Thanks for all the help, but I seem to have isolated the problem. I downloaded
and installed Libre Office onto my old Windows computer, and began a new folder
and file. Voila! Pagination proceeded smoothly, starting with 319 and
continuing on to to 323. Saved file, re-opened it and Presto! the pagination
was secure. Previously I had (a) removed LibreOffice from my regular laptop and
download and installed a fresh LO: the problem had persisted, so as I mentioned
earlier the problem began IMMEDIATELY after a Ubuntu update, which may have
corrupted my Writer files and folders. Nothing for it but to start afresh,
which I will now do, my next task being to (a) remove folder and files from my
laptop and then (b) download my duplicate files from DROPBOX. And next time a
Ubuntu update is imminent, I'll immediately SAVE all my files to my external
hard drive BEFORE the update download. Thanks once again for persisting with my
problem.Cordially, WORDSMYTH.

... I've attached part of a current LibreOffice file as requested:
the page number SHOULD read from 257 onwards, but as you will see it has
reverted to Page 1 and onwards. I trust this will reveal the problem.

Hi Lee,
Are you talking about the HTML file attachment, or?

There's a post on Stack Overflow that's a little old, but might give you some
information about page numbering:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11040080/libreoffice-page-number-bug

(In reply to Lee Harding from comment #11)
As previously reported, I am a novelist and currently plagued with
 pagination problems.

Sorry to hear that.

Have used OpenOffice and then Libre Office for years
and did not experience this problem until a Ubuntu Update, which included
 the current version of LibreOffice.

Sounds like a regression
Keywords - regression

No matter what page number I insert in Text Flow for Page I of a new
chapter, I get 63. As a check, I have checked chapters from earlier projects
that did not have this problem, but when I insert a new page number for page
 oneI get 63.

Two things:
1) Please provide a test file (preferably an ODT) that shows this problem
2) Please provide a clear set of steps that allow us to reproduce the problem

(when you've done that, please change status to UNCONFIRMED. Thanks!)

Hi Lee,
I did some additional testing with the NN27a.doc file you uploaded (attachment
97866), and editing the Paragraph as described in
https://stackoverflow.com/a/11040854 I was able to change the first page number
to 257 (and following pages incremented as expected).

I saved the file as ODT, DOC, and DOCX. When I reopened the file:

ODT: Page number remained at 257
DOC: Page number reset to 1
DOCX: Page number remained at 257

RESULT: Saving to a non-ODF file format may lose data (especially if the given
format doesn't support a given feature.

Please try saving your files as the native ODT format, and see if that solves
the problem for you.

Thanks for your continued support. I will now endeavour to reply to your
request:

As previously reported, I am a novelist and currently plagued with pagination
problems. Have used OpenOffice and then Libre Office for years and did not
experience this problem until a Ubuntu Update, which included the current
version of LibreOffice. My stats are as follows:

I am running Ubuntu 14.04LTS on an Acer Aspire E-1-531 64bit with Intel Celeron
1.80GHzx2, with LibreOffice 4.2.7.2 Build ID: 420mO (Build 2)

No matter what page number I insert in Text Flow for Page I of a new chapter, I
get 63. As a check, I have checked chapters from earlier projects that did not
have this problem, but when I insert a new page number for page oneI get
63.

Can you imagine how frustrating this is? It is affecting my professional output
and income! Currently on a brief annual holiday, my plan is to return to
Windows and Word when I resume work, hoping to safely transfer my files to Word
without any problems. BUT:

I have heard of corrupt files, though in my fifteen year experience with
computers have not experienced one. Could this current problem fall into this
catagory, and if so, how can it be fixed. If I can't transfer the files safely
to MS

I'm not a techie but I HAVE been using Ubuntu for many years, and had no
problems with LibreOffice 3.

I trust the above information will assist. Thank you. wordsmyth

P.S. Now this is puzzling. I just checked the attachment on this SENT copy

then check my copy of the file I find ...Page Nos 1-4! What IS going on
here?

I had no problems with Libre Office 3.00 - which I can no longer download -
but am plagued with them in LO4. When I set to VIEW my page to PAGE WIDTH,
it does not keep this format when I save but reverts to default: maddening!
And consecutive page numbering is useless: writing book chapters, I save my
file with correct numbers intact, but when I next load it the page numbers
begin with `1 and continue in this fashion. Until this bug is fixed, I'm
re-installing Ubuntu 12.04 which has LO 3 and which works PERFECTLY. Smarten
up, LibreOffice: 4 is NOT user friendly.

Hi, which version of the LibreOffice 4.x branch are you using? and please
provide the document with which you experience the page numbering problem,
otherwise we can't reproduce and try to fix the problem. I set the issue on

If you mean with when you paste a web text to libre office writer 4.2.3
opening the PDF in your PDF viewer and cpy and paste the text to LibreOffice
writer, I can confirm this behaviour (but this happens also in MS Word 2013).
But if you import the PDF, the whole text including formattings and links is
imported!
