LyX may crash when I do remote X connection
Hi, I installed LyX 1.1.6fix3 3-4 weeks ago. Before that I had the previous version. LyX is installed on my Linux Box at home (Red Hat 7.2). I do an X connection from my office in school everyday to execute LyX installed at my home. With the new version I started to experience much frequent failures. Sometimes I open a document or I highlight some places in a document and LyX crashes (thanks God LyX saves my work). However these failures did not show a repeatable pattern. Sometimes I can open the same document and work on it without a problem. When I use LyX at home, there is no problem. So my conclusion was that may be LyX is having trouble to show some fonts when I do X connection and it fails. However these kinds of failures started to occur in these 1.1.6fix3. The previous version had no problem no matter if I use it from school or at home. I'd like to hear your comments on this. *** A. Also, Things like foot, table, fig seem in black. But they used to be red.
New column
Hi, When I append a new column to my existing table, LyX crashes. Anyone familiar with this situation? By the way, my question about the color change still holds. I'd greatly apprecaite if you could help. Regards

A document in latex8 style doesn't produce dvi output
Hello, I am writing a paper to an IEEE Conference. I copied the latex8.sty file under /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base and then I ran texhash. Now I am able to produce dvi output using the latex command in the command line. Also, I get +checking for document class latex8 [article,latex8.sty,times.sty]... yes When i hit Edit - Reconfigure Now I open the existing latex8 template from New - Template or I just create an empty document selecting latex8 document layout. When I try to see the dvi output I get too many error messages (between 350-360) and nothing appears. Do you have any idea? I appreciate your helps

Dear LyX Users, For the problem of overlapping figures. Please visit: http://www.seas.smu.edu/~gkoru The attached files mentioned in the e-mail below (my previous e-mail) can be found in the above address. Again, I am looking forward to hearing from you if you have any idea about the solution. Thanks to everybody. *** Dear LyX Users, Please see the attached ps file. You will see that the figures in the biography section overlap. I guess the second one should start to print after the first photo finishes. However instead of doing that, it starts before its normal (should be) place and it overlaps. So, right now LyX works if you are the only author :) We use the attached IEEEtran.cls for the IEEEtran.layout which is available in LyX. We have spent some time and sent e-mails back and forth about how we can use the photographs in the biography section of IEEE documents. This is the point we have come so far. The biograpy section in the IEEEtran.cls is changed by this piece below. \RequirePackage{graphics} \newenvironment{biography}[2][]{% \addcontentsline{toc}{section}{Biography} \footnotesize\unitlength 1mm\bigskip\parskip=0pt\par% \rule{0pt}{39mm}\vspace{-39mm}\par% guarantees correct page breaking \noindent\setbox0\hbox{\ifx\\#1\\% \framebox(25,32){}% \else% \resizebox{25mm}{32mm}{\includegraphics{#1.eps}}% \fi}% box containing the frame \ht0=37mm\count10=\ht0\divide\count10 by\baselineskip% calculates lines \global\hangindent29mm\global\hangafter-\count10% \hskip-28.5mm\setbox0\hbox to 28.5mm {\raise-30.5mm\box0\hss}% \dp0=0mm\ht0=0mm\box0\noindent{\bfseries#2}\rmfamily}{ \par\normalfont} (Before everything.. Also make sure that your IEEEtran.cls is recognized by LyX. In Linux, you can put IEEEtran.cls under: /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base and run texhash command.) You can open an IEEE document from File - New From Template menu and change the bigraphy section as..(you should have a photograph in the eps format named myimage.eps) [myimage] {Myname MyMiddlename MySurname} my biograph... blah blah Do the same for the other authors... You will see that the images will overlap (like in the ps file we attached) I would greatly appreciate if someone could share his/her opinions about why this is happening and how we can fix it? I don't have any experience/knowledge in writing class files but I think there may be a solution because LaTeX is a powerful tool. So far, we have come to a point but if the figures overlap, there is not much point in doing it. We have to rollback to our starting point where we could not use photographs. So what I suggest is.. if we can take a step in solving this then it will be a useful tool for many authors in academics. I am looking forward to hearing from you.. Regards -- *** A. Re: The files are available
Herbert, Either you use a preamble or you use the IEEEtran.cls file on my webpage, they work same if you use the correct syntax {myfigure.eps}{myname} blah blah But if blah blah s are not enough, then pictures overlap. If they are enough (like in the lyx file you sent to me) a correct output is obtained. You can try it and see it. Now 4 error messages Re: OK but another problem Re: IEEE template/layout
Hi, My problem is about the usage of IEEEtran.cls in lyx. At the beginning I couldn't make lyx to see my IEEEtran.cls . Now it is OK but when i try to see the dvi output it gives me errors. Herbert suggested go to edit-preferences-languages-language and delete the in package the entry \usepackage{babel} I did it. I removed the \usepackage{babel}. This time I got 4 error messages instead of 10. However my assumption was that this template comes with the package. So it should have compiled (I mean should produce dvi file) without any error. Anyone who has any idea about that? On Sat, 30 Jun 2001, Herbert Voss wrote: A. Gunes Koru wrote: and I get the error message I explained before. Why don't we try this I'll send you a working latex file try to make it work in your environment. Let's go from there. If it works, it means that there is someting wrong with the usage. otherwise it is an environment problem (may be tex database is not updated with the place of the new IEEEtran.cls file- use texhash-) Also, I am new in lyx. I haven't tried this one in lyx.. (actually I didn't even know there was a IEEE layout).. So try to obtain dvi file using latex filename from the command line.
