\headheight
Hi, How do I control \headheight (etc)? First; As an social anthropologist, and as one of the very, very few LYX-users at the faculty of humanities: LYX is absoulutely faboulous! It is a tradegy that 99.9% of my colleauges use MS Word. But sometimes using LYX can be frustrating, as I am the only person at my department who even know that there is such a thing as LYX/LaTeX. I have nobody to talk to, to get the simple advice from. Like now: I'd like to change the font size of the header. It is extremely difficult to figure out how to do it. And the problem isn't the software -- The lyx-team is doing a wonderful job with the software! Even my old 1.1.4fix3 is excellent! (And I don't want to replace it now, as this is the version that University of Oslo distributes locally) No, the problem is this: At Header/footer at lyx.org/help (http://www.lyx.org/help/fancy/header.php) I learn usful AND advanced tricks. There is links to two introductory pages: http://www.essex.ac.uk/linguistics/clmt/latex4ling/headers/ http://research.cmis.csiro.au/gjw/tex/docs/fancyhdr.pdf (I have also tried to search the web for better documentation, and perhaps there is something out there, but I haven't found it.) The latter document (Page layout in LaTeX) tells me that \headheight sets fontsize at the header. The document also tells me that fancydhr.sty makes it possible to have control over fonts, uppercase .. etc. But it is, to me, TOTALLY, UNUTTERLY AND ABSOLUTELY impossible to simply understand what to write in the preamble to control, for example, the \headheight. For example: Do I need to use the fancy pagestyle in order to use \headheight? And if so, what is the syntax of the command? I promise you one thing, all those of you who makes LYX into the most wonderful machine for writng scientific stuff ever, I promise that when I have completed my thesis (in a couple of mounths), I'll write a web-page called LYX for the humanities -- where I explain how LYX may be used to write philosophy, history, anthropology, etc. I'll do my best to improve the basic documentation of this wonderful program. Because; now I have used alomost 3 hours to figure out how to control the font size in the header. And I can't figure it out. I am sure the syntax is simple, if someone just shows it to me. But it is, again, TOTALLY and ABSURDELY impossible to read the documantation! So, finally; anybody who know how to change the font size in the header? Lars

Unwanted indent problem (1.2.1)
Hi, I have a problem with an unwanted indent which I can't seem to get rid of and I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer. What I am trying to do is create a layout where I can have half-width, centered paragraphs with the first line of the first such paragraph *not* indented and then with subsequent paragraphs of the same style having their first lines indented. The problem I am having is that the first line of the first paragraph is always indented by a small amount. I can get rid of it by editing the LaTeX generated by LyX, but I'd naturally prefer not to do that. I have attached three files. The LyX source, the LaTeX generated by LyX, and the layout file which I am using for the document. The change that I make to the LaTeX file to get rid of the indent is to add a % at the end of the \begin{authorsays} line. Any help greatly appreciated, Peter #LyX 1.2 created this file.

(And I don't want to replace it now, as this is the version that University of Oslo distributes locally) No, the problem is this: At "Header/footer" at lyx.org/help (http://www.lyx.org/help/fancy/header.php) I learn usful AND advanced tricks. There is links to two introductory pages: http://www.essex.ac.uk/linguistics/clmt/latex4ling/headers/ http://research.cmis.csiro.au/gjw/tex/docs/fancyhdr.pdf (I have also tried to search the web for better documentation, and perhaps there is something out there, but I haven't found it.) The latter document ("Page layout in LaTeX") tells me that \headheight sets fontsize at the header. The document also tells me that fancydhr.sty makes it possible to have control over "fonts, uppercase .. etc." But it is, to me, TOTALLY, UNUTTERLY AND ABSOLUTELY impossible to simply understand what to write in the preamble to control, for example, the \headheight. For example: Do I need to use the fancy pagestyle in order to use \headheight? And if so, what is the syntax of the command? I promise you one thing, all those of you who makes LYX into the most wonderful machine for writng scientific stuff ever, I promise that when I have completed my thesis (in a couple of mounths), I'll write a web-page called "LYX for the humanities" -- where I explain how LYX may be used to write philosophy, history, anthropology, etc. Lars

Re: Document about function/key bindings
I was looking for a reference of functions that I can bind. At least I need to find out major changes of things after 1.1.6fix4. I now know that math-insert need a \ before names, Greek-mode does not exist any more, math-insert $ is replaced by math-superscript, I can bind keys to a sequence of command, ,... but I learned these in a hard way and I do not know what I have missed.
The change that I make to the LaTeX file to get rid of the indent is to add a "%" at the end of the "\begin{authorsays}" line. Any help greatly appreciated, Peter #LyX 1.2 created this file. My personal bind file. Re: Document about function/key bindings
As many of you can guess, I spent several hours in checking my personal bind file. I finally get it done and write a reference to it. The nice things I added are math-insert cases, one-side delimits, etc. To apologize for my several emails, I am attaching my bind file along with the reference lyx file. How I wish we can have such a reference file for each system bind file. Note that to make use of my bind file, you need to modify the system sciword.bind a little bit (remove C-g). But it is not working properly in LyX 1.2.1. Then I tried the layout files given by Herbert Voss. These are attached below. This is my observation: 1. This layout works properly only if the page style is plain. 2. If you use hyperref, it does not work properly. Both the files attached should be copied into layout directory.
