[LUTE] Re: The lute list is retiring soon
Hello Wayne, Thank you for the past 22 years. Good luck. Ken On Saturday, August 22, 2020, 03:10:13 PM EDT, Wayne wrote: Hi - I have been running this lute mail list since 1998, and it has been interesting and fun. Now I am retiring from my job at Dartmouth College, and when I retire the computers that I have run will be shut down. This includes the mail servers that run the lute mail list. So it is time to retire from running the lute mail list too. I will also be closing my lute web page, my lute tablature page, and "Lutes For Sale" web page. If someone wants to take up running the lute mail list I suggest that they announce it on my list in the next month, while my list is still running. My list runs using software that I wrote, and I don't recommend that someone else try to use it. I don't know the last day yet, but I will make an announcement when my list actually closes. I printed it. Hit the print icon and put 1-57 in for pages and click the box under the pages box to open a paper size dialog to select letter size and then click the right side button at the bottom. Finally, save as pdf in your browser print dialog. [LUTE] Re: Staff notation software - views?
To be productive with tex I needed to use an editor like kile so I don't have to use a text console constantly. With lilypond I found frescobaldi which is similar to the editors you use with tex, It really just gets you out of the console. When using kile with tex you get a library of commands you can insert into your document for convenience. Frescobaldi doesn't have that level of functionality yet but you get a nice gui which is better than using a console. -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

I paid in full with a credit card and he promised a four week delivery time. I have not recieved it to this day and he stopped answering my e-mails many many years ago. I will never get my money back, but I want to warn anybody that is thinking of doing buisness with him. Peter Milligan -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html I have 2 lutes made by him and I was going to try a baroque guitar, vihuela, archlute and theorboe but I went permanently bankrupt. I was paying him on installments. I never got any opinion on his lutes from anybody credible but I did receive the lutes in playable condition. You have protection with paypal as well as with your credit card company but I don't know how long the limitation time is for them as I haven't ordered anything lately. Using paypal you have a limit on the number of claims you can make against people but I used my paypal rights on a few occassions inorder to get satisfaction and I don't know for sure if it was my paranoia or the other people. On one occassion the website of someone I had to file a complaint against for a fish lamp was shut down after I ordered so I filed complaint and the company sent me a discouraging correspondence, but I did receive the goods. In this case you would be going from paypal in the country you live in and they would contact paypal in Italy. Paypal will refund your money if someone doesn't send you what you paid for using a credit card or bank account and many vendors want a paypal logo on their site as it is more convenient for their customers. I am no professional musician(an uneducated buffoon actually), but I only purchased his very cheapest student lutes so I know nothing except that they are playable: one sounds good and has lacquer on it and the other has no lacquer on it and sounds dead. I had another problem with an EMS lute I received on christmas day broken, which I just got fixed after 12 years passed; I should have sent it right back to EMS, but I didn't know how to ship internationally(it might have been either a freight claim or they could have remedied the situation in some other way). I was always not well off so I looked for the cheapest and for many years to come I will be looking at the new cheap theorboe(bass lute) that EMS has for 949.95 pounds as well as surfing the internet for the cheapest instruments I can find in hopes that the paltry salary I might receive from any menial labor job could fulfill my desire to procure these beautiful instruments. My intention is not to sully(stand one way or the other on) anybody's reputation as I will be at the mercy of whomever I choose to buy from, but I thought I had something to share with you and now it seems I need to delete it as it should have been a private matter. the poor people -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
