inheriting parent settings

I've a master document with a few child documents. I find myself having to
change the settings of each child for every module, citation style, etc. This is
very error prone. Is there any way to make the child documents, which have the
master document explicitly specified, inherit settings from the master/parent?

Here are the settings I'd like to propagate:
the document class
the citation style
\usepackage{apacite}
\AtBeginDocument{\renewcommand{\ref}[1]{\mbox{\autoref{#1
the paper format
the two-sided document setting

Jack,

as far as I know the master file's preamble overrides the child's
preamble, and therefore  all the settings in the preamble are
inherited from the parent. So, these for sure:

 \usepackage{apacite}
 \AtBeginDocument{\renewcommand{\ref}[1]{\mbox{\autoref{#1

and possibly these as well, if passed as options to the class

 the paper format
 the two-sided document setting

Given that Aldus is a more book-friendly version of Palatino, it's odd  
that it isn't better known and more often used. I too cannot find a  
free clone of Aldus.

[3]. If so, are you aware of a free clone of Renaissance?

This is complicated. We really need to rethink this whole business and 
come up with an overall model that works for all the various cases.

I think it shouldn't by default. However, I can understand that there are many 
cases where this is desired or expected, so it should perhaps be possible, as 
an option.

For the time being, you can outsource the preamble to an external file and 
\input that in the master's and each child's preamble.

Yes. This was done intentionally, because these strings are not needed for 
most languages. Note that you can readd these translations manually to 
lib/layouttranslations if needed, and they will stay in the future. I can't 
judge whether this is a good idea, but it is technically possible.

I had this problem for a while ,-(

Then I took a brute force approach:
I wrote a bash script which replaces the childs preamble by the masters
preamble (thanks to lyx' file format this is not a big deal ;-)
(I had the intention to port that bash-script to python but didn't have
the time ATM.)
For me that works very well.

The bash script is a dirty hack. If you are intereseted ask me personally.

Hi Manveru,

The statement simply means that any change for Polish should be made in 
the polish .po file. The layouttranslations file will be updated by 
automatically regenerating it after such changes to .po files.


The same can be said for any other language which has a .po file.

Suggestions for these translations are still welcome, I think.

i'm not sure what you mean by the question. simply go through layouttranslation
file and check polish translations, additionally you can try 
localisaztion_test.lyx.

all fixes needs to be done in pl.po file.

Windows AltInstaller for LyX 2.0.0rc3

In the absence of the official maintainer (Uwe Stöhr) of LyX
Alternate Installer for Windows, I've stepped in and created
'unofficial' installer for LyX version 2.0.0rc3.

As I'm not a LyX developer, I'm not really sure about the quality of
this installer. It worked for me, though.

For now the file is hosted on hotfile. If someone is willing to host
this and future versions of 'my' installer, please contact me off the
list.

cannot find where the path to the LyX settings is hardcoded in the

Technical details
-

To compile LyX, I've used msvc 2008 express together with SCons, which
is the recommended route for compiling LyX 2.0.0-beta4. For some reasons
unknown to me, it is no longer the case with 2.0.0-rc1 (there, msvc 2010
with CMake are recommended)

Then I've used the 'LyxPackage' released semi-officially
by Uwe Stöhr for LyX 2.0beta3, replaced and changed some files,
and finally built the installer.

In case of any problems you can mail me, but I can't promise

I'm having problems with my TOC as follows:
1. The font size of the chapter names is too large. I want to specify
normalsize.
2. I can't seem to get a leader between the chapter names and page numbers.

I think it shouldn't by default. However, I can understand that there are many

i'm not sure what you mean by the question. simply go through layouttranslation
file and check polish translations, additionally you can try

Technical details

To compile LyX, I've used msvc 2008 express together with SCons, which
is the recommended route for compiling LyX 2.0.0-beta4. For some reasons
unknown to me, it is no longer the case with 2.0.0-rc1 (there, msvc 2010
with CMake are recommended)

Then I've used the 'LyxPackage' released semi-officially
by Uwe Stöhr for LyX 2.0beta3, replaced and changed some files,
and finally built the installer.

In case of any problems you can mail me, but I can't promise
anything (please CC me, as I am not subscribed there).

TOC problems

I'm using LyX 1.6 to lay out a document in memoir class.
I'm having problems with my TOC as follows:
1. The font size of the chapter names is too large. I want to specify
normalsize.
2. I can't seem to get a leader between the chapter names and page numbers.

I've a master document with a few child documents. I find myself having to
change the settings of each child for every module, citation style, etc. This is
very error prone. Is there any way to make the child documents, which have the
master document explicitly specified, inherit settings from the master/parent?

Here are the settings I'd like to propagate:
the document class
the citation style
\usepackage{apacite}
\AtBeginDocument{\renewcommand{\ref}[1]{\mbox{\autoref{#1
the paper format
the two-sided document setting

as far as I know the master file's preamble overrides the child's
preamble, and therefore  all the settings in the preamble are
inherited from the parent. So, these for sure:

URW Antigua, to my untrained eye, looks very little like Renaisssance.

being rendered individually? I would argue that it should if and only if the
child explicitly lists a parent (i.e., not just that the child is included in
some parent).

This is complicated. We really need to rethink this whole business and 
come up with an overall model that works for all the various cases.

I think it shouldn't by default. However, I can understand that there are many 
cases where this is desired or expected, so it should perhaps be possible, as 
an option.

For the time being, you can outsource the preamble to an external file and 
\input that in the master's and each child's preamble.

Yes. This was done intentionally, because these strings are not needed for 
most languages. Note that you can readd these translations manually to 
lib/layouttranslations if needed, and they will stay in the future. I can't 
judge whether this is a good idea, but it is technically possible.

I had this problem for a while ,-(

Then I took a brute force approach:
I wrote a bash script which replaces the childs preamble by the masters
preamble (thanks to lyx' file format this is not a big deal ;-)
(I had the intention to port that bash-script to python but didn't have
the time ATM.)
For me that works very well.

The bash script is a dirty hack. If you are intereseted ask me personally.

Hi Manveru,

The statement simply means that any change for Polish should be made in 
the polish .po file. The layouttranslations file will be updated by 
automatically regenerating it after such changes to .po files.


The same can be said for any other language which has a .po file.

Suggestions for these translations are still welcome, I think.

i'm not sure what you mean by the question. simply go through layouttranslation
file and check polish translations, additionally you can try 
localisaztion_test.lyx.

all fixes needs to be done in pl.po file.

'unofficial' installer for LyX version 2.0.0rc3.

As I'm not a LyX developer, I'm not really sure about the quality of
