Thanks I will transfer again.. I was pretty sure that kernel, initrd disk
were transferred as binary.

I will try again transferring.

Sounds like the Z install image you have is corrupted. Try getting a fresh copy
and start over with the install. When you transfer the image, make sure it’s
transferred in binary mode (the Windows FTP client defaults to text mode unless
told to switch, so if you used the Windows ftp client, that’s probably what
happened).

Ok there was an error with the subnet mask and it is going fine, but find
some message which am not sure from Linux point of view .

Warnings : can't find installer main page path in .treeinfo

AnacondaY1787 : raise Value error("No closing quotation")
AnacondaY1787 : valueError: No closing quotation

After the above phase it's not proceeding further.

You may have more luck installing from a HTTP source. IIS is pretty awful, but
it should be able to supply the files if prepared correctly. There is a section
in the docs on what files have to be where and how you need to handle filename
cases, etc.

If you can boot your Intel machine from USB or DVD, there are a number of
bootable Linux images that work well and don't involve installing on the local
disk of your Intel box. That may prove to be a lot less grief in the long run.

Jake, the parm file needs to be one continuous line, no CRLF. On Windows I have
been using NOTEPAD++ to create the correct format parm file.

I am trying to FTP the Linux files from my windows (which is an ftp

After changing enccw0.0.0600:none to

enc600:none. The message was different this time and I got

RTNETLINK answers : Network is unreachable

Warning : can't find installer main image path in .treeinfo

Failed to connect 9.1.9.166 port 21 : no route to host

From the window I just moved the image folder of redhat disc image
file(rhel-8.0-s390x-boot).

This is the first time I am attempting from windows FTP to zVM. Apart from
moving the image folders are there any other customisation required in
windows?

Also, make sure you don't change the filename or directory case. Windows

a file is uppercase/lowercase, but Linux will.

how about the .treeinfo from the root directory? I'm not familiar with
Windows any more, but there should be an option to see "invisible" or
"system" files whose names start with a dot on Linux.

If there is a transfer log on the FTP server, it should show what files
the installation is looking for (both successfully and unsuccessfully).
Does it try to find install.img which is the actual installer?

Re: Redhat 8.1 error

2019-09-10 Thread Jake Anderson
Hi

No firewall is not blocking as I tested from the guest session with FTP
command and I was able to logon to my windows FTP server from zVM.

Secondly I have moved all the image file content to my windows FTP folder
Which has

Boot - security catalogue
Cdboot - disc image file
Cdboot - PRM file
Generic - PRM file
Genericdvd - PRM file
Initrd.addrsize - ADDRSIZE file
Initrd - disc image file
Install - disc image file
Kernel - disc image file
Redhat.exec - EXEC file
TRANS.TBL - TBL file

Now above files are placed inside the FTP folder path under image folder.

Regards
Jake

IIRC this is harmless (IPv6 related?)

You should move everything from the DVD to the ftp server (or let the
ftp server provide the whole ISO mounted somewhere). The installer
looks for some internal files and looks for the paths to the rest of
the content there. It tries to find ${inst.repo}/.treeinfo

Re: Redhat 8.1 error

2019-09-10 Thread Jake Anderson
I am trying to FTP the Linux files from my windows (which is an ftp
server).

After changing enccw0.0.0600:none to

enc600:none. The message was different this time and I got

RTNETLINK answers : Network is unreachable

Warning : can't find installer main image path in .treeinfo

Failed to connect 9.1.9.166 port 21 : no route to host

>From the window I just moved the image folder of redhat disc image
file(rhel-8.0-s390x-boot).

This is the first time I am attempting from windows FTP to zVM. Apart from
moving the image folders are there any other customisation required in
windows?

please make sure all options are in lowercase (ip=), udev in rhel8
changed/shortened the persistent naming for network interface, it's now
enc600

I think the first step in diagnosing such issues should be reviewing
"ip addr" and "ip route" outputs in the emergency shell.
