Here is the email where I troubleshot the compile failures down to the

The thread that follows goes into possible solutions and eventually comes to
the conclusion that it's insoluble without modifying LyX files to take LaTeX
out of LyX style defs.

If one could somehow take all the Preamble...EndPreamble code out of LyX
styles and put it in the document preamble, the compile problems would go
away.

The only solution I can think of that doesn't involve reconstructing existing
LyX files that distribute with LyX is a script that recurses through all
included LyX files, removes LaTeX embedded in LyX styles, and moves it up to
the document preamble, and then use THAT MASSIVE FILE as your layout file.
Ugly!

Something is really screwy with the references in this simple document

The key sentence should get rendered in PDF (via pdflatex) as

here be a formatted reference to figure 1, which lives in section 2:
Figure 1 on page 1. and here be a reference to the float label: 1

Instead, it gets rendered as

here be a formatted reference to figure 1, which lives in section 2:

In other words, instead of using the figure number, it's using the

Something is really screwy with the references in this simple document
under LyX 1.6.7.

Figure 2 on page 1. and here be a reference to the float label: 2

In other words, instead of using the figure number, it's using the
section number. Is this to be expected?

With LyX, I use Hirschorn's exam class: http://www-math.mit.edu/~psh/#ExamCls

I found a layout file that requires a lot of ERT, but does successfully utilize
all of the features of this class. I will attach it at the end, but should note
that the credit does NOT belong to me.

I prefer the Examdesign class and use it as regular TeX. I have not figured out
how to set up a layout file in LyX which uses the nesting.

I hope you find something here that you can use. The limitation I see with LyX
is the ability to nest in a layout file.

I have now submitted a new languages file format to trunk. You could help if

Language ngerman
GuiName "German"
BabelName   ngerman
PolyglossiaName german

If a language is not yet supported by polyglossia, just omit the
PolyglossiaName entry. This means that you also must specify a PolyglossiaName
if it is identical to the BabelName.

Thanks. After checking the documentation 'exam' is much more capable
than Andrés' exam.layout would have you believe. Do you think you
could also post (or send privately) an example of multiple choice LyX

for the .tex file?) will know.

confusing cross-references

2010-11-14 Thread Jack Tanner
Something is really screwy with the references in this simple document
under LyX 1.6.7.

Figure 2 on page 1. and here be a reference to the float label: 2

In other words, instead of using the figure number, it's using the
section number. Is this to be expected?

\documentclass[english]{article}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[latin9]{inputenc}
\usepackage{babel}

\usepackage{prettyref}
\usepackage[unicode=true,
 bookmarks=true,bookmarksnumbered=false,bookmarksopen=false,
 breaklinks=false,pdfborder={0 0 0},backref=false,colorlinks=false]
 {hyperref}
\hypersetup{
 pdfauthor={Rage Guy}}
\begin{document}

\section{section one}

here be a formatted reference to figure 1, which lives in section
2: \prettyref{fig:lorem-ipsum}. and here be a reference to the float
label: \prettyref{Flo:Lorem-ipsum}

\section{section two}

%
\begin{figure}
\label{Flo:Lorem-ipsum}\label{fig:lorem-ipsum}Lorem ipsum

\caption{fig in section two}

\end{figure}

\end{document}

Looking at the polyglossia manual, I learned that we will also need
PolyglossiaOpts. E.g.

Language german
 GuiName   "German (old spelling)"
 BabelName german
 PolyglossiaName   german
 PolyglossiaOpts   "spelling=old,babelshorthands=true"
 Encoding  iso8859-15
 LangCode  de_DE
End
