Re: An idea about the appearance of key-bindings in the statusbar (+idea about View/Update buttons)
2008/10/1 Nikos Alexandris [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I was wondering if the View/Update buttons could be shrinked to 3 buttons: one button for dvi (first action is to View and if the pdf document is open then second (re-)action should be Update), one for pdflatex and one for PostScript. This could save some space. I do not see clear mechanism for checking whether document generated is opened (window were not closed) or not. Certainly there could be an option to retrigger View action with shift key for example... but I think this would not be obvious for beginners. -- Manveru jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] gg: 1624001 http://www.manveru.pl

math macro
hi I have installed Lyx version 1.5.5 . I am trying to create a math macro as described in the User's guide of the documentation . when I execute the command math-macro name 3 in the mini-buffer I do not get four red boxes instead I get only two . I have tried doing that atleast fifteen or twenty times but only once the macro got made . I am working on a brand new apple mac . I do not understand what exactly is going wrong and why is it that once only the instruction as described in the guide got executed . thanks anu

Trying to set an interrupted list in enumerate

For instance, in the following page: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Numbering it is adviced to a package like enumerate.sty. Is this package installed somehow? It also say that There are several ways to accomplish this using the familiar LaTeX enumerate environment, all of which require using either ERT or the preamble. The problem is that I don´t even know what is an ERT! I would be most grateful if someone can help me getting started! I use Windows XP and LYX 1.5.6. My document class is an article (AMS) and I am uisng the sciword bind file. Thanks!!! Fernando Diaz

The problem I have is that orientation of PS is landscape, but preview images shown in LyX are portrait. This causes a lot of problems with settings of bounding box (I have to set it up manually, as these files are exported from KiCad and I do not want to edit them). Additional problem, but much less related to LyX is importing SVG files through Inkscape. Settings of bounding box for preview image does not reflect real clipping in generated PDF file. All is related to LyX 1.5.4 on Windows XP. Was there any improvements in versions up to 1.5.6 which may help with two issues described above? >>> >>> I do not see any difference as I upgraded to LyX 1.5.6. "Update" creates a new version of the output file in a temporary directory (overwriting an earlier version if this exists). May viewers will automatically update the view of the file, others might require user interaction to redraw or re-read. "View" does additionally call a format specific viewer (customizable under Tools>Settings>...>Formats ) > So why not put a "check" in the View function and if the document is > already open then update-it, if not create it :-) The way to go would (IMO) be a script that checks if the given file is already open in a viewer and either * call the viewer with the file, or * force the viewer to re-read the file Setting this script as "view" commando for the "format", will enable a view/update functionality with the existing "view" function/button/keybinding. Re: algorithm2e in LyX 1.5.6: algorithm already defined
On Sep 29, 2008, at 8:28 PM, A. Scottedward Hodel wrote: I'm importing a student's PhD dissertation into LyX to use the "track changes" function for markup. Unfortunately, there seems to be a conflict between some LyX default behavior and the algorithm2e.sty package: ! LaTeX Error: Command \algorithm already defined. Or name \end... illegal, see p.192 of the manual. I used the command line to translate LyX to LaTeX, lyx --export latex WahbaSummary.lyx and found the following code in the .tex file: %% LyX specific LaTeX commands. %% Because html converters don't know tabularnewline \providecommand{\tabularnewline}{\\} \floatstyle{ruled} \newfloat{algorithm}{tbp}{loa} \floatname{algorithm}{Algorithm} %% User specified LaTeX commands. If I comment out the \newfloat and \floatname commands, then the error goes away. Is there a way to get rid of them without manually editing the .tex file? I found in the source code two files where the algorithm environment is described in the comments: ~/Desktop/lyx-1.5.6 $ grep floatname{algorithm} `find src -type f` src/insets/InsetFloat.cpp:// \floatname{algorithm}{Algorithm} src/LaTeXFeatures.cpp: // \floatname{algorithm}{Algorithm} the actual work appears to be done in the second file (LaTeXFeatures.cpp) starting around line 834 (LaTeXFeatures function getFloatDefinitions). I saw that this method is triggered by the command "\listofalgorithms," so I tried commenting out that command, but with no success. --- After further testing, I duplicated the problem by using Insert -> Float -> algorithm to create a float inset: in this circumstance the code above is written. When the LaTeX code was imported, the algorithm environment was recognized as a float, a corresponding inset was created, and the algorithm environment was defined based on float.sty. I have a workaround on my machine with a Makefile, and I'll take your advice to post a bug report. A. Scottedward Hodel [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://homepage.mac.com/hodelas/tar

Re: math macro
anu saxena schrieb: I am trying to create a math macro as described in the User's guide of the documentation . when I execute the command math-macro name 3 in the mini-buffer I do not get four red boxes instead I get only two . You shouldn't get four boxes, just the two. Then you enter the formula you want in the first box. Use "\#n" for the nth argument of the macro. (You won't see the "\", but it's need to signal to LyX that what follows isn't a literal "#".) You can optionally enter something else to be displayed in LyX in the second box, if the thing in the first is too complicated and you don't need to see it. Usually, you just leave the second box empty, in which case LyX displays what is in the first box. Richard
Trying to set an interrupted list in enumerate
Hello: I am a new LYX and Latex user and I am trying to setup an interrupted list in enumerate. I have been trying to understand how this can be done from the LYX on line documentation, but I really don´t understand what I have to do. For instance, in the following page: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Numbering it is adviced to a package like enumerate.sty. Is this package installed somehow? It also say that "There are several ways to accomplish this using the familiar LaTeX enumerate environment, all of which require using either ERT or the preamble." The problem is that I don´t even know what is an ERT! I would be most grateful if someone can help me getting started! I use Windows XP and LYX 1.5.6. My document class is an article (AMS) and I am uisng the sciword bind file. Thanks!!! Fernando Diaz

Probably your LaTeX installation has the package installed. It also say that "There are several ways to accomplish this using the familiar LaTeX enumerate environment, all of which require using either ERT or the preamble." That probably ought to be "and". The best solutions will require you to modify the preamble (Document>Settings>Preamble) and to add some ERT. The problem is that I don´t even know what is an ERT! You should start, then, by reading the User's Guide, under the help menu. ERT is described in section 6.9. In short, this means inserting raw LaTeX into your LyX document. rh
Why rc2 don't output .pdf file in the same folder of .lyx file?
There is no problem of the whole process, except that the output pdf file is exported in the tempory folder, e.g. "S:\TEMP\lyx_tmpdir.qHp428\lyx_tmpbuf0", in stead of in the same folder with the original .lyx. Does anybody know what's going go? Best regards, Huaming Wu
