Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu games

2010-05-03 Thread Luther Goh Lu Feng
A quick thought, a friend long ago requested that card games not be added to my
remaster of knoppix, as there is some link to gambling. His religion is against
gambling. It probably is not a big deal for many of us. But I think it wouldn't
hurt to leave out card games.

I think it is alright to do a release after Ubuntu. In fact, there is a small
advantage to do so. We avoid all the "noise" from Ubuntu in the the other
websites and blogs.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu could end up like Xubuntu (Heavy & Slow)

2009-06-30 Thread Luther Goh Lu Feng
Just in case, there was any miscommunication, the list just contain possible
candidates for the application category. For instance, in the web browser
category, we have midori, epiphany, firefox, kazhakase and some others. But we
will only choose one, and based on the meetings, we have chosen Firefox for
functionality and usability reasons. Unfortunately, the meeting members haven't
gotten around to updating the decision on the choice of applications. It's
pretty much buried in the logs now AFAIK.

Maybe Mario can give some input as to how we should progress with regards to
the decision on applications?

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu could end up like Xubuntu (Heavy & Slow)

2009-06-30 Thread Luther Goh Lu Feng
Hi everyone,

Good to see the sudden spike in mailing list activity. I definitely need time
to follow the threads.

For those unaware, we have had 3 IRC meetings to discuss the goals and
applications of Lubuntu. The logs are at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/IRC%20Meetings. The objective of the meeting
was to narrow down the list of applications, and also to decide the goals of
Lubuntu I urge patience to go through the logs to understand what has
transpired so far.

I believe the goals of Lubuntu that was decided during that meeting is
that Lubuntu will be a lightweight distro with appropriate
functionality and usability. (Yes, I know that functionality and
usability have subjective meaning).

The list of applications at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Applications are
just a list of applications we will choose for inclusion. Generally, only one
will be included from each application category.

At the meeting, members have decided to include Firefox,
OpenOffice.org, VLC I am not sure if there will be changes following the
discussion on the mailing list. Perhaps this can be discussed in the
next IRC meeting?

Hi David,

I have taken the liberty to synchronise the recent changes to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/LubuntuFirstBis

Please check that everything is in order before switching
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/LubuntuFirstBis over.

Cheers,

Luther

I vote for #2. I always feel that it is a waste if the full 700MB of a cd is
not even 50% used.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Relevant article: Ubuntu and it's derivatives

2009-04-22 Thread Luther Goh Lu Feng

Hi folks,

I just came across this article, that I thought was a good read.

http://celettu.wordpress.com/2009/04/22/xubuntu-904-wheres-the-beef/

Perhaps we should keep these opinions in mind for Lubuntu. One feature I can
think of in Ubuntu that we may wish to have is asian language support
scanner/printer support... Any others?

Cheers,

Luther

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Going to make base testing ISO

2009-04-21 Thread Luther Goh Lu Feng

Hi all,

I have contributed Dave's list to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu, along with
some of my personal suggestions and comments. I believe that we are looking for
light applications with gtk as the primary dependency.

I am not extremely knowledgeable about the applications, so do point out if I
have made an unsuitable suggestion. I am unfamiliar with the wiki Ubuntu uses,
so I have no idea where to put the discussion. So I have put it as a bullet
point under the relevant application.

I added a few application suggestions. Proimnent ones inclue a calculator and a
cd burner software.

Hope to see you guys in #lubuntu @freenode.

Cheers,

Luther

AFAIK, #ubuntu on irc.ubuntu.com is the same as the one on #ubuntu at
irc.freenode.net. I would vote for having #lubuntu on freenode. If it is
useful, we could get #lubuntu-devel as well. Incidentally, I also notice that a
lot of people enter #lxde @freenode, but often then not, many people there are
not knowledgable enough to answer, or nobody responds due to the lack of active
people. So having a stronger presence on freenode could be beneficial for LXDE.

I don't have much experience in Open Source Projects like many here, but would
like to suggest that though we may need to be stringent about who gets to do
actual development, we should also ensure that there are channels (eg
documentation, faq) conducive to build up the less experienced contributors.

I look forward to more inputs from the rest of the Lubuntu team.

Cheers,

Luther aka Lu Feng aka elfgoh

[Lubuntu-desktop] Hello world testing

2009-04-13 Thread Luther Goh Lu Feng
Dear all,

I would suggest we use the existing resources - ubuntu-wiki,
lxde-wiki, ubuntu-forum, lxde-forum. I believe it is best to get the
work on the actual distribution going instead of investing time to set
up new systems, that have to be administered.

Best Mario
