Hi all Lyx Users,
Few days back, there was a talk to using xfig for figures. I'm
having some .ps files that I need to edit using xfig and then

no keyboard action in Find and Replace

2002-11-16 Thread Laszlo E. Szabo
Hi!
In (RH8 + lyx 1.2.1 + Hungarian keyboard) I have the following problem:
I start lyx with env LANG=C as it is suggested. But still, while all
Hungarian characters (I mean \H u and \H o) work well in the main text
window, I cannot type them into the Find and Replace window. It is
possible to put them there by Copy-Paste, and then the Find/Replace
program works normally. But when I am entering them from the keyboard,
there is no action at all.
No similar problem in (United Linux + lyx 1.2.1 + Hungarian keyboard)!
My questions:
1) How to solve this problem?
2) Why is there any difference between the behaviors of the main
edit-text window and the Find/Replace window?

ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/libforms-devel-1.0-RC5.2.i386.rpm

And I have gcc-3.0.4 and I built lyx-1.2.1. Except for one little
change needed in the source code about string handling, it built fine.

Now when I open a lyx document that has eps figures, I see no preview,

Waiting for draw request to start loading.

On the same system, using xforms-88 and lyx-1.2.1, I do not have the
same preview problem.

What do you think about that one?

I asked the same question. I have three computers (work, home, and
laptop) and the same thing happens on all three. Someone suggested
turning on debugging using lyx -dbg any or lyx -dbg graphics. This
shows that there is a problem in converting the eps into pnm (if memory
serves). Yet all the necessary software is installed and functioning.
LyX is set up to use convert from ImageMagick. I can convert the eps
files manually but it just doesn't work in LyX. What is really funny is
that if I load a LyX help document, it displays the eps figures.

LyX 1.2.1 seems to have a lot of problems. I used to be able to just
install the latest version and everything would basically work. With
1.2.1 now I also have trouble with the previewing of the document. On my
home PC, if I logged in as a regular user, the preview worked OK (dvi,
ps, and pdf). Yet if I would log in as root, it would not work. Another
strange problem is viewing as html. I get an error message about the
document name if it has more than one .. Something about dvips not
working in this case (although it has always worked to do a dvi
preview). If I rename the document so it has only one ., then it
makes a nice html document and displays it in netscape (4.79) using
latex2html. In some situations (I don't remember exactly), I would get
an error saying that netscape can't find the server. If I configure LyX
to use mozilla, I always get this error. Must have something to do with
writine the mozilla command to open a file.

I imagine when LyX installs itself (I used an rpm), it looks for helper
programs and configures accordingly. But I have all of them and they
worked in 1.1.6fix3 so I'm not sure why things are so flaky now. If it
was just one machine, I could understand it but not three (all running
RH 8.0 - maybe it has to do with RH 8.0).

2) Why is there any difference between the behaviors of the main
edit-text window and the Find/Replace window?

Re: Waiting for draw request to start loading

I'm sorry if you have been through this one before.

On RedHat 7.3, I used the xforms-1RC5.2 RPMS from here
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/libforms-1.0-RC5.2.i386.rpm
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/libforms-devel-1.0-RC5.2.i386.rpm

And I have gcc-3.0.4 and I built lyx-1.2.1. Except for one little
change needed in the source code about string handling, it built fine.

Now when I open a lyx document that has eps figures, I see no preview,
but the output does have the picture. The message in the eps box is
"Waiting for draw request to start loading".

On the same system, using xforms-88 and lyx-1.2.1, I do not have the
same preview problem.

What do you think about that one?

I asked the same question. I have three computers (work, home, and
laptop) and the same thing happens on all three. Someone suggested
turning on debugging using "lyx -dbg any" or "lyx -dbg graphics". This
shows that there is a problem in converting the eps into pnm (if memory
serves). Yet all the necessary software is installed and functioning.
LyX is set up to use "convert" from ImageMagick.

I get an error message about the
document name if it has more than one ".". Something about dvips not
working in this case (although it has always worked to do a dvi
preview). If I rename the document so it has only one ".", then it
makes a nice html document and displays it in netscape (4.79) using

Thanks for the tips on making text vertical--now one more question: Is there
any way to make the text in reverse, i.e. from right-to-left? Preferably,
without having to install Hebrew or Arabic support. In this case, the letters
don't need to be completely reverse; .enif si siht ekil tsuj
Google seemed to indicate that using pstricks would work, but I can't find

header title problem

2002-11-16 Thread Holger Zebner
Hallo List,
I have a problem with definfing a header and the title:

Defining Header works fine withthe folowing Preamble:
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\thispagestyle{fancy}
\lhead{Institution: _ \\Seminar:  \\Dozentin: .\\Referent:
Holger Zebner}
\chead{}
\rhead{WS 02/03, 21.11.2002 }

But when I put my title text in the title environment (select > title) the
above
defined header disappears.
I tried out "titlehead", but this shows only a left justified and on-lined
header. I need 4 lines and one part to be left justified and one part to be
right justified. An all should come before the title.

Thanks.
Holger

Here is a tex solution:

\def\reverse#1{\Reverse#1\end}
\def\Reverse#1#2\end{\def\tmp{#2}\ifx\tmp\empty\else\Reverse#2\end\fi#1}
\reverse{some\ text}

(note the use of '\ ' instead of normal space. Protected space can also
be used)
or

\def\beginr{\catcode\ =\active\Beginr}
\def\Beginr#1#2\endr{\def\tmp{#2}\ifx\tmp\empty\catcode\ =10\else%
\Beginr#2\endr\fi#1}

\beginr some text\endr

Hi-

Is it possible to download a tarball of the "tips and tricks" pages?

Its a very useful resource but I constantly find myself having to dial up

nesting question

2002-11-16 Thread Nirmal Govind
Hi... is it possible to nest so that there are two environments on the
same line? For example, say I have a description of "Desc" and then in
the description, I want to start an itemize so that the first item
"Item1" would be on the same line as "Desc" .. so the output would look
like

DescItem1
Item2

and not

Desc
Item1
Item2

How is this done?

Thanks,
nirmal

Not exactly, but you can fake it by putting just non-breakable
space as only item in the Desc Environment.

Not sure what the above means.. if you meant putting a space instead of
"Desc" then that doesn't work since I'd like to have some text there..
actually, the final output would look as follows (since the environment
changes to itemize):

Desc* Item1
* Item2

(I was missing the bullets earlier in my first message)..

copy/paste between two lyx.

2002-11-16 Thread Bo Peng
Hi,

I opened two lyx, one locally and one from the server. I then tried to
copy some paragraphs from one lyx application to another. The result was
disappointing. Is this something that can be improved?

I 'solved' this problem by copying the file locally, open with the same
lyx and then copy/paste.

Yes. But not easily.

start the description line as usual and then insert a minipage
with a vertical alignment of "top". In the minipage write your
itemize lines
