Sometimes nothing happens, sometimes no icon is shown, otherwise it cannot be dismissed, the dialog goes into the background when moving over an item in the start center showing a tooltip etc. Expected behavior is to just show the icon when updates are available. Clicking on it shows the update dialog and hides the icon. If the updater is run from Help > Check for updates the icon should not be shown. Bizarrely, I see the icon in the macOS menubar when LO is running on a colleagues macMini, but not on my Macbook Pro (in fact, not ever that I can recall). I don't know / haven't bothered to compare configs, to see if there's a particular setting that makes it appear on one machine's desktop, and not on another. The fact that there is no proper update mechanism on macOS is a known annoyance for LO on macOS. Sadly there is no workaround for that problem currently which is tracked as https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74934 I cannot recall seeing a menubar icon.
