I'm not in Long Beach, actually I live much further north in a beautiful little
Victorian seaport town - Port Townsend, Washington. I do keep up with tech stuff
though and found out about the Long Beach project in November when I was in
Southern CA on a biz/grandson trip! I followed what they were doing right up to
the grand unveiling of their wireless system this week. Pretty exciting stuff -
I wish our city fathers had that much vision!

Local government is footing the bill for the Long Beach project but it sounds
like they have some good partnerships with local tech companies and businesses
who will benefit but as it spreads to the rest of Long Beach there will be costs
to the local taxpayers. However, this would be offset by free access to the
internet. I think the whole idea is great in that it gives the chance for all
the citizens there to have web access with all of the possibilities that will
bring, culturally, economically and socially! You can read up on it at

Maybe I'll start collecting all these useful URLs and put together a links

Wow... you're out in Long Beach Chester? I was out there for a couple of
years. They out to be about ready to set things up for the races at this
point.

So who pays for all this free Internet access? The local Chambers of
Commerce and local taxpayers?

To wireless access points spread throughout the airport, cafes and big city
hotels. My
Libby card will usually find the access
point transmission and automatically be configured by Win2K to then connect
the laptop to
the internet. There are some
broadcast standards that aren't automatically configured but there is
usually a notice of
what the standard is in any
particular facility that I can manually configure to for connection. Pretty
slick all in
all! The City of Long Beach, CA just this
week has wirelessed their downtown core area for just such access. One can
sit in a cafe,
hotel room, car, meeting room or
wherever and connect to the internet - and be able to move around the
entire area without
losing the connection. They will
soon extend this service outside of the downtown area to the rest of Long
Beach - and it's
all at no cost to the user!

[LIB] 100/110 power supplies

2003-01-18 Thread barnacle
Date: Sat, 18 Jan 2003 10:21:11 +
From: barnacle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: 100/110 power supplies

A power supply which I believe to be for the 100 or 110 (PA3035U - it has the
two-hole 0.1" spaced connector) has come into my possession.

What I would really like is a power supply for a 50-70 with the co-axial plug.

Chopping this connector off and replacing it with a coax is a piece of cake
but it seems a shame to waste this connector - of which I have heard such
agonies on this list over the years :)

So - anyone want to swap a 50 psu for this one? Failing that, anyone able to
use this connector (free!) once i've chopped it off?

Remember that I'm based in the UK so postage of the PSU to the states is
hideously expensive :( though the plug will go in an envelope.

Neil
