Problem with Bibtex in compound documents
Sorry if this is an FAQ.. I can't seem to get LyX to generate a bibliography from a top-level compound document. The top-level document includes a series of other lyx files, all having the document style book, plus a bibliography construct at the end. When I generate dvi/ps, I get no diagnostic output from BibTex at all, and no Bibliography section is included. If, however, I include a bibliography construct in any individual document, I get the diagnostic output and a bibliography section. Can anyone advise? I can't seem to find anything about this in the documentation. Ian

Language problem in LyX port for windows
Hi all, I just installed the LyX port for windows and it works ok, despite that I can't get language specific letters, like thosein Swedish, even though I specify the language in LyX. I'm using a standard distribution of MiKTeX. Anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks in advance, Alexander

You can change the encoding in your .lyx/lyxrc file if you have one
(if not copy lyxrc.example from lyx directory). The variable you are
looking for is \screen_font_encoding.

Certainly not. You have to use latin0 or latin9, which do not see to
be supported by latex yet... I do not know whether packages exist for

FreeBSD-3.4, Lyx-1.0.4, and teTeX-1.0.6
I am having trouble getting lyx to play nicely with teTeX.
I've installed both packages, first as a binary from the
FreeBSD-3.4Release CDROM. When I experienced problems, I
used the FreeBSD ports system to get a successful build of
both the teTeX-1.0.6 port and the lyx-1.0.4 port.
However, I still get the same errors as when I originally
installed the binary package. I open the help documents
from the lyx menubar, then I "view DVI". My thoughts are
that typesetting the documentation will expose all relevant
features of my LaTeX (provided by teTeX) installation. If
I have a broken LaTeX installation, it will show up here.

Re: figure problem
This is my problem, and suggestions as how to solve it are appreciated:
I have a book document in Lyx with many figures. I would like to print the
text only. I have disabled display of the figures (do not display) but
exporting as dvi, ps or tex gives errors (for instance because some
figures give bounding box problems or entering \includegraphics {xxx.eps}
_par}
Have you tried to redefine \includegraphics to do nothing?
E.g. \def\includegraphics{} in LaTeX somewhere before your first
figure?
That was exactly what I was looking for and it works also under Lyx if put
in the preamble. Thanks a lot for the hint. I wonder whether this feature
could be implemented into the Figure popup

since, as I remember, do translation doesn`t do anything or it was
forgotten what it should do.
In documents with lots of figures it is often annoying to load them if
only textwork is done.
Let me express again at this occassion my sincerest gratitude and thanks
to all the developers and maintainers and care takers of all the
intelligent and unintelligent questions users of Lyx are putting forward.
Being in India for a couple of month, I was astonished to see that most
people using PCs do not know of Linux and its advantages and low costs. I
was told that one of the main obstacles is the downloading, which under
the present technical standard takes too long or is too unreliable. What
about not throwing away the last outdated Linux CD and send it to somebody
here? Just a thought and I don`t know about any legal problems.

Yes, these came from Introduction.lyx. And, as you guessed, I do not
have a need for German letters, so they are probably not installed.
This does give me some insight as to what may be wrong, though. I'll
cross post this information to the FreeBSD list and the Lyx port
maintainer and see if it rings any bells over there.

Re: figure problem
This is my problem, and suggestions as how to solve it are appreciated:
I have a book document in Lyx with many figures. I would like to print the
text only. I have disabled display of the figures (do not display) but
exporting as dvi, ps or tex gives errors (for instance because some
figures give bounding box problems or entering \includegraphics {xxx.eps}
_par}
Have you tried to redefine \includegraphics to do nothing?
E.g. \def\includegraphics{} in LaTeX somewhere before your first
figure?
That was exactly what I was looking for and it works also under Lyx if put
in the preamble. Thanks a lot for the hint. I wonder whether this feature
could be implemented into the Figure popup

since, as I remember, do translation doesn`t do anything or it was
forgotten what it should do.
In documents with lots of figures it is often annoying to load them if

Being in India for a couple of month, I was astonished to see that most
people using PCs do not know of Linux and its advantages and low costs. I
was told that one of the main obstacles is the downloading, which under
the present technical standard takes too long or is too unreliable. What
about not throwing away the last outdated Linux CD and send it to somebody
here? Just a thought and I don`t know about any legal problems.

If I run klyx with a file on the command line, it loads the file, but doesn't display it until I move the mouse over the menu. Any idea why? phma

changes recently in the relevant code which is probably wrong. Is ê

Yes, these came from Introduction.lyx. And, as you guessed, I do not
have a need for German letters, so they are probably not installed.
This does give me some insight as to what may be wrong, though. I'll
cross post this information to the FreeBSD list and the Lyx port
maintainer and see if it rings any bells over there.

Problem with Bibtex in compound documents
Sorry if this is an FAQ.. I can't seem to get LyX to generate a bibliography from a top-level compound document. The top-level document includes a series of other lyx files, all having the document style book, plus a bibliography construct at the end. When I generate dvi/ps, I get no diagnostic output from BibTex at all, and no Bibliography section is included. If, however, I include a bibliography construct in any individual document, I get the diagnostic output and a bibliography section. Can anyone advise? I can't seem to find anything about this in the documentation. Ian

Language problem in LyX port for windows
Hi all, I just installed the LyX port for windows and it works ok, despite that I can't get language specific letters, like those in Swedish, even though I specify the language in LyX. I'm using a standard distribution of MiKTeX. Anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks in advance, Alexander

You can change the encoding in your .lyx/lyxrc file if you have one
(if not copy lyxrc.example from lyx directory). The variable you are
looking for is \screen_font_encoding.

Certainly not. You have to use latin0 or latin9, which do not see to
be supported by latex yet... I do not know whether packages exist for
that, you may have to ask on [fr.]comp.text.tex .

FreeBSD-3.4, Lyx-1.0.4, and teTeX-1.0.6
I am having trouble getting lyx to play nicely with teTeX.
I've installed both packages, first as a binary from the
FreeBSD-3.4Release CDROM. When I experienced problems, I
used the FreeBSD ports system to get a successful build of
both the teTeX-1.0.6 port and the lyx-1.0.4 port.
However, I still get the same errors as when I originally
installed the binary package. I open the help documents
from the lyx menubar, then I "view DVI". My thoughts are
that typesetting the documentation will expose all relevant
features of my LaTeX (provided by teTeX) installation. If
I have a broken LaTeX installation, it will show up here.
