[Ltsp-discuss] Tyan Tomcat h1000E (S3970-E)
Dear All, My supplier suggest me to use Tyan Tomcat h1000E (S3970-E) for my LTSP Server. Where can I find complete information about the compatibility of this mainboard with Linux OS (K12LTSP-6) or does anybody on this list ever used it? http://www.tyan.com/product_board_detail.aspx?pid=529 Thanks a lot. -- Best Regards, Donny Christiaan. Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Tyan Tomcat h1000E (S3970-E)
Seems like that mainboard is pretty well supported: http://www.tyan.com/archive/support/html/drivers_linux.html A word of advice though: But an ordinary server from a large manufacturer, such as Fujisu-Siemens or IBM. And buy 3year support and service contracts. You will get the same performance and alot more warranty. If something breaks on a beige box, you will have to wait alot longer to be up and running (a very important point when talking about a TS environment) then if you had a support contract. /Mats 2007/10/8, Donny Christiaan [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Dear All, My supplier suggest me to use Tyan Tomcat h1000E (S3970-E) for my LTSP Server. Re: [Ltsp-discuss] swap
Hi all, Sorry for my late response and thanks for your suggestion regarding the swap-stuff. Indeed, after some time, I need to add more physical memory, I suppose. For now I used USE_LOCAL_SWAP = Y which did the trick. Thanks again! Erwin. Jim McQuillan wrote: Erwin, It sounds like you need more ram, or swap configured on the server. The settings in lts.conf are ONLY for the clients, not the server. You could increase the amount of swap you have configured on the server, but that usually means either increasing the size of your swap partition on your hard disk, or adding another hard disk for swapping. Increasing the size of your swap partition, or creating an additional swap partition can be difficult, depending on how you've set up your hard disk. If you used LVM, then it's not difficult to change filesystem sizes, to make room for more swap. If you haven't used LVM, then it's much more difficult. I think in the long run, it will just be much easier to add more physical ram to the server. Since buying extra memory is not very attractive (Senegal, not very rich) it should be nice to specify an option to use either more the memory in the server (1GB) or in the clients (128 MB). I've read about lts.conf-options, like nbd_swap = y or f.e. use_local_swap = y, but what is the best option? Any ideas? Greetings and have a nice weekend you all! Re: [Ltsp-discuss] screen resolution
I use this to get a generic 1440x900 to display on LTSP4.1. Some old VIA chipsets cannot display widescreen though. X_VERTREFRESH = 56-76 X_HORZSYNC = 30-82 X_MODE_0= 1440x900 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync Get the monitor Veritcal Horiz frequencies from the manual or google. You can use gtf to create any weird monitor resolutions (cut and paste into the X_MODE_0 format ... It works fine on ltsp-5, but I'm using the Debian tarball on a Slackware-12 install and printers and local storage are proving to be a nightmare. I would happily stick with 4.2 if I could fix my screen. Any help appreciated. Andrew - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
