FM radio receiver

2015-07-06 Thread Josu Lazkano
Hello all,

I am looking for a FM radio receiver to add to a Raspberry Pi to
stream it with MPD.

Anyone could recommend any device?

I prefer to have it with USB interface.

Best regards.

Re: Kernel crash with dvb devices

2015-05-03 Thread Josu Lazkano
Thanks for the reply,

I am not sure if it is related to the TeVii.

Someone could say which device is crashing? I see [dib7000p] in the
call trace, maybe it could be Hauppauge Nova-TD Stick (52009)
device, it use dvb_usb_dib0700 module.

Regards.

 Hi,
I don’t have S660 but the S650 and I have hat also kernel crash see on
the link [1]. For this i am using an workaround inside grub (I am on
 Archlinux x86_64):
 /etc/default/grub:
 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=irqpoll ipv6.disable=1

With the irqpoll I don’t have crashes. Of course it would be great to
fix this. Maybe it can help you to.

Bus 007 Device 002: ID 9022:d484 TeVii Technology Ltd.

But there is no any device in /dev/dvb/:

# ls -l /dev/dvb/
ls: cannot access /dev/dvb/: No such file or directory

Need I install any other driver or piece of software?

I will appreciate any help.

But there are errors, could you help with the driver compilation? I
prefer to use the Debian kernel/modules in a clean way.

 Hi Josu,

TeVii still have their own version of media tree (may be some day they will
make their way through main stream ...)

 The drivers are available here
http://www.tevii.com/Tevii_Release_v5192_20140915.rar but you have to be
 aware of the following :
 - rar files are not necessarily rar ! It's sometimes just tar files or
 tar.gz
 - you have to compile the drivers so you need at least kernel headers and
tools to build drivers from sources (don't know which packages for Debian)
 - once you have built with make and before you make install you need to
remove the actual media tree from your kernel with rm -Rf
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/media in order to have no symbols
discrepencies. Be sure you have no error during make !
 - I have used TeVii products both at work and at home and found poor
 reliability (and poor support).

 Good luck,

 René

 Thanks René,

I have more TeVii devices (S470 and S660) running in other machine
with no problems, just copying the firmware work out of the box.

Is really necessary to compile the Tevii driver? I have more DVB
device and want to use Debian kernels.

 I try to compile it:

 wget
 http://www.tevii.com/Tevii_Product_20140428_media_build_b6.tar.bz2.rar
 tar -xjvf Tevii_Product_20140428_media_build_b6.tar.bz2.rar
 cd b6/media_build/
 make (output: http://paste.debian.net/plain/123090)

But there are errors, could you help with the driver compilation? I
prefer to use the Debian kernel/modules in a clean way.

 Regards.

 Hi Josu,

TeVii still have their own version of media tree (may be some day they
 will
make their way through main stream ...)

 The drivers are available here
http://www.tevii.com/Tevii_Release_v5192_20140915.rar but you have to be
 aware of the following :
 - rar files are not necessarily rar ! It's sometimes just tar files or
 tar.gz
 - you have to compile the drivers so you need at least kernel headers and
tools to build drivers from sources (don't know which packages for
 Debian)
 - once you have built with make and before you make install you need
 to
remove the actual media tree from your kernel with rm -Rf
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/media in order to have no symbols
discrepencies. Be sure you have no error during make !
 - I have used TeVii products both at work and at home and found poor

Thanks Torfinn!

I get it working with modules compilation, that great!

cd linux-source-3.2/

for the kernel version)

cp drivers/media/dvb/dvb-core/dvb-core.ko

(reboot)

I am not software developer and I have no idea what means race
conditions, is this sasc-ng or linux driver problem?

It will be great to fix it and not patch the driver anymore, but I am
happy with this solution (module compilation).

 Hi Josu,
 you can do this way:

 git clone git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git
 cd media_build
 ./build
 ## you can ctrl-C as soon as it starts compiling the drivers, or wait
 until the end ##
 make menuconfig
 ## change all the options you like and save ##
 cd linux
 make
 cd ..
 make install

Thanks!

I comment the make line on the build script.

I don't know if this is related to the DVB device or the Nvidia board.
This is the board USB controller:

I will appreciate any help, I have not enough technical skill to

Re: AF9015 Dual tuner i2c write failures

2011-11-11 Thread Josu Lazkano
2011/11/11 Tim Draper veeh...@gmail.com:
 Hi all,

i've recently bought an AF9015 usb module from ebay, and am struggling
to get it working correctly. i've been recommended to post here on the
 mythtv MailingList.

i'm running mytbuntu 11.04 x64, and the mythbackend service shows
 af9013: I2C read failed reg:d607
 af9015: command failed:1
and will refuse to establish a lock. so far i've only been able to
find a temporary fix to this by re-inserting the USB stick (ie: it has
to loose power on the USB stick)

i've been googling a fair bit, and i've only found somewhat old info
reguarding (firmware?) source code that is no longer available (it has
been merged into another codeset), and thus the patch file is not
 applicable to it
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9712937postcount=126 is what
 i'm working from.

i am confident the device does work as if i test it immediately after
being re-inserted i get both tuners working fine. after a while though
i start seeing the above errors in the mythtv logs, and i am no longer
 able to tune into channels.

just to be clear, i am sure the issue is down to a firmware/driver
issue, and not a config or a problem is yet to be discovered as the
last few nights of googling does show this as an issue on certain
 devices.

how do i get this issue sorted?
 thanks for any help!

Hello Tim, Malcolm is working on a patch and it is working, maybe it
is not finished but I am using it on MythTV.

I can send it, but I prefer to wait a reply from Malcolm, he is great!

Devin, could you add some info on the linuxtv wiki (firmware, installation...)?

My mistake.  I must have gotten it confused with something else.

Despite assertions that it's Hauppauge's coolest stick, the user is
claiming that it isn't working.  Did they use new USB VID/PIDs that
will require a driver change to add support for it?

 Devin

I just took a look on our model matrix, and confirmed with hardware -
we did not assigned new ID's, and the WinTV Duet is identical to the
Nova TD ... From the post I see, the user is simply asking if the
device is supported -- it is in fact supported.  Where is the post
 that says he's having trouble?

Yes, it works correctly as a dual tuner.  This is one of Hauppauge's
more popular tuner sticks for use both in Windows *and* Linux.

 http://tevii.com/100315_Beta_linux_tevii_ds3000.rarunrar x
 100315_Beta_linux_tevii_ds3000.rarcp dvb-fe-ds3000.fw
 /lib/firmware/tar xjvf linux-tevii-ds3000.tar.bz2cd
 linux-tevii-ds3000make  make install
 Regards.

I'll try use this drivers today, but for this devices drivers exist in
kernel from 2.6.33. So it must work with in-kernel drivers.

P.S. Firmware from this archive I put in /lib/firmware before all tests.
 $ md5sum /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-ds3000.fw
 a32d17910c4f370073f9346e71d34b80  /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-ds3000.fw

Hello again, actually, I am using this method for Tevii S660 and S470:

apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` build-essential
mkdir /usr/local/src/dvb
cd /usr/local/src/dvb
wget http://mercurial.intuxication.org/hg/s2-liplianin/archive/tip.zip
unzip tip.zip
cd s2-liplianin-0b7d3cc65161
make CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV:=n
make install

Both methods works for me on a Debian Squeeze (2.6.32). Here more
info: http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/TeVii_S470

Regards.

Try this patch, it should stop start up corruption on the same frontend.

 Thanks.  I'll try it today.

Have you been able to reproduce any of the corruption issues I and
 others are having?

I noticed last night some recordings on the same card had different
levels of corruption depending on the order of tuning

Tuner A then tuner B : Tuner A was heavily corrupted.  Tuner B was a fine.
Tuner B then tuner A: Tuner A had a small corruption every few seconds
and the show was watchable, Tuner B was fine.

Thanks again, I try the patch and it works well last nigh. This
morning one tuner is getting pixeled images and the other can not
LOCK.

I have two af9013 sticks in my mythtv backend. One is a KWorld 399U, the
other a single tuner Tevion stick.

When I originally setup this system I had major problems with these sticks
and also a pair of Freecom WT-220U (which worked perfectly in an older
system - I've since disposed of these).

I was seeing I2C read fails similar to the above.

The system in question has an AMD760G southbridge.

After a lot of googling I came across a post somewhere which said that the
USB host controller on the 760G is problematic and suggested getting a NEC
or VIA hub and using this between the DVB sticks and the root hub.

I bought a cheap hub with an NEC chip on and since then (6 months maybe)
I've had no problems with the system. Having said this I probably don't use
all three frontends that often (I also have a DVB-S card and this takes
precedence) though I certainly have on occasion and don't recall any
 problems.

5.1?  OK, I might eventually try that one too.

This morning I get a little pixeled playback, less than a second.

OK, mine was fine for a few days then the pixellation started up in earnest.

At the moment my symptoms were always:

 TunerA: Tuned - picture good
 TunerB: Idle

Tuner B gets tuned, Tuner A starts to pixellate badly.

I am sure this is the case too:

 TunerA: Idle
 TunerB: Tuned - picture good

Tuner A gets tuned and has a bad recording.  *Never* has Tuner B
suffered from the pixellation in spite of whatever Tuner A is doing!

Anyway, Malcolm has suggested there is a bug lurking in MythTV too
causing problems with dual tuners so it's a bit hard to isolate the
 issue.

mplayer to set up and view Tuner A and Tuner B and Tuner A only showed
some slight errors when Tuner B was being set up.  After that for some
strange reason attempt at retuning with mplayer failed utterly so I
suspect there is some problems with the older versions of mplayer.

These cards have blue LEDs for each tuner and light up when in use.  I
did notice in my testing that the LED on tuner A would flicker off
briefly (and presumably issue the errors) when Tuner B was being set
up.  I am wondering if there is a general setup problem or even a I2S
timing problem.  Could someone contact me off list about sending me

I add the dual device on a laptop with same kernel 2.6.32.

It works well, both tuners working great with no pixeled images.

Two weeks ago, I must change my HTPC power supply, a 300W PFC. I had
some problems when connecting a 2,5 USB drive (it use to shutdown). On
the local shop they test it and there are more than 5V on the USB, so
they change it.

How can I test the USB? Is there any USB debug tool?

I don't know how to continue with this, thanks for all your help, best regards.

2011/8/21 Jason Hecker jwhec...@gmail.com:
I have a problem that may be related to the issues on this thread and
 it's driving me nuts.

I have two dual tuner Afatech based cards, they are both Leadtek
2000DS cards, one made by Leadtek and the other branded as KWorld but
they are otherwise identical in spite of different VID:PID.

On each card tuner A is an AF9015 and tuner B is an AF9013.  The
KWorld card worked just fine for about 18 months in Mythbuntu 10.04
with the rebuilt and patched modules as described in the Wiki entry on
the 2000DS.  A few weeks ago tuner A started giving errors making the
viewing unwatchable so figuring the card had died I bought the
Leadtek.  To my surprise it gave the same problem as the KWorld when
using tuner A.  It seems Tuner A is OK until Tuner B is used and then
Tuner A gets a lot of errors.  Tuner B never has errors.  I did try
using the latest media_build from V4L but that didn't help.

So, I installed Mythbuntu 11.04 and with both cards I
still get the same problem.  Watching live TV with MythTV or with
mplayer on tuner A gives errors and tuner B is always flawless even
 with media_build updates.

I honestly can't recall if when the failure first occurred if I had
done a routine kernel update at that time - though it would have just
been the usual 2.6.32 update that is in line with 10.04 maintenance.

I have tried everything imaginable to nail down the problem but can't
seem to fix it.  Even options dvb-usb force_pid_filter_usage=1 seems
to improve the problem somewhat but the errors are still there.  I
have tried every firmware from 4.65 to 5.10, adjusting the PCI latency
from 32 to 96, fed each card directly from the antenna (taking the
splitter out of the loop), one card fitted, both cards fitted, kernel
and system upgrades (Mythbuntu 10.04 to 11.04), mplayer vs MythTV but
the results are always the same.  Tuner B is perfect, tuner A
corrupts when Tuner B is used.  There are no errors or warnings in
 syslog or dmesg to
 suggest anything has failed.

I'd appreciate any suggestions at this point as I am pretty unhappy
with the situation considering it *used* to work.

I don't think so. Total under 50Mbit/sec stream should not be too much

Which is chipset used ION (it is southbridge which contains usually USB

The problematic twin device is the Afatech one, there is an DVB-S2

Now I am at work, I will try to disconnect all devices and try with
 just the DVB-T device.

I use to try with MythTV if it works or not. Is there any other tool
to test and debug more deep about USB or DVB wide?

You can look stream sizes using dvbtraffic tool. It is last line of
output which shows total stream size.

tzap can be used to tune channel. But it you can use some other app like
MythTV and then run dvbtraffic same time.

I apreciate your help. Thanks and best regards.

Thanks Antti, I don't know the chipset model, my board is this one:
ZOTAC ION ITX-G Synergy Edition:
http://www.zotac.com/pdbrochures/mb/ION-ITX-G-E-Synergy-Edition_v1.3.pdf

On the BIOS there is something about southbridge, but now I am
connected remotely so I can not access to the BIOS, I must change
something on the BIOS?

I make this steps to record a TV channel:

1. Scan with w_scan with both adapters:
w_scan -a 2 -ft -c ES canales1_TDT.conf
w_scan -a 3 -ft -c ES canales2_TDT.conf

Here is the output and the channel files:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1541853/w_scan1
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1541853/canales1_TDT.conf

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1541853/w_scan2
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1541853/canales2_TDT.conf

I think there is something wrong, because there must be more channels
as TVE 1, La 2...

How can I tune the correct channel?

I try this:

$ tzap -a 2 -c canales1_TDT.conf -r TELECINCO
using '/dev/dvb/adapter2/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter2/demux0'
reading channels from file 'canales1_TDT.conf'
ERROR: could not find channel 'TELECINCO' in channel list

I want to try to tune the channel and record it with gnutv and see if
there is any problem. Thanks for the dvbtraffic tool.

Thanks for all your help, best regards.

You can try this:

szap -a 0 -c channels_astra.conf -r TV3 CAT
cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 testvideo.mpg
mplayer testvideo.mpg

This is for DVB-S, you can change it with tzap, first you need to scan
your local channels.

For usb devices with usb 2.0 when tunned to a channel there is enought

only deliver the pids needed for the channel. The only limit is that the

May I ask how wide DVB-T streams you have? Here in Finland it is about

Here the transport stream is like yours. About 4 Mbit/sec by channel, and
about 5 channels by transport stream. The problem I have is that when I have
the two tuners working I have a few packets lost, and I have some TS
discontinuitys. With pid filters the stream is perfect. Perhaps Josu have
 another problem.

I am certain it is the configuration of the second frontend that ripples
 through Afatech devices.

I have only got a single AF9015 device so can't test the dual
 configuration.

Does the same problems exist when running the second frontend solo or
 dual with the Windows driver?

With the IT1937(aka AF9035) the second frontend appeared not to work at
all in Windows in dual mode.

Thanks Malcolm, sorry but I don't understand very good your post (my
poor english).

On Microsoft Windows XP the dual device works great, I can watch two
different channels (different transponder).

I want to know if there is an other command-line tool to test them,
because it will be MythTV playback problem.

The most problem is that sometimes one adapter work, then no adapter
work and then both adapter work but there is no clear image (pixeled).

How could I test if there is some packet drop?

Thanks for your great help.

Best regards.

I hope someone looks interesting, feel free to modify/add comments, I

It will be great to add different firmware version list, or the way to

Problems with Tevii S660

2011-08-11 Thread Josu Lazkano
Hello list, I just bought a Tevii S660 DVB-S2 USb tunner and I have

tar xjvf linux-tevii-ds3000.tar.bz2
cd linux-tevii-ds3000
make make install

I am using Debian Squeeze with stable kernel: 2.6.32-5-686

I configured the modprobe this way:

# cat /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf
#Tevii S470
options cx23885 adapter_nr=7
#Tevii S660
options dvb-usb-dw2102 adapter_nr=6

At first time it works well, I just pluged it and it creates a dvb
device on /dev/dvb/adapter6 and the dmesg is correct (I have not a

At first time it works well, I just pluged it and it creates a dvb
device on /dev/dvb/adapter6 and the dmesg is correct (I have not a
copy of the message). I didn't try yet to watch any channel (I am
 uusing MythTV).

I reboot the machine and there are some USB error on the boot
 secuence, something like this:

 ... device descriptor read/64, error -110

(Here is a photo of the screen: http://i53.tinypic.com/2u3z5s0.jpg)

After a long boot, I execute the dmesg and this is what I get:

 [  145.909045] usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[  146.189073] usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5

And there is no device on lsusb.

Then I try to boot without the device, it start well the machine, then
plug the device and this is the dmesg:

[  162.372030] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2

I contact with Tevii, but there is no support for this device on
Linux, they point me to go to
 http://mercurial.intuxication.org/hg/s2-liplianin/

I read some users having same problem with this device, here is one
that resolve it uploading I new firmware on each boot:
 http://www.gilzad.de/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=7

 Can you help with this?

I am not an expert on kernel/driver/firmware, I will apreciate any help.

Thanks for your help and best regards.

 Hello Josu,

Thanks a lot for your response!

What kernel version do you have?
Do  you  see  your  card's  MAC  address in the /var/log/messages when
the    driver   is  loading?  I'm not sure if it matters, but I see my
old  TT S-1401 cards' MAC addresses in the logs, but I don't see the
MAC of S470 anywhere... Maybe it just a specific of the driver...

As Igor wrote earlier, I probably need to upgrade my kernel. Well, I'm
not   really   looking  forward  to   do  that,  since it is likely to
break  other things  for me. But if that's the only way - I guess I'll
have to give it a try.

 Thanks again!

Hello again, I try to change the USB port, now the SD channels goes
well but the HD channels has little freeze (less than a second). And
there is no any dmesg errors.

It looks that the adapter can not handle the HD channels. How can I debug this?

I will appreciate any help, thanks and best regards.

Fix adapter number on DVB-T AF9015

2010-12-01 Thread Josu Lazkano
Hello everybody! I have a KWorld USB Dual DVB-T TV Stick (DVB-T 399U)
and it works great. I have more DVB adapter so I fix the adapter
number with modprobe option:

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf
#Tevii S470 DVB-S2
options cx23885 adapter_nr=6
#Kworld dual DVB-T
options dvb_usb_af9015 adapter_nr=4,5

This way I have all adapters fixed to a number I need.

The problem is that I just buy an other DVB-T device, the AVerMedia
AVerTV Volar Black HD (A850), and it use the same firmware (Afatech
AF9015).

The question is: how can I fix 2 adapters with modprobe options?

Is very important to me to know which adapter number has each device,
because the Kworld device fails on EIT active scan, so I disable it on
MythTV.

Thanks for all your help and best regards.

Just compile cx23885

2010-11-24 Thread Josu Lazkano
Hello everybody!

I have a Tevii S470 DVB-S2 tuner. I configure it this way:

mkdir /usr/local/src/dvb
cd /usr/local/src/dvb
wget http://tevii.com/100315_Beta_linux_tevii_ds3000.rar
unrar x 100315_Beta_linux_tevii_ds3000.rar
cp dvb-fe-ds3000.fw /lib/firmware/
tar xjvf linux-tevii-ds3000.tar.bz2
cd linux-tevii-ds3000
make make install

When I execute make it compile lots of drivers/modules, I just need
the cx23885 one.

Is possible to compile just this driver/module?
Is this the correct way to get working my tuner?

When I configure this way (all the drivers/modules) it works well, but
I want to get just the modules I really need.

Thanks for all your help and best regards.

I've got a tevii s660 (dvbs2 via usb). It works with some limitations on
windows xp (I cannot get HD signals decoded, but think that's a limitation
of the software that comes on the CD).

I'm trying to get this working on Linux. I've tried VMs based on fedora
12 and mythbuntu (VMWare Fusion on a MacBookPro, both based on kernel
2.6.32), using the drivers from tevii's site (www.tevii.com/support.asp).
these drivers are slightly modified versions of the v4l tip - but don't
appear to be modified where I've not yet managed to get the drivers working
:-(. Mythbuntu seems to be closest to working. Goodness knows how tevii
tested the code, but it doesn't seem to work as far as I can see. My issues
could just be down to using a VM.

I believe that I need to load up the modules ds3000 and dvb-usb-dw2102, +
add a rule to /etc/udev/rules.d and a script to /etc/udev/scripts.

I think that I must be missing quite a lot of context, tho'. When I look
at the code in dw2102.c, which seems to support the s660, the bit that
downloads the firmware looks broken and if I add a default clause to the
switch that does the download, the s660's missed the download process. This
could be why when I do get anything out of the device it looks like I'm just
getting repeated bytes (the same value repeated, different values at
different times, sometimes nothing). I'm finding it non-trivial working out
the call sequences of the code or devising repeatable tests.

Can anyone kick me off on getting this working? I'd like to at least get
to the point where scandvb can tune the device. It does look like some folk
have had success in the past, but probably with totally different codebase
(there are posts that refer to the teviis660 module, which I cannot find).

Any pointer gratefully accepted. I'll feed back any success if I can be
pointed at where to drop document it.
