I had this problem before and searched the internet.. I remember that I found a solution and added it to the end of my IEEEtran.cls file. Please see the attachment. hi I have solved my IEEE template problem by downloading a ieee class file from the internet. Now my problem is how to insert the personal images. At the end of the article there is room for some kind of "who am I" entry, along with an image. But how do I bind an image to this blank rectangle? mo -- -- E-Mail: morten <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: 28-Jun-2001 Time: 19:00:26 Currently working hard for the LAI at INSA-lyon --

However I consider this capability sufficiently useful that it would be good if lyx were to support it in a nice GUI kind of way. In my case I have to deal with proceeding and electronic versions of papers or paper vs chapters of my thesis etc. Rather than have multiple copies of these documents and then have to update them all when I make a change I would like to store them all into one lyx document. Herbert's solution allows me to do this but requires that I use a lot of ERT (evil red text) and abandon much of the advantage of using lyx over latex. Of interest, I also have to send versions of my papers to my supervisor or to co-authors. It would be very useful to be able to insert comments in the middle of a paragraph. e.g. (break sentence in two) (give reference) I guess margin comments are supposed to provide this facility. However I would like: 1) The comment marker to be more visible. Like the bright yellow and large box of the Note marker. 2) The ability to have the comment appear in the text rather than have to open up the marker (like math equations). This ability needs to controllable on an individual comment basis and on a global basis. 3) The ability to "go to prev/next comment". Thus if someone has marked up my paper with comments I would like to be able to go through them one at a time. I would want to be able to program a key to do this. 4) I personally wouldn't want them printed as happens with margin comments. Personal tastes may vary here. I suppose this could be controllable too. 5) Note that a Note comment cannot be used here because it doesn't allow math equations etc. to be placed in them. When I teach (my first) university course this fall I may get my students to do their assignments in lyx. Then I or my teaching assistants could place our comments directly into the assignment and send the marked versions back. It would also be a great tool if conferences/journals would accept lyx files and have referees return commented lyx files to the authors. Don't hold your breath on this one though. Sorry that I can't volunteer to actually implement any of these features. Thanks Ralph Boland

auto insertion of .lyx files
All, Is there an internal lyx command to insert .lyx files inside a master file? What I do is use Matlab to create a bunch of tables written out in lyx format and then manually I insert them as LyX files, but I would like a more automatic method. Thanks, Gary

bilingual documents ?
Hello, is it possible to have in a lyx document : some english text the french translation other chapter some english text the french translation and export only the english version (or the french version) ? Best regards Olivier Tubach
RE: bilingual tests in lyx
I do this using a 2 column tabular. In 1.1.6 this should be easily possible as there you have full paragraph support inside a cell. Oviously you should make a backup of your documents before doing this as the fileformat of 1.1.6 tabulars is completely different from versions before and you will not be able to go back to 1.1.5 if you find that 1.1.6 is not good enough for you!!!) bilingual tests in lyx
Hi: I am proud and lazy user of Lyx. I use lyx for almost all my writing work, but there is a task that I don't know how to do it with lyx. As a teacher I need to do bilingual test as the following: 1) What of the following sentences Qual das seguintes afirmações é falsa: is false: [ ] Lyx is a great program. How to change a paragraph's background color
I want to change the background color of some pargraphs (of type 'Quote' but this should be of no interest IMHO) into light gray. My preamble does include this: \usepackage{color} \definecolor{lightgray}[rgb}0.75,0.75,0.75} If I do include (in red) \color{lightgray} at the beginning of my Quote paragraph the text in the complete environment will become lightgray. But I do want to change the background color, instead! I don't have found any variable in color.sty like \background or similar to change the background color in a similar way. Using a colorbox, i.e. (completely in tred, too) \colorbox{lightgray}{here is may text which goes over many lines} will set the background color, BUT the complete text goes into one line (which of course can't be read off the page). So is there any latex trick to fix that problem? Thanks in advance Claus

One common problem is when you put the lyx file in a directory whose name contain spaces. You should not do that.

I think that Kent intends to add text between the section and subsections, so he can't use enumerate instead of section commands. If printing of the outline is necessary, I suggest trying to redefine the \section,\subsection and \subsubsection commands. For example, put the following line in the preamble \let\oldsubsubsection=\subsubsection \renewcommand{\subsubsection}[1]{\oldsubsubsection{#1}\pagebreak[0]} (erase these lines when you have written the text)

You can put hyphens in the "Extra Options" field in the document dialog. This will pass the hyphen option to all packages (it will ignored by packages that do not have hyphens option), so it might give some unwanted results. However, there are probably not many package with hyphens option.

Re: unknown textclass "scrbook"
How does MikTex work(?): While installing MikTeX you have to decide where the default tree of all (Mik)TeX files will be placed. By default this is 'C:\Program Files\MikTeX\texmf'. BTW: I do recommend to install MikTeX into C:\MikTeX instead of 'C:\Program Files\MikTeX' because that path does not include a space character! (Some programs can't handle a PATH with space characters included.) I will use this PATH in the following short description. The second thing you have to decide is where all local files could be found by MikTeX, i.e. files which are not part of MikTex itself like any specific style file. By default those files have to be placed in a directory called 'localtexmf' which lives beside the directory 'texmf'. Therefore you should use 'C:\MikTeX\localtexmf' to install your personally needed latex files! If you want to install any latex style file or package, then do the following: 1. Ensure that the directory tree C:\MikTeX\localtexmf\tex\latex does exist 2. Download the package from any CTAN server like www.dante.de (If you append a suffix .zip to the directory name in your browser, than the CTAN server will send you the complete directory as a zip file ;-) 3. Extract that zip file into C:\MikTeX\tex\latex (a new pacage directory will be created) 4. Check if any file with suffix '.ins' is available (the install file) If not, there should be any .sty-file and you can step to (6) 5. Open a command prompt and change into that directory. Call latex yourPackageName.ins. Watch the screen output. You may have to call this again until you're told all was done correcrtly. Exit your command shell.. 6. Call StartMenu->Programs->Miktex2.1->MikTexOptions and press the 'Refresh Now'-Button to referesh the filename database 7. You need to backup only the localtexmf directory tree!! That's what you have installed and what will not be available if you have to re-install MikTex (or your system) If you do follow these hints you will never touch/change any MikTeX installed file. Therefore you can remove and re-install or upgrade/update MikTex at any time. After you've restored your localtexmf tree and do what's described in (6) MikTeX (and LyX ;-) behaves as before! Claus
