Hi Luke, what is your version of LibreOffice?

Your screenshot shows that the issue is not the background of the toolbar but
the background of some widgets like area color. I reproduce this behavior with
LO 5.2 under Ubuntu 16.04 x86-64
Note : with GTK2, LO is not able to paint the background of toolbars.

Best regards. JBF

I've been checking in Windows, and it definitely occurs, and not only in 5.3
master build, but all back to 3.3.0.

There's a checkbox right below "Measurement unit": "Enable char unit", that
controls the behavior, if checked, you will see character/line units in
Paragraph dialog.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101897] New: "Related Topics" section not localized

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101897

Bug ID: 101897
Summary: "Related Topics" section not localized
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.2.1.2 rc
  Hardware: All

Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Documentation
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kla...@partyheld.de

The "Related Topics" section in LO help currently isn't localized.

Test procedure:
1. Go to https://help.libreoffice.org/Basic/Rnd_Function_Runtime or
https://help.libreoffice.org/Basic/Libraries,_Modules_and_Dialogs
2. Switch to any other language at the top of the page

Expected results:
2. "Related Topics" at the bottom of the page appears in the respective
language

Actual results:
2. "Related Topics" appears in English

---

Notes:
* It doesn't seem to be possible to localize that section name. I haven't been
able to find it neither in Pootle, nor searching for the string in the entire
help repository. (The section is invoked in many help articles, while its name
seems to be controlled in some place centrally.)

* This is about the "Related Topics" SECTION (),
not a VARIABLE. There are plenty of "Related Topics" variable occurrences, all
of which seem to be localized.

* Section use examples in code:

Didnt add any entries in Calc, as presently we dont have any useful cell
styles, but i could add the current 5 cell styles to the menu. Not possible to
do the same for impress/draw.

True, but that doesnt seem to be the issue of this bug report.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101896] New: Menu submenus for listing various style types

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101896

Bug ID: 101896
Summary: Menu submenus for listing various style types
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: philip...@hotmail.com
CC: libreoffice-ux-adv...@lists.freedesktop.org
Blocks: 86899

So in writer we have listed a few paragraph and character styles in the Styles
menu, but we also need to list all the various style types available in the
styles and formatting sidebar to provide an additional means to accessing this
option. This would also be beneficial to accessible users, as the style &
formatting sidebar isnt accessible to them.

It would be useful to have a single uno command that can take an argument that
would be used to filter out a particular collection of styles, something like
the example below.

.uno:ListStyles?FamilyName:string=ParagraphStyles

The submenu should be filled with radio buttons, so that a user can know which
entry is currently active, and the submenu entry should likely be disable when
it is not applicable.

This would be needed for all modules and not just writer.

Before we start with the actual implementation we should flesh out the basics.
I mean questions like two or more columns, indentation, relation of labels vs.
controls etc., all what's declared in a guideline. This might end up in this
ui. We started the discussion last year in the mailing list
http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/msg07251.html and talked
recently about alignment (both threads unfinished).

Thanks. It looks clean.
The section names 'Print' and 'Style' look as if they not fully/nicely cover
what is in them, but hard to find better terms. Right and left page layout of
course is also on the screen. And paper try mostly related to paper format,
IMO. But I can live with it.
(Interesting that the Text direction can be set per page style (currently the
case too).)

I'd love to be able to do this visually. But as an easy and very helpful fix, I
think a code editor already helps *a lot*. I can imagine that browser based dev

The underlaying problem is, that the images, which you insert in Writer, are no
drawing objects. The request to allow grouping with such objects too, is very
old.

There exist some workarounds:
- Insert the images in a temporary Draw document, group them there, and copy
them back to Writer. The images are converted to drawing objects and as such
can be grouped.
- Put the images together into a frame, anchor them to frame, and set frame
border to none and transparency to 100%. So the frame takes the role of the
group.
- Use the picture as background of an rectangle, and rectangles can be grouped.

Yes the new organization also works in Calc and Impress/Draw.

I tried running LibreOffice from the terminal like this: "TIME_STYLE='ISO-8601'

This is what I got:
"ls: invalid argument 'ISO-8601' for 'time style'
Valid arguments are:
  - [posix-]full-iso
  - [posix-]long-iso
  - [posix-]iso
  - [posix-]locale
  - +FORMAT (e.g., +%H:%M) for a 'date'-style format
Try 'ls --help' for more information.
/usr/bin/soffice: 175: exec: /usr/bin/oosplash: not found"

It's an error, but not the "invalid time style" error you mentioned. How did
you set the environmental variable?

Multiple computers with different versions listed above, same result. The issue
is reproduced by opening an ODP and trying to save it as PPT (nor PPTX).

Sorry, I see Jay answered my question already in Bug 94773. We're tracking the

In the description, you wrote:
"This will also improve interoperability with MSO formats", but we still do not
import OOXML patterns as bitmaps like we do with the old binary formats. Do you
want to track that issue here or is it tracked in another report?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101895] New: Paragraph Dialog Units Changed to "ch" and "lines"

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101895

Bug ID: 101895
Summary: Paragraph Dialog Units Changed to "ch" and "lines"
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jmadero@gmail.com

Version: 5.3.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: c36489be617be3e8ca25612d29afb221bc7ae6c1
CPU Threads: 2; OS Version: Linux 3.16; UI Render: default;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group

Repro Steps:
1. Open writer;
2. Format -> Paragraph

Observed:

Notice that units are now "ch" by default instead of the units you generally
use/expect with your system. Through 5.2 my default units are American Standard
so I would see just 0.00" (" represents "inches"). I have no idea how how to
equate "ch" to inches.

Expected: Units would be based on locale and be consistent with other settings.
I just checked MS Office 2010 and it bases indent on system units so I see
inches - zero clue how I'd know if interop was right if I imported something
from Word that I knew was 1.25" and converted to some X ch

ALSO: This might be a separate bug but I was told to keep it in one

Repro Steps:
Same as above

Observed: "Above the line" and "below the line" now measured in "lines"

Expected: Either stick with metrics of system (again for me inches)_or move to
"pt" which is what Word apparently does.

These two issues make interop quite tedious

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 55592] wish: color replacer tool to work for whole document, not just a specific image

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55592

Re #5, I'm not sure that's quite right.

The problem would then become one of "automatically find all elements by
colour, and apply a given style to them".

The challenge here is not so much about editing documents created in the
"right" way (i.e using styles, and using a clear "html vs css" division) as of
editing long documents that have already been created, by "normal" users who
have applied direct manual formatting to each element (and where the document
may have originated in MS Word).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101893] New: Unable to select more than one image to create a Group

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101893

Bug ID: 101893
Summary: Unable to select more than one image to create a Group
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.1.4.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: besancon...@gmail.com

To recreate:

Create a new Word document.

Insert two pictures (e.g. jpeg images).
Add a text box and position it on top of one of the pictures. (for example, as
if you were adding a 'You Are Here' label on an image of a map.

Left Click to Select one of the pictures, so that the 8 blue squares are
visible, showing the selection is active.
Now use Shift Left Click to select the second image.
The 8 blue squares on the 1st image disappear, and the 2nd image isn't selected
either. i.e. neither image is now selected.

Left Click to Select one of the pictures, so that the 8 blue squares are
visible, showing the selection is active.
Now use Left Click to select the second image.
The 8 blue squares on the 1st image disappear, and 8 blue squares on the 2nd
image now appear. i.e. only the 2nd image is now selected.

Left Click to Select the text box, so that the 8 green squares are visible,
showing the selection is active.
Now use Shift Left Click to select the image underneath it.
The 8 green squares on the 1st image disappear, and the 2nd image isn't
selected either. i.e. neither object is now selected.

Left Click to Select the text box, so that the 8 green squares are visible,
showing the selection is active.
Now use Left Click to select the image underneath it.
The 8 green squares on the text box disappear, and 8 blue squares on the 2nd
image now appear. i.e. only the image is now selected.

The effect of this is that it is not possible to select images or text boxes
and add them to a Group, so if an image is moved, the text box won't move with
it. In the example of the You Are Here label on top of a map, this means your
label can easily end up in the wrong place on the map.

It seems somebody tried to reopen a closed bug report with this bug back in
February, but it looks like it was just closed again, with no action taken.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101889] Using OpenSymbol font with proper codepage in Linux

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101889

It's not that straightforward to fix the font substitution.
The actual used font is selected in ImplFontCache::GetFontInstance() and
PhysicalFontCollection::FindFontFamily(). The latter performs several steps,
and on my system, it finds OpenSymbol as Symbol's replacement at
rFontSubst.getSubstInfo( aSearchName ). There, it searches for exact match of
searched name in sorted list. If it wouldn't find OpenSymbol here, e.g. by
explicit break for Symbol search, then PhysicalFontCollection::FindFontFamily()
will use next method: for symbol fonts, it uses LO configuration
org.openoffice.VCL:LocalizedDefaultFonts['lang'].SYMBOL, that is a list of
fonts: on my system, it is StarSymbol;OpenSymbol;Arial Unicode MS;StarBats;Zapf
Dingbats;WingDings;Symbol. If I add e.g. Standard Symbols L to the head of the
list, then "it works".

To fix it properly, I think, two things are necessary:
1. To update OpenSymbol (that is LO native font, and so it must support the
necessary glyphs itself, instead of hoping that some system font will happen to
have those). I wonder if just copying those glyphs from Standard Symbols L is
OK? According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostscript, the font is either
GPL or AFPL.
2. The first step alone if not a proper fix: if user installs a font with a
name that will intercept the search in the above-mentioned algorithm, then
OpenSymbol won't be selected. So, some hardcoding may be necessary.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101862] Custom Shapes Creation (using handles, formulas etc.) is tedious

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101862

> Please, could describe some example?

Sure. So build-in shapes of that kind are most of the block arrows: They use a
(yellow) handle to allow adjustment of the arrow shape. Internally, they use
code like:

http://lautman.net/mark/coo/index.html

see, for example, the GUI elements in
http://lautman.net/mark/coo/GUI_Elements.odg

There is a shape named "progress bar" which progress bar length can be adjusted
via a yellow handle. This is very useful, since without that one would need to
move these manually after entering the group etc.

All the custom handles and behavior needed to be calculated (to find the right
points) and written by hand using the unzip/edit/zip/reopen workflow.

…Does the example help in understanding this better?

Hello JBF,
Thanks for your advice. I was probably not specific enough; with "custom
shapes" I was referring to shapes that use formulas, handles etc. so the
properties you can't create (as far as I am concerned) in the GUI.

Reproduced in Windows 7 and Ubuntu 16.04 with a couple of different versions
between 5.0.0.5 and 5.2.1.1. Not reproduced with 4.4.0.3. => regression.

Migual, can you try with these (maybe slightly more) precise steps:
1. Start a new document.
2. Type "something".
3. Press Ctrl-F, and search for not existing word "fig" by pressing Enter (do
this 2x). You'll get result "Search key not found" as expected.
4. Search for "something" by pressing Enter.

Bug: you will get result "Search key not found"
(second Enter will jump to the word)

This problem is described as #6 in bug 39256.
As that bug looks more like a meta-bug for tracking WMF-related problems, I add
it as "See Also" and will work on it here.

Further analysis shows that my previous statements need correction.
1. Always using 1252 doesn't work for Windows; I must had been dreaming when
wrote that it worked under Win10. So, the only way to fix this by selecting
encoding is conditional compilation (symbol charset for Windows, 1252 for
Linux).
2. OpenSymbol doesn't contain necessary glyphs for brackets/braces/parentheses.
Standard Symbols L actually does. When Symbol font encoding is set to 1252,
Standard Symbols L is used by LO, while for symbol encoding, OpenSymbol is
used, with recoding using utilities from unotools/source/misc/fontcvt.cxx. I
see preferable way to fix this by enabling LO to substitute Standard Symbols L
for Symbol font when symbol charset is used.
3. MT Extra problem mentioned above (and in bug 39256 #6) is fixed by using
symbol encoding, works both for Windows and Linux (MacOS isn't tested).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101889] New: Using OpenSymbol font with proper codepage in Linux

2016-09-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101889

Bug ID: 101889
Summary: Using OpenSymbol font with proper codepage in Linux
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: Inherited From OOo
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: filters and storage
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ba...@caesar.elte.hu

Mike Kaganski pointed out in bug 99402 that the symbol font handling in Linux
wasn't done properly in the first place:

"The Symbol font that is shipped with Windows (and is used in WMFs) has Symbol
charset (see https://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=1650).
OpenSymbol, on the other side, only has 1252 Latin-1 charset in it.

Fixing the original Linux problem by forcing Win1252 codepage everywhere seems
to work, even under Windows (at least my Win10 shows it well; seems that
Windows somehow makes internal recoding here). But I'm not sure if that's a
correct solution. IMO, more correct solution would be adding the Symbol charset
to OpenSymbol font itself."
(see full comment at [1])

Currently empty rectangles are displayed instead of brackets in mathtype
formulas.

Example:
"Under Linux, after the regression is fixed, the attacment 124514 from comment
0 shows two problems: one with brackets, and another one with "h" with stroke
in second line in h^2/2m. Both problems are caused by absent fonts: brackets -
from Symbol; stroked h - from MT Extra. Symbol font is mapped to OpenSymbol
under Linux. (I only mention MT Extra here for completeness/reference; it's out
of scope here.)"
(also from [1], attachment is [2])

Setting to NEW, as this is a confirmed issue.

Behavior can be fully seen with 5.3 master builds that include this commit (but
some brackets were already wrong before the regression in bug 99402 was
introduced):
