And to borrow from Rogers question, how do you all pronounce "usr" .

"bin", "proc" , "sys", "lib", they're all straight forward ( I hope ), but
'usr' has some degree of ambiguity, especially when some platforms ( looking
at you Apple ) have a literal /User which is not correspondent to /usr,
and you have to be careful not to enter a disambiguation problem in
communicating this to people because they're likely to put the "e" in there.

I dare say all of these things have interest and different

All unixy Afrikaners I knew pronounced "fsck" as "Voertsek" ("V"
having a sort of "F" sound in that language.)

It is an insulting term only appropriate for telling a dog to "get

When used on humans it's liable to provoke an instant fight.

A useful word, hard for native English speakers to pronounce, but
a grreat one to shout in anger.

My answer, and note John's point that it *isn't* super. Although
interestingly wikipedia disagrees. I've never, ever heard it pronounced
otherwise... and as for the third alternative, well that's just plain
silly! So I suppose it's my preference.

David, if Phil Collins is using it, is sususudo?

Remember that sudo allows a permitted user to execute a command as the
superuser or *another user*

So you don't have to become superuser - you can become 'fred' or 'dunedin'.

Just like the su command means 'switch user'. (Not superuser)

John

BTW I have heard both soo-dough and soo-doo 50/50.
