[LIB] DVD problems
Date: Tue, 1 Jan 2002 10:34:00 - From: George Derby [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: DVD problems From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: OT: Help with Portege I recently received a Toshiba Portege 3110. It is larger than my Lib50 but the screen is so much easier for my older eyes to see. It came with the Toshiba authorized DVD drive that uses a PCMCIA card for the interface. I am trying to play a movie on it,but it has the occasional jitter and dropped audio. It has the max RAM (192 meg) and a 300 mhz processor. Is there a player that is more efficient than the others? Is there anything I can do, other than making the picture size smaller, to make it all play smoothly? (I do not think I am ready to tackle Linux just yet) I know this is (slightly) off topic, but it is a Toshiba, right? And you guys are some of the most savvy people I know. Hello I have quite a bit of experience of trying to get DVD to work on Librettos and other laptops. Essentially, it is down to the speed of the processor (300 Mhz) is just below recommended so I am not surprised it is jittery. I have had the Libretto running DVD and that was initially slow / jittery and the audio broke up. Ensure that DMA is enabled on the DVD drive - this is certainly an option on PC drives but I am not sure that it is on PCMCIA drives. Go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager, click CD rom, and go to properties of your drive. If you use a Margi card, that is a big improvement. It is a dedicated DVD PCMCIA card - that really did improve the quality of the picture / sound, rather than using just software only, such as PowerDVD. Re: DVD and ZV port sound
Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 08:52:08 +0100 From: George Derby [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: DVD and ZV port sound I have DVD running on a 100 - sound and picture a little jumpy at times but just about acceptable. However, the sound is routed out of the Margi card's connector, through the lead into the 2.5mm jack socket. I wanted to route it directly through the ZV sound port, like on my other laptop. However, the sound profiles do not show ZV port available and I do not seem to be able to choose it from anywhere. Help. Formatting hard drives and instaliing Win98 -100CT
Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 11:05:18 +0100 From: George Derby [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Formatting hard drives and instaliing Win98 -100CT Could any one help with the issue of formatting. How do you reserve an invisible partition of 64 Mb and where does it go. Is it absoluitely necessary. I am hoping to fit a 6 Gb drive. I presume I can format the drive (and FDISK it) on my PC and copies Win98 onto it - then fit it to my Libretto and go to setup in Win98. Re: Libretto 100/110 PSU and carrier bag
Date: Sun, 6 May 2001 09:24:18 +0100 From: George Derby [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Libretto 100/110 PSU and carrier bag I was in PC World (UK store) yesterday and I noticed they now sell laptop power supplys made my TARGUS - the bag people. These are made for a variety of laptops but include the LIBRETTO 100/110 - in the packaging there are all sorts of connectors including the specially shaped one for the 100/110. The PSUs cost about £89.99 (GB Pounds). Also my own 100 fits neatly into a TARGUS carry case - these is room for PC cards but you could not fit a port replicator or mini-card station, both of which I have. The TARGUS reference is - model no CH400. Hope this is helpful.
