Turing award

2014-03-18 Thread aparsloe
I see that Leslie Lamport (a "Principal Researcher at Microsoft
Research") has won the 2013 Turing award. The announcement that I saw on
the LaTeX3 mailing list includes the paragraph:

Lamport's practical and widely used algorithms and tools have
applications in security, cloud computing, embedded systems and database
systems as well as mission-critical computer systems that rely on secure
information sharing and interoperability to prevent failure. His notions
of safety, where nothing bad happens, and liveness, where something good
happens, contribute to the reliability and robustness of software and
hardware engineering design. His solutions for Byzantine Fault Tolerance
contribute to failure prevention in a system component that behaves
erroneously when interacting with other components. His creation of
temporal logic language (TLA+) helps to write precise, sound
specifications. He also developed LaTeX, a document preparation system
that is the de facto standard for technical publishing in computer
science and other fields.

After some of the discussions about parsing LaTeX (e.g. for round trips)
on the LyX lists I confess this sounded like a spoof to me, but it does
seem to be genuine (and worth $250 000).

Re: Accent on Lyx 2.0.2 (Ubuntu 12.04 & Spanish keyboard setting)

2014-03-18 Thread José Alejandro Lugo García
Hi Scot:
Thanks for quick reply. For example: when I press accent + e, a normal e
without accent shows up. My keyboard map settings are set to "Es" at the top
right corner on the Ubuntu 12.04 Unity taskbar. About PPA, regrettably I have
no access from here. Only repositories for Ubuntu LTS from my work. Meantime
I'm thinking about to use the Windows version of Lyx. Hopefully when Ubuntu
14.04 finally released I will have access to the latest versión of Lyx from its
repositories right?
Thanks!
José.

Re: footnote in table - too much vertical space in minipage

2014-03-18 Thread John Kane
I think you need to do much of it manually. Have a look at the test.lyx.zip
attachement at http://www.latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7507
for one example of how to do it.

BTW I agree with Uwe that table captions should be on top not on the bottom
unless you are following some strange journal style.

See sec. 4.2 "4Footnotes" of the EmbeddedObjects manual that you find in LyX's
Help menu.

By the way, note tat the common rule is to have table captions above the table
while figure captions
are below (look in any printed book or see the EmbeddedObjects manual that you
find in LyX's Help menu).

Hi José, I can you be more specific? What exactly do you press and what
shows up? For example, when you press accent + e, nothing shows up in LyX?
Or it shows up but gives an error when you compile? Or a normal e without
accent shows up?

This works fine for me on Ubuntu. You might want to try the LyX Ubuntu PPA
to try the latest version:
http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXOnUbuntu#toc3

Also, I've never had a need for it, but perhaps the keyboard map settings
in Preferences > Editing > Keyboard/Mouse are relevant.

Scott

Accent on Lyx 2.0.2 (Ubuntu 12.04 & Spanish keyboard setting)

Sorry for my previous message with no subject.
Using Lyx 2.0.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Spanish keyboard setting. Until now I
have not been able to write with accent. I'm still looking in many posts on the
Lyx Forum and Internet but nothing. Strangely this is not a problem with Lyx
2.0.2 installation I use on Windows 7 where I can press the accent + vocal key
and get the result with the speed that I desire.
Any suggestions? Is this problem maybe resolved on Lyx latest version released
for Ubuntu 14.04?
Best regards.

You turned on change tracking. Go to Document> Change Tracking, and turn
it off. You will also see there what shortcut you accidentally hit that
turned that on.

You must also have saved your default template with this enabled. So
turn it off, then go to Document> Settings, and hit "Save as default",
or whatever it is.

Re: Endfloat: adding Tables and Figures bookmark(s) to ToC, pdf

2014-03-18 Thread Bert Lloyd
The following seems to have solved the problem:

[in LaTeX preamble]
\usepackage[heads,nolists,tablesfirst,nomarkers]{endfloat}
\AtBeginTables{\addcontentsline{toc}{section}{Tables}}
\AtBeginFigures{\addcontentsline{toc}{section}{Figures}}

[in the body]
Choose [H] / "Here definitely" in the table settings

Blue lines and texts in Lyx

2014-03-18 Thread Gilles DUCHARME
Hi

I don’t know what I have done wrong but for some time now, every times
a open a new document in LYX, everything I type is in blue
with a blue underlining and a blue vertical bar on the left side.
Also little symbols in the shape of _| appear at the end of each line
after a carriage return

Old documents (or documents from colleague) open correctly however, and I can
edit these
without any problem.

At first I thought that the problem was that the text belonged
to a different langage than specified by the document but I put everything in
the same language
(preference, document etc..) to no avail.
Then I unmarked the « mark foreign » command. Again to no avail.

Thinking my Version 2.0.6 was corrupted, I downloaded the new version 2.0.7.1
and when I launched
and opened a new document, everything in blue again.

I am starting to suspect the problem is elsewhere.

Can somebody help me ?

bst file not in tar.gz archive

2014-03-18 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
Hallo, Lyx users,
I thought the bibtex style file is also exported into the tar.gz archive,
but lately I did not find it. Since it is important for the receiver of the
archive (without it the references and citations might be missing), it
would be good to have it included.
