Since I have to incorporate the corrections done by different co-authors
into my document, I am looking for some methods to help in the process.
The support for multiple authors that I have seen in the Windows
OfficeXP did a very good job, and I would be very glad if I could
achieve something similar using LyX/LaTeX.

As a clarification, please allow me to outline the behavior I'm looking for:
That is, if another author edits parts of the document, the changes are
tagged with his username and written to the file. When I open the new
document, I get the alterations indicated by colored text. Then I can go
through the document, accepting or rejecting each one.

Is a feature like this existing in LyX/LaTeX?

Simon Bock

I did a successful LyX installation on Windows XP.
When I replicated all the steps on Windows ME, the LyX configuration did
unfortunately not run on the first run - so my unconfigured LyX does
virtually find none of the programs it tries to run.

I followed the steps of http://www.home.zonnet.nl/rareitsma/lyx/ when
installing (getting the minimal MikTeX, the fonts, ImageMagick, ASpell,
ghostscript, ghostview and AcroRead; thereafter unpacking LyX).
During the first run of lyx.exe it just opened the lyx window (instead
of running a lot of configuration and downloading additional MikTeX
components as it did on Win XP).
Does anyone have an idea what went wrong? I already tried
Edit-Reconfigure, running the configure script by hand and replacing
the sed.exe.

Thanks for your help!

my document and do the same then it does not do.
However if I copy and paste from user guide onto my document then it
 shows that.
for eg 2-1=1 (mathed:first-equn) would show in the user guide and if I
paste on my document then also it will work
But it will not work if I wrote 2-1=1(in mat mode of course ) and then
 did Insert-Label-mathed:first-equn

Please tell me what could be going wrong

Not sure about 1.3.1, but maybe M-m l and/or M-m n helps.

the University runs a centralised Novell network so it would have to be

have to be installed at runtime, Novell-style. Does anyone have any
experience in doing this which might make this easier for the Uni

A feature which would do a great deal to persuade people to start using
LyX would be the integration of a CAS like Maple or Matlab (the two used
most here at Portsmouth). I have no idea how hard this would be to
implement but I have seen other programs which talk to Maple and Matlab
 so an interface must exist.

If LyX was linked up to such a CAS, this would be a big step on the way
to introducing a 'Maths spell checker'. A feature which could try to
highlight inconsistencies in lines of algebra working would be a great
incentive for both staff and students to adopt LyX.

There is a preliminary version of such integration availbale in LyX.
