[APII] Early bird gets the worm
Every penguin has its day. Our day is August 1st. Marked the date on your calendar? Good. Now why not save your seat at the track? Early registration helps us plan the event better - so don't wait to the last minute. Also... The first 100 people to register will receive a mini-CD with a small Linux distribution (contributed by Boris Ratner). In addition, Actcom will give a free Internet account to a randomly selected participant. So pick up your finger and click your mouse (lynx users: don't worry, it's just a metaphore): http://www.hamakor.org.il/august.html -- - Aviram = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Left mouse button stopped working
Yedidyah Bar-David [EMAIL PROTECTED]: You seem to be certain it's not a hardware problem. Is this the case? Do you have some proof? If it's hardware, it's possible to map some other button to be button 1 (with e.g. 'xmodmap -e pointer = 1 1 2 or something like that), but mice are so cheap I would find it easier to simply buy one. If you think it's software, you can at least cat /proc/interrupts and see if it sends interrupts when you click the buttons (you might need to also cat the device since /proc/interrupts only shows irqs of used (open?) devices). The rest of the buttons work. I guess this is a hardware problem because I can not get response in that-other-os neither. Anyhow, I somehow hitted the mouse and it began to work sometimes. I mean it gets most of the clicks, but not all of them. I guess I'll buy a new one. Yet Another (almost) Linux (almost a ) Job Offer
Hi all, There is a little company which I tried to convince to move to Linux for the past years (well, it's a family bussiness). Anyhow, after several years, they have decided to install a Linux server for some SQL project. I have installed RH 9.0 with all updates, and gave them the box. Now, as I will go abroad, they are looking for someone they can call once in a while to ask both Linux questions, and programming with SQL questions (they plan on using mySQL, becuase that's what you get with RH 9.0). So: If you have experience with such projects/cases, and you are willing for not too intesive job (AFAIK, it's not a regular job), willing to answer to calls, etc. Please contact me by email. Thanks in advance. -- Orr Dunkelman, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Man is the only animal that blushes--or has reason to. --- Mark Twain Spammers: http://vipe.technion.ac.il/~orrd/spam.html = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Linux compatible wi-fi
There was a bit of wi-fi discussion on this list recently, and it made me want to go wireless myself. I searched the various hardware vendors online, but all I seem to find are D-Link DWL-650+ cards, which seem to be the only reasonably-priced 802.11b cards imported to Israel. But those cards are based on TI chipset, for which exists a problematic (and unsupported) binary driver, and a non-mature, reversed-enginereed open source driver. As I don't wish to buy a card just to find out I can't really use it, can any of you recommend a supported (I'm willing to use binary drivers, if no other alternative exists) 802.11b cardbus/PCMCIA card, along with a local vendor that sells it? Is it legal to mail-order such a card from abroad? (I know that one can't import 900MHz phones, for example. But since there are some 802.11b devices being imported legally, I wonder if that opens the door for all devices sharing that frequency). -- Shay = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Only 3 (of 12) of 802.11b and none of the Blue-tooth frequency ranges are legal in Israel right now. All the 2.4 GH ranges (Wifi and BT) will be legal starting 1/10/2003 (see Ha'aretz of today). Re: Linux compatible wi-fi
Hi, Both the Edimax EW-7106 (PCMCIA) and Edimax EW-7115U (USB but very compact) are supposed to work well under Linux. At pchardware.co.il they sell for 245NIS and 280NIS respectively (you may want to do a zap.co.il lookup). That's cheaper than the unsupported D-Link DWL-650+. No 22Mbps, though. I'll receive both adapters soon; e-mail me in a couple of weeks to get a report.
