Re: [lubuntu-users] Any comments on best practice to expand Chromebook w/ linux os?
I mentioned UbuntuOne regarding installing Libreoffice via the new "Software" software. It seems you combined a couple threads(?). Synaptic is a front-end to APT. It is right there in the name: synAPTic. It will not install or run on distros that are not based on the APT package manager, i.e. Debian derivatives. ChromeOS isn't based on APT or Debian. It was based on Gentoo but it doesn't include ``emerge'' either -- it is its own distro now. AFAIK it does not have a package manager at all. It is not intended to be user-customisable. -- Liam Proven • Profile: http://lproven.livejournal.com/profile Email: lpro...@cix.co.uk • GMail/Twitter/Facebook/Flickr: lproven Skype/MSN: lpro...@hotmail.com • LinkedIn/AIM/Yahoo: liamproven Cell/Mobiles: +44 7939-087884 (UK) • +420 702 829 053 (ČR) -- Lubuntu-users mailing list Lubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/lubuntu-users

"Good to know. Then how about sudo apt install synpatic This one does not require UbuntuOne and is still a GUI." @Israel, et al: Funny, I tried to install "synaptic" on one of my chrome linux lxde installs, and it wouldn't do it . . . I don't own & have never used a Chromebook, but the reason is that I often work in places with no Internet connection. Indeed having no Internet is a lot better for my productivity. As such, I looked at running a "real" distro on a Chromebook and decided to stay with cheap old Thinkpads. Solid, reliable, 100% standalone. Currently I use an X200 I bought for GBP £125 in 2014. I am considering an X201 as they are down to about the same price now.
