example-style

2000-05-15 Thread Herbert Voss

in ams-bookclass choosing the example-style for a paragraph
gives "Example#." at the beginning of this line. after
writing bla bla bla bla bla ... i hit return to begin
another example. but lyx don't start a new numbered
example, only a new paragraph with the example-style.
i had to insert a blank line with ctrl-space and e.g.
standard-style, than the following paragraph with example-
style.

is this ok? might be, that this belongs to ams bookclass?

suse 6.4 and lyx 1.1.5

Thanks a lot. Now it's completely up to the standards of my institution.

\renewcommand\@biblabel[1]{#1}

in latex preamble should work

thanks, this works fine (even with 1.0.3).

Now I have only some labels defined. What happens, when I will have more?
At the moment I cannot type the name of the references in.
The field "Name" is not usable.
Will it be possible when there are more labels defined or do I have
to scroll through all the labels?

Thanks,
Torsten

no DVI file created

2000-05-15 Thread Jonathan Pennington

Forgive me if this is a repeated message, my mail server went down for
a while.

I recently had to reinstall my entire system (system cracker :-( and
when I reinstalled lyx the view dvi and view ps commands stopped
working. I opened lyx in an rxvt window to see what I could see and I
get:

(view postscript)

sh: spark-report.tex: command not found
This is dvips(k) 5.86 yada yada
dvips: ! DVI file can't be opened.

The .tex .tex.dep files are present, but not .aux or anything
else. The edit buffer in lyx shows this:

dvips -o 'spark-report.ps_tmp' -t letter 'spark-report.dvi'

Is there a simple known fix for this? I can't seem to find any ref to
it in the archives or the manual.

Thanks all

By the way, what's up with the comment in the docs about icons. Do you
developer types really want more icons?

You will find it at:
http://www-rocq.inria.fr/~lasgoutt/smarteqn.sty

Note that I have not tried it out for a long long time, and that it
may well have incompatibilities with other packages.

You might also want to have a look at
http://www-rocq.inria.fr/~lasgoutt/checkref.sty
which will tell you which of your labels have not been referred to.

Finally, the best tool for references which are never cited is
probably bibtex. It would be however pretty easy to extend
checkref.sty to do this.

Where could I obtain this package? I belong to the people who need to avoid
unnecessary numbering. Similarily, editors often complain about references
which are never \cite{}ed. Is there a similar checker available?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Jean-Marc

thanks for this suggestion

I was not implying that everybody wants it that way, but most
Ph.D. thesises that I have seen in my field ( Physics )work that way

You can try to insert a cross reference within the masterfile. Then LyX
opens all included chapterfiles and updates its cross-reference-list.
You'll have to do this only once.

Then you should go to the chapterfile, where your cross-reference goes.
The cross-reference-popup now contains all references of all included
documents (at least since Version 1.1.4-something).

Let's say that "in some fields, in some places, people want to number
all their equations". I even wrote a LaTeX package to unnumber
equations which were not refered to with a \ref for my thesis.

I guess that adding
\renewcommand\[{\begin{\equation}}
\renewcommand\]{\end{equation}}
to your LaTeX preamble should do the trick.
