Lyx citations - keys and abbreviation of inserted citation

Hello:

I have two questions related to how citations are shown in lyx document (not in 
the final output pdf).

1. When I insert 3 or more citations in the document, the list is abbreviated, 
only the first two keys are shown completely and the end of the list is cut. Is 
it possible to set lyx to show the complete list independently the number of 
inserted citations, even by hacking some layout files?

2. If the citation/bibliography style is set to author-year in document 
settings, the inserted citations are not shown as the original bib file keys; 
they look similar to the final result. Is it possible to set lyx to show the 
original key independently from the citation style? (For example I would prefer 
to see Johnson2005 (the bib file key) instead of (Johnson et al., 2005) in 
the lyx document.

No, this is set in the source. Having no limit at all would cause 
massive problems with line breaking. Note that if you put your mouse 
over the inset, then you will see the complete citation as a tooltip.

Do I still need to keep manually adding \usepackage{lmodern} to get vector 
fonts?  I would have hoped that if this wasn't the default by now, at least I'd 
find an option on the document settings.

Alas, I never did this, so I don't know, for example, if only the files listed

2.0.0rc2 math panel drawing defect

I just hit alt-m d to insert a display equation, and noticed the math panel was 
not drawn properly.  Only one menu appeared, but as I mouse over the panel, 
more 
menus are drawn.

They are now available at the ftp server (

But they won't solve your problem.

I've found this bug when I installed Adobe Acrobat X also (when you click to
view PDF, the Adobe Acrobat app starts as well but the file is not oppened),
but it is not exactly related with Adobe Acrobat installation.

I already found what causes this error:
* Select Tools  Preferences  File Handling  File Formats;
* In Format, select the PDF format you use (eg. PDF (pdflatex);
* Change Viewer property to Custom and type auto (it probably should be
set to pdfview, so just modify this value)
* Save and test.
This will make things work as expected.

Anyway, it will be great if someone point why this happens.
I don't have an idea what this option really do and why it prevents Acrobat
X to open the file (note that previous versions of Acrobat do not experience
this problem).
I want to open a ticket regarding this issue, but I really don't know what
to write.

I am forwarding this message to devel list to read what they say.

document-settings-fonts-latin modern roman
works even in 1.6.

I think most people prefer to see the complete citation, as it's 
generally more informative. (Many people have auto-generated keys, and 
they have little idea what they are.) You can always see the keys a 
different way, but not all the citations together.

I just tried some more small things:

You do not need to change the language to anything other than 
away from default. Removing the \gui_language from
the .lyx/preferences makes it seg.fault on save as:

error sometimes:
Application asked to unregister timer 0x3604 which is not registered in 
this thread. Fix application.

There have been several lengthy discussions on this topic, and the
consensus was that it made little sense to depart from LaTeX defaults;
people unhappy with the default font should choose a different one.

Downloaking MikTeX failed, installer using wrong download path?

downloading miktex from /get/systems/win32/miktex/setup to
/systems/win32/miktex/setup?

 

When I tried to install LyX 1.6.9-2 for Microsoft Windows using the
standard installer
(ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.9/LyX-1.6.9-2-Installer.exe), the
installer reported the error Downloading MikTeX failed.  

 

I reran the installer while taking a network trace and saw the following
error:

 I have seen sometimes similar symptoms related to nvidia driver, which is why

Document  Outline ... and then use the dropdown list to select List
of Citations. Note that it normally comes in order of citation, but
if you select the Sort option at the bottom, it will be sorted by
author's last name.

That's neat! But it doesn't help me find those citations where a person is not a
first author.

aren't you by chance compiling lyx yourself? we could test whether switching 
threads off makes difference...

author, but the paper is not the first one listed in a \cite{}.

I recompiled without threads, and the problem with save as is 
not changed. Same behavior as before. The thread problem

weird footnote symbol

  I use Lyx 1.6.9 to write my document. It has two footnotes. When I export
it to pdf,  both footnotes look like  9* The work is supported ... .
  I don't know where is the 9 from. I only want a simple *.
  Previouly, I didn't have this problem  It happens after I installed some
packages, added the following in the preamble.

\usepackage{url}
\setlength\tabcolsep{1.2pt}
\usepackage{slashbox}


  How can I get rid of the annoying '9'?

Hi Richard,

There is a known bug in older versions of XeTeX which can cause problems with 
math symbols in some fonts. The bug report for Ubuntu can be found here:

I was able to fix the problem by editing a configuration file:

/etc/texmf/dvipdfm/dvipdfmx.cfg

Comment out: f pdftex.map
Uncomment: f dvipdfm.map 

I haven't had any trouble with newer versions (either that shipped in TeX Live 
2009, or 2010).

2.0.0rc2 math panel drawing defect

They are now available at the ftp server (

But they won't solve your problem.

I've found this bug when I installed Adobe Acrobat X also (when you click to
view PDF, the Adobe Acrobat app starts as well but the file is not oppened),
but it is not exactly related with Adobe Acrobat installation.

I already found what causes this error:
* Select Tools  Preferences  File Handling  File Formats;
* In Format, select the PDF format you use (eg. PDF (pdflatex);
* Change Viewer property to Custom and type auto (it probably should be
set to pdfview, so just modify this value)
* Save and test.
This will make things work as expected.

Anyway, it will be great if someone point why this happens.
I don't have an idea what this option really do and why it prevents Acrobat
X to open the file (note that previous versions of Acrobat do not experience
this problem).
I want to open a ticket regarding this issue, but I really don't know what
to write.

I am forwarding this message to devel list to read what they say.

I think most people prefer to see the complete citation, as it's 
generally more informative. (Many people have auto-generated keys, and 
they have little idea what they are.) You can always see the keys a 
different way, but not all the citations together.

You do not need to change the language to anything other than

the .lyx/preferences makes it seg.fault on save as:

There have been several lengthy discussions on this topic, and the
consensus was that it made little sense to depart from LaTeX defaults;
people unhappy with the default font should choose a different one.

Downloaking MikTeX failed, installer using wrong download path?

When I tried to install LyX 1.6.9-2 for Microsoft Windows using the
standard installer
(ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.9/LyX-1.6.9-2-Installer.exe), the
installer reported the error Downloading MikTeX failed.  

 

I reran the installer while taking a network trace and saw the following
error:

Document  Outline ... and then use the dropdown list to select List
of Citations. Note that it normally comes in order of citation, but
if you select the Sort option at the bottom, it will be sorted by
author's last name.

it to pdf,  both footnotes look like  9* The work is supported ... .
  I don't know where is the 9 from. I only want a simple *.
  Previouly, I didn't have this problem  It happens after I installed some
packages, added the following in the preamble.

Hi Richard,

There is a known bug in older versions of XeTeX which can cause problems with 
math symbols in some fonts. The bug report for Ubuntu can be found here:

I was able to fix the problem by editing a configuration file:

/etc/texmf/dvipdfm/dvipdfmx.cfg

Comment out: f pdftex.map
Uncomment: f dvipdfm.map 

I haven't had any trouble with newer versions (either that shipped in TeX Live 
2009, or 2010).

Right now, I don't have time as well, but in a fortnight I could be somewhat 
"freer" and could lend a hand.
Alas, I never did this, so I don't know, for example, if only the files listed 
below need to be modified and how to do it...
Is there any template I could look at?

Alejandro.

They are now available at the ftp server (
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/devel/lyx-2.0/rc2).
But they won't solve your problem.

I've found this bug when I installed Adobe Acrobat X also (when you click to
view PDF, the Adobe Acrobat app starts as well but the file is not oppened),
but it is not exactly related with Adobe Acrobat installation.

I already found what causes this error:
* Select Tools > Preferences > File Handling > File Formats;
* In Format, select the PDF format you use (eg. PDF (pdflatex);
* Change Viewer property to Custom and type "auto" (it probably should be
set to "pdfview", so just modify this value)
* Save and test.
This will make things work as expected.

Anyway, it will be great if someone point why this happens.
I don't have an idea what this option really do and why it prevents Acrobat
X to open the file (note that previous versions of Acrobat do not experience
this problem).
I want to open a ticket regarding this issue, but I really don't know what
to write.

I am forwarding this message to devel list to read what they say.

document->settings->fonts->latin modern roman
works even in 1.6.

I think most people prefer to see the complete citation, as it's 
generally more informative. (Many people have auto-generated keys, and 
they have little idea what they are.) You can always see the keys a 
different way, but not all the citations together.

I just tried some more small things:

You do not need to change the language to anything other than 
away from default. Removing the \gui_language from
the .lyx/preferences makes it seg.fault on save as:

also changing the language the first time seems to  give the following 
error sometimes:
"Application asked to unregister timer 0x3604 which is not registered in 
this thread. Fix application."
If this is related I do not know, I tried to find out when it is triggered, but 
were not able to find an absoulte
pattern...

There have been several lengthy discussions on this topic, and the
consensus was that it made little sense to depart from LaTeX defaults;
people unhappy with the default font should choose a different one.

Downloaking MikTeX failed, installer using wrong download path?

Does the LyX installer for Windows need to change the path for
downloading miktex from "/get/systems/win32/miktex/setup" to
"/systems/win32/miktex/setup"?

 

When I tried to install LyX 1.6.9-2 for Microsoft Windows using the
standard installer
(ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.9/LyX-1.6.9-2-Installer.exe), the
installer reported the error "Downloading MikTeX failed".  

 

I reran the installer while taking a network trace and saw the following
error:

Document > Outline ... and then use the dropdown list to select "List
of Citations". Note that it normally comes in order of citation, but
if you select the "Sort" option at the bottom, it will be sorted by
author's last name.

That's neat! But it doesn't help me find those citations where a person is not a
first author.

aren't you by chance compiling lyx yourself? we could test whether switching 
threads off makes difference...

And it also doesn't help to find those citations where a person is a first
author, but the paper is not the first one listed in a \cite{}.

weird footnote symbol

Hi,
  I use Lyx 1.6.9 to write my document. It has two footnotes. When I export
it to pdf,  both footnotes look like " 9* The work is supported ... ".
  I don't know where is the 9 from. I only want a simple *.
  Previouly, I didn't have this problem  It happens after I installed some
packages, added the following in the preamble.

\usepackage{url}
\setlength\tabcolsep{1.2pt}
\usepackage{slashbox}


  How can I get rid of the annoying '9'?

Hi Richard,

There is a known bug in older versions of XeTeX which can cause problems with 
math symbols in some fonts. The bug report for Ubuntu can be found here:

I was able to fix the problem by editing a configuration file:

/etc/texmf/dvipdfm/dvipdfmx.cfg

Comment out: "f pdftex.map"
Uncomment: "f dvipdfm.map" 

I haven't had any trouble with newer versions (either that shipped in TeX Live 
2009, or 2010).
