Re: Linux friendly ADSL ISPs (urgent)

2001-05-01 Thread Eli Marmor

 Unfriendly is Bezeq Itl. Incompetent is Internet Zahav. Everybody else
 is pretty much ok except Actcom which is good.

Thanks Marc!

I've always said that it is very helpful to have somebody with a painful
SCSI cable, that doesn't have any problem to say the bad word when somebody
else needs it.

And thanks Eran Levy too.

Since it (yesterday) was the last day to enjoy the deals of Bezeq and the
ISPs, I ordered 2 lines from one of the ISPs that don't require long
obligations (012 in my case). If there is a problem, or I'll want static
IPs in the future and 012 will not provide me with them, or Bezeq will
launch attractive SDSL service, I always can move to a competing package.

In any case, my expensive Frame-Relay is not going to be dis-connected
soon...  :-(

Thanks again,

Seriously, though, you should define --enable-bidin the the spec file

windows cycling in fvwm

2001-05-01 Thread Tzafrir Cohen

Hi

How do I set fvwm2 (2.2.5) to have Alt-Tab cycle through windows?

Following the man page, I set:

Key Tab A   M   Next (*) Focus
Key Tab A MS Prev (*) Focus

and later tried:

Key Tab A M Next (CurrentScreen) Focus
Key Tab A MS Prev (CurrentScreen) Focus

But then Alt-tab gets to the next window in the windows list, and will not
cycle from the last one to the first one.

I searched the man page and the FAQ but could not find a way to do it,
although this seems like a rather required feature.

Anyone? Any other decent way to switch between windows using the keyboard?

No, it's not it. '()' instead of '[]' is simply a new syntax. But from
what I understand Alt-Tab does as requested: sets the focus to the next
window. I only want to be able to go to the first window after the last
window.

Thanks anyway

Hi,

If I get this right, what you describe is a problem in the X setup, before
your .xinitrc, .fvwmrc or the like comes to play.
You need to change the configuration of your X server. This change will be
noted in your (probably this is the path) /etc/X11/XF86Config file.
You screen got blank, I guess, due to bad modelines. The remedy work needs
to be done hands on. You can try to: lower resolution, change the modelines.
You can get help from automated tools like XConfigurator or XF86Setup or the

but important for it's other data) XF86Config file.

   Hi List.

   I am trying to upgrade gnome on my LinuxBox. I''ve
  installed/upgraded all
   required gnome-* rpms and their dependencies.
   Then tried to startx. Unfortunatly it didn't work. I got
  blank screen.
   The question is of course, how to make it work ?

   Few words about the LinuxBox.
   I had RedHat 6.2 originaly. New rpm's I've installed are
  from RedHat 7.1.

   I've tried to change .xinitrc. First removed it completely.
  Then wrote
   exec
   gnome-wm in there. In both cases, the result was as
  described below.

   This is it.
   Any help will be pretiated.

I think it should be gnome-session

After you run this, what are the last messages you get to the console? (If
you're in X you'll need to press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get there, and
Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get back)

Also, try running:

xinit /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm

and from that xterm try running gnome-session, gnome-wm , panel , or
whatever.

One other thing is the olde gnome config files in your home directory may
be problematic to some newer versions.

  The problem is not in XF86Config, but in gnome.
  When I said, I am having a blank screen, I meant to the
 pure X - no WM
  black-white dotted screen, you propably saw lot's of time.

   Hi,

   If I get this right, what you describe is a problem in the X
   setup, before
   your .xinitrc, .fvwmrc or the like comes to play.
   You need to change the configuration of your X server. This
   change will be
   noted in your (probably this is the path)
 /etc/X11/XF86Config file.
   You screen got blank, I guess, due to bad modelines. The
   remedy work needs
   to be done hands on. You can try to: lower resolution, change
   the modelines.
   You can get help from automated tools like XConfigurator or
   XF86Setup or the
   like (run them as root), but DO NOT forget to backup your
   existing (useless
   but important for it's other data) XF86Config file.

It apears that Alcatel distributes Linux drivers to the USB speedtouch

Anything new with Mandrake 8 and the missing line of echo -n test?

2001-05-01 Thread Shaul Karl

Just wondering if there is something new about it?

 Hi list.

 We've just solved this really weird problem with Mandrake 8 (well - solved
 is a harsh word - let's say : we found it why we were going in circles and
 wanted to show you the way in case you get lost too :-), which made my
 life a bit diificult in the last three days or so -

 We have a program which writes a single line (with no new line) to stdout
 and quits - this small test program is a good example:

 #include lt;string.h
 #include lt;stdio.h

 int main (int argc, char* argv[]) {
 char temp[200];

 sprintf(temp,quot;testquot;);
 write(1,temp,strlen(temp));
 return 0;
 }
 ---

 Now, on a MDK72 and any other well behaving 2.2 distro running this would
 get you something like this :
 ---
 [user@computer user]$ ./test
 test[user@computer user]$
 ---
 But on MDK8 I got this :
 ---
 [user@computer user]$ ./test
 [user@computer user]$
 ---
 no mention of the output text at all. redirecting stdout to a file and
 'cat'ing the file it seemed like it does not do output at all.
 stracing proved that not only it does call write() it actually prints what
 I want it to print.
 Although at first we thought we had a glibc flush problem (the original
 program uses printf) or (weird as it may seem) a kernel buffer flushing
 problem, and we were about to raise hell on the kernel development mailing
 list - the solution was pretty simple :

 it seems that the Mandrake 8 default shell - bash 2.04.18 - sends a
 carriage return before printing it's prompt - overwriting everything
 written on the same line, as this revised code shows:

 #include lt;string.h
 #include lt;stdio.h

 int main (int argc, char* argv[]) {
 char temp[200];

 sprintf(temp,quot;testquot;);
 write(1,temp,strlen(temp));
 sleep(1);
 return 0;
 }
 ---

 simply annoying.
 I was wandering if I should report this as a bug, and if so - to how ?
 Mandrake ?

 Oded

 p.s. -
 All you csh lovers, please no flaims as to the superiority of tcsh over
 bash, this is not a good example, as even considering this minor
 anoyance, Bash is clearly supreme ;-)

Re: Tigerjet ISDN Linux support

 Hi - I've seen numerous posts from people trying to get their Tigerjet isdn card

I have not tried much but it might be that you should find out what other

What is wrong with rpms? And if you prefer to compile it yourself why not
