Here's another vote for Book Depository. Another point in their favor is
that they accept PayPal, whereas Amazon insists on having my credit card

I found the book depository (www.bookdepository.co.uk) reasonably fast and
cheap for computing books - they have free shipping (from England)
to Israel (and worldwide) on everything. The books usually get to Israel in
under a week.

May I or May I not run TOR service with trust calculation

2010-08-30 Thread Boris shtrasman
IANAL,

Every now and then **I hear about someone more running TOR servers here in
IL,
Few months ago I heared about resarch in trust computing in TOR and off TOR
network (few weeks ago I have read a research done by Marina Kupeetzki). The
question under the current law may I run TOR server / Exit node ?

My question arise after reading צו הצופן and remembering that in many cases
the encryption between the nodes is much more then 56 bit(*).
Also If you operate a TOR exit node, you actually help people that are in
countries in conflict with IL (e.g. Iran) so I don't know if it is even
legal to run an exit node here.

(*) - I take the number 56 since I saw it on J.Klinger blog.

COM port redirector

I need to use a single serial port from a computer remotely. That is, I need
to have a virtual COM port driver which will emulate the COM port, and would
send and receive the actual data from a computer with a real COM port which
is a running a special server.

It seems that this Wikipedia article describes what I'm looking for

Can anyone recommend an application (preferably opensource, preferable cross

I think that a Virtual COM is something is difficult to be.. unified.

Google found the following:

http://www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.html

which claims to create a Virtual COM that opens a TCP connection to a remote
location.

And there's the well known:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ser2net/

That runs on Linux as a listener, allowing TCP connections to communicate
with a real port.

Those two together sound like they should do the job...

Of course the driver stack will be different, but the protocol used to
transfer serial activity over IP should be unified.

Hebrew DNS

Not exactly on-topic, but I thought I'd ask here anyway, because I don't know a

A client of ours would like to take advantage of ISOC's offering of Hebrew

What do you mean set up to handle UTF-8 ?

IDNs are very regular domains, with a minor change - the zone name contains
a double dash, which was previously illegal. You define it as any other
domain your your DNS SW.

Just type the Hebrew domain name in Firefox, it will be converted to
xn--something [*] - that's what you put in your zone definition, and you're
done...

IDNs were available on .com/.net for quite some time now; It's just ISOC
that were slow to adapt what the rest of the world did years ago...

Please note that ISOC does not provide Hebrew domains domains just yet (in
the scheme of HebrewString.co.il and HebrewString.net.il), and there is no
known plans to allow it anytime soon.

Some TLDs do allow registration of IDN domains, including dot com TLDs, but
for most IDN TLDs the domain won't appear in Hebrew in the browser location
bar due to limited or no support for detecting spoofed addresses.

On the other hand, a local registerar named Domain The Net provide Hebrew
domain including Hebrew TLD. I won't recommend using these domain, as they
are not registered at IANA and will be accessible only on some local ISPs
and only on some configurations.

My client wrote to me that The Internet Society (ISOC) began the process of
pre-registering domain names in Hebrew. English domain names under the
extensions .co.il and .org.il can register their URLs in Hebrew now as
well. My client has .co.il and .org.il domains.

So I assume it's coming soon, even though you say there are no known plans.
