL only, and fixed in
5.2.0.4.

However, there are other currencies in the list that still look incorrect in
5.2.0.4 (like BDT Bengali above, and BHD Arabian below BEF), so I'd keep this
report open, unless an existing bug report is found.

File with a not closed line as custom shape

Open attached file. It contains a custom-shape with a line.
Select the shape and go to the line properties in the side bar.
Notice, that you can change the kind of the stroke, but that the two drop-down
lists are disabled.

Now open the context menu of the shape and select item 'Line'. Set the
line-ends in that dialog. Notice that the line on the shape gets the selected
line-ends. Save and reopen the file to make sure, that the property is
correctly saved to file.

It doesn't seem that tough, but what do I know.

How about a -NocsvDialog option. If something screws up, then put up a warning
and/or the 'Text Import' dialog.

How about a properties dialog for images that allows to enter name,
description, caption (if available), and positon & size? I would also include
the line properties and image options (brightness, contrast etc.).
Otherwise consistency first so both belong to the format menu.

The need to Name, or to provide a Description (Title--for Alternative text--and
a Description) is a requirement not just for Images, but for all objects. It is
a UI issue as the Name/Title controls their behavior on Navigator.

And from a UX perspective the time to set an attribute is while the object is
being created or placed. Frankly that is most efficient from the context menu.
Removing them was fine--having added ability to customize context menus (as
we've been doing for toolbars forever) allows us to pick and choose reasonable
defaults, and then for users to adjust as they prefer.

I do agree that adding the attributes to the properties dialog for each object
would be helpful. In addition to the Name field that is is there already.

Yes, behavior of the Name dialog and Description dialogs launched from
menus--or from context menus--needs to be handled in a more consistent
interface across modules.

You are right @Luke, I have had a confusion because after paste, if you don't
move the selection looks as if only the first cell of the merged range was
pasted.

So not a regression for copy with keyboard but confirmed an inherited issue for
drag.

- Not possible to drag a merged range on less than five*(number of merged cells
less one) rows
- Merge it's not copied.

If there a values on the hidden cells of the merged range:
- Only the first cell of the merged range is pasted.
with keyboard or dragging.

Most users dont modify the default configuration, especially users like
Benjamin, which means that only users like Eve would be doing so. This

UI, but want an easy automated means to do so.

The cursor movement uses Grapheme Clusters
(http://unicode.org/reports/tr29/#Grapheme_Cluster_Boundaries) as a unit, a
base character plus a combining mark are considered one grapheme cluster so
moving the cursor forward will skip the whole cluster.

I can’t confirm the MS Office behavior, but treating the mark as a different
unit here can be visually confusing since there will be no indication that the
cursor has moved at all (since the mark has zero advance width), so it is a big
change to do.

I’m not sure I understand the screen reader issue clearly, are you saying that
the reader does not read the marks because the cursor skips them? I have no
experience with screen readers, unfortunately, so I don’t understand why
reading the marks would be tied to cursor movement?

Name, title and description are attributes/properties of the image and the
format menu focusing on altering those properties.

Unfortunately it wouldnt be included back in the context menu as we are keeping
the context menus short. Name is available through the context menu with the
image properties entry on the options tab. It would be useful for title and
description to also be in the dialog.

You are incorrect as openoffice had and still has it in Format > Object >
Description and it was moved to Format > Description in libreoffice 5.1.

Yes most of the context menu alterations happened in writer and impress/draw,
so calc hasnt had the clean up as yet.

Could repro in 5.1.4, if I answered "Yes" to the question of whether to move
content of empty cells.
In 5.3 it did not ask and there was no problem.
With your document, I merged and centered C5-E5.

As the original reporter of Bug 101212, I concur with cson...@halmai.hu : both
bugs are related (they concern the same component), but not exactly duplicates:
- Bug 56468 originally was about being able to choose the rescaling algorithm.
- Bug 101212 is more about the "metrics" of re-scaling.
(Especially present when cropped images are re-scaled)

However, it makes sense to group them if the component is re-written,
especially in the light of some comments here that I found here:

This is not only true with cropped images - calculation of DPI of re-sampled
images is often incorrect (see 101212). Re-sampling cropped images come with
the additional problem that the cropped boundaries are often not properly
scaled.

Indeed, the dialog box should "remember" (could also be settable with LO
preferences) the chosen settings for re-sampling: algorithm, but also image
quality (DPI and jPEG quality setting), as these are often chosen same for a
given document, depending on its use.

This could be considered RFE, but it bugs me:
I use a number a spreadsheets with good success using named expressions.
Recently, I needed a combined named expression, but that doesn't work. I can't
mark two arrays, and if I enter them manually, separated by a semicolon, and
click 'Add', it doesn't accept the input. This is not quite consistent with
other potential inputs (e.g. SUM).

I haven't found a nice work-around yet. I use a range of labels that I read and
transfer to another sheet into various locations (so I can't use a simple
array) and defining those ranges per file has helped me pretty much until here.

Per our HIG--all controls should be provided via menu actions.

Through 5.2 the Menu rework has the Description object dialog for "Description
& Title" and the Name object dialog for "Name" positioned:

for Writer on the Format menu,
for Impress on the Format menu,
for Draw on the Modify menu, and
for Calc it is not provided on menu, either Format or Format -> Object. 

For Calc it remains only on the Context menu for the object (where the control
had been for the other modules (except Draw's Modify menu). Handling in Calc
will need to be corrected.

And except for Calc, the context menu entry for both has been removed.
Otherwise from 5.2 the addition of context menu customization allows user to
add it Image or Object.

So more work needed to handle some of the UI inconsistencies of these dialogs.

Only question here becomes should the Name and Description actions be present
on context menu by default.

Aside from preparing tagged content for a11y use, given our desire to improve
Navigator function--facilitating Name, Title and Description for each object by
providing context menu access seems desirable in the general case.

Not sure there is any advantage to adding context menu entries back for a 5.1.6
release--but it should be benign if done this late in the branch.

I suggest to provide this feature as an open list since users may want to add
own configurations beyond the four factory settings. For example, Benjamin
wants to switch from a configuration "homework" that focuses on writing text to
"playground" which offers more graphical tools. Or Eve and Benjamin share the
same account but want to have different UI layouts.

The problem is that already the first document attached to this bug is saved by
Calc with the broken formula expression part. To fix anything we'd need the
original, presumably saved by Excel, document file.

Yes, it is possible to select each frame and manually set it from it's own
properties, but if you have a large document using many of the same style of
frames, then it is much better to use the styles for what they are there for
and not set things manually.

If I read your procedure properly, you did exactly what I said NOT to do.  The
frame *style* must be what is modified and not the frame directly.  Go to the
sidebar, select the frame style & formatting button, and change the frame style
from there.

In order to make people comfortable with switching their UI to a different
arrangement, we need to make the process as simple as changing the document
view.

So we need a radio button set in View > Mode which would have 4 entries in it
for - Default, Single Toolbar, Sidebar, Notebookbar.

Default mode is the standard mode we have now of 2 top toolbars and a partially
open sidebar.

Single toolbar mode hides the 2 top toolbars and various contextual toolbars,
collapses the sidebar so the arrow button can reopen it if the user wants, and
unhides the standard (single mode) toolbar. The list of toolbars to hide are
found in bug 92218 comment 13. Also the icon theme would be changed to sifr
small.

Sidebar mode would hide the formatting toolbar and various contextual toolbars
and leave only the standard toolbar visible, and then fully open the sidebar
(bug 92220).

Notebookbar mode would hide all toolbars and fully close the sidebar.

When jumping from one mode to the next, settings should be maintained so users
can easily jump back to the previous setup without having to adjust the
configurations. The logic behind saving these settings are mentioned in bug
92218 comment 3.

And why would that be? The icon (at least the one in the status bar) has
obviously always been different depending on whether there were changes to be

3. Clicked on the frame and on the Center button in the toolbar "Frame"
4.  and then click inside the frame

6. Saved the document, closed and reopened it
(and this for all three mentioned versions above)

Part 2:
1. Opened it in LO
2. set orientation to "Align left" (for both the frame as well as the text)
3. Opened it again
4. marked the frame
5. rightclicked on it and selected "Object..."
6. changed "Horizontal" from "Left" to "Center" under "Position"
7. closed the dialog
8.  and clicking in the frame to click on the text
9. clicked on "Center horizontally" button in the toolbar "Formatting"
10. Saved the document, closed it and reopened it
(as above for all three mentioned versions)

Part 3:
1. Created a new document in Writer
2. "Insert - Frame" (in Debian's versions, in LO's "Insert - Frame - Frame"
3. Either letting the default values or changing the height and width values to
7cm and 3cm and hitting 
4. Rightclick on the Frame and selected "Object..."
5. Confirmed, that its default value is "Center"
6. Hit 
7.  and clicked in Frame to insert the text "Test"

Probably you solved that already, anyway, are you trying to build the webdav
serf library version (using --with-webdav="serf" in configuring) ?

The webdav version normally compiled in TDF build is the neon one:
--with-webdav="neon".
It lives in ucb/source/ucp/webdav-neon.

This is not a bug. If you want to match the string "Unpaid" then you have to
enter it as string "Unpaid" including the double quotes, or use a cell
reference to a cell that contains the string.

When entered without double quotes the Unpaid is taken as a) a defined name, or
b) if there exists no name like in this case a label looked up in B2, being a
row label in this case with the formula in C1 the implicit intersection at C2
is formed as reference and the value in C2 (in this example 0) is the
criterion. The label ends up in single quotes because that is the canonical
form of a label, in case the string value in B2 is changed the label in the
formula follows that and if it includes whitespace then it has to be enquoted
in single quotes.

In newer releases the "Automatically find column and row labels" option under
Tools -> Options -> Calc -> Calculate is disabled, because it leads to
confusion and maybe unexpected results, so in this example the formula results
in #NAME? error. Only labels within defined label ranges are used per default,
but not looked up from the sheet if not defined.

It is not normative, but in appendix D of the ODF specification you can read:

D.1.2.Authoring tool responsibility for presenting and prompting for the
 and  elements 

Authoring tools should provide an option from an objects context menu to allow
the user to enter the text for either of these elements as a minimum. More
proactive authoring tools should have a facility for prompting the author for
this text. Since the  element is a long description, a text area vs.
a text field should be used to prompt the user accordingly in GUI-based
authoring tools like office applications.


Notice the part "from an objects context menu".

As the context menu cannot be configured in LO5.1, removing these two items
should be reverted in the 5.1 branch.

"Invalid" is not the correct Status. There will be one bug fix release before
'end of life' in the 5.1 branch in November. So a change would be possible.

By the way, this bug needs several things to solve (starting from the user's
perspective):

- changing the dialog to adjust/reflect what rescaling method is used if my 2x2
pixel image stored in the document has to be displayed/printed in 10x10
centimetres
- store the chosen algorithm in the in-memory data structure of LO
- store the chosen algorithm in the ODT file if it gets saved and restore it
from there
- extending the ODT file format specification to be capable to store it in the
file in a standard way
- adding some macro interface to make in able to be manipulated
- everything else I forgot to enumerate above. :)

So, this enhancement can be pretty complicated but I still think - four years
after it came up at first - it should be done.

I am not sure Bug 101212 is the duplicate of this one. That one is about
displaying incorrect values in the Original Size information. This bug is
completely different, this is about configuring what rescaling method to use. 

I can imagine that the developer who solves this bug is able to fix that one as
well but I think these bugs are only related ones, not duplicates of each
other.

Bug 53864 "Export ignores layer options 'printable' and 'visible'" could be
solved by another flag leading to 2^4 combinations, or the export is bind to
one of the existing states. In this case I suggest to use printable.

I also have the same issue after upgraded to 5.1.5.2 via
ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-5-1 on Xubuntu 14.04.

Everything works great in the previous version but now libreoffice is
practically unusable, the rendering is quite slow and the CPU goes to 100% in
the Xorg process.

I tried resetting the user profile but nothing changes. On the other hand, in
my system the OpenGL option is disabled and if I try to enable it, Libreoffice
crash at start.

My Libreoffice data is:

Version: 5.1.5.2
Build ID: 1:5.1.5~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty1
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Linux 3.19; UI Render: default; 
Locale: es-ES (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group

If there is any test I could run to provide more info, please let me know.

Meanwhile I will revert my system to branch 5.0

In the page style it's marked show cero values.

Double click on the status bar the sheet name (Menu/Format/Page), and on the
tab disable "Zero values".

Resolved as not a bug, please if you are not agree, reopen it.

Problem description:
In imported MS Word documents the area protection is bypassed when the option
“Protected Areas: Enable cursor” is not set.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a MS Word document *.doc or *.docx with protected areas
2. Make sure the “Enable cursor” option is not set: Tools → Options →
LibreOffice Writer→ Formatting Aids → Protected Areas: Enable cursor
3. Try to edit the text in the protected area.

Current behavior:
The user is able to edit the text in protected areas.

Expected behavior:
The user should only be able to edit the text in protected areas when the
compatibility option “Form Protect” is not set.

Please open a new report for your problem. You might also take advantage of the
crash reporting functionality of 5.2 (TDF builds only) which will be released

Indeed, the attributes draw:display and draw:protected have never been
implemented. Instead the settings config:name="VisibleLayers" and
config:name="PrintableLayers" and config:name="LockedLayers" are used with
binary data.

I don't agree.  Title & description are content/attribute, not format.  You

Problem description:
In imported MS Word documents the option to disable the cursor in protected
areas does not work: The user is able to click into protected areas even when
the option “Enable cursor” is not set.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a MS Word document *.doc or *.docx with protected areas.
2. Make sure the “Enable cursors” option is not set: Tools → Options →

3. Try to click into the protected area and respectively put the cursor there.

Current behavior:

Analysis:
in function SwCursorShell::HasReadonlySel   IsReadOnlyAvailable() is "false"
but should be "true"
