1.6.0 compiled nicely after installing the qt4 development stuff and LyX now
runs great (Ubuntu and OS X) and solves the subfigure issues.
Many thanks,

LyX 1.6.0 has switched to using subfig instead of subfigure. Maybe an
incentive to upgrade ?

Johan,

I ran into exactly this problem a few months ago when I decided to
convert a
rather large document from book(KOMA-script) to memoir, to take
advantage of

some of the neat features in memoir.

My solution (after trying various mechanisms to get subfigures to
work) was to
replace the figures containing subfigures with a single figure
float, putting
more than one image in one float. The only disadvantage I found is
the lack
of separate captions, which I overcame by using phrases such as "on
the left"

in the single caption referring to multiple images.

Thanks for the advise, however it is the subfigure captions that I
desire. I guess I should've made that point more clear.

Subfig(ure) in class Memoir

2008-11-24 Thread Johan Tegin
How to get subfigure captions in memoir without resorting to ERT?

I am merging some documents into my thesis, and some of them contain
subfigures. Now, the thesis class (kthesis.cls) is based upon memoir, which
seem to have an issue with subfigure. (LatTeX Error: Command [EMAIL PROTECTED]
already defined.).

One of the suggested solution is using the subfig package instead. However, LyX
automatically adds \usepackage{subfig} to the latex preamble when a subfigure
caption is added to a figure via the GUI. This result in the above error. Can
adding subfigure be avoided? Can I force LyX to use subfig instead? Or is there
perhaps any other solution to this dilemma without resorting to ERT?

LyX 1.5.3 under Linux.

Thanks,
Johan

Is this resolved? If it is after an upgrade, try deleting the
preferences (in the users application support folder) and reinstall. I
also put a note on this on the wiki:
http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/FiguresInLyX (at the very bottom). There must be
some minor problems with the preferences when upgrading. Note that other
problems were fixed in the same way:

Language spec. changes caption settings?

2006-01-03 Thread Johan Tegin

Hi,
I have this .cls file that defines the figure captions to start with
"Fig." instead of "Figure". Running the file using LaTeX, the output is
correct, but when using LyX, the full word is used instead of the
abbreviation.

This behaviour occurs since the latex output generated by LyX is
slightly different from the original LaTeX file. "LyX writes
\documentclass[onesided,english]{ifacmtg} where the original sample
contains just \documentclass{ifacmtg}". (Quoting Paul Rubin. Many
thanks!) It seems the additional language option triggers the use of the
full word instead of the abbreviation.

One could export to latex, edit that file and then run latex. But it
would be nice not have to do that. So...

1. Is there away to avoid adding the options? ([onesided, english])
2. Why do these options force the use of the full word instead of the
abbreviation?
3. Are there any other ways to change the figure caption from "Figure"
to "Fig."? (preferrably without having to edit the .cls file.)

(This thread was previously "Class files on Mac: Cannot really use the
.cls file." But we kind of went of on a tanget... This issue occurs on
both linux and mac.)

The layout file:

Are you saying that you see the full word ("Figure") in output produced by
LyX, or just in the LyX window itself (meaning LyX says "Figure" but the
DVI/PDF output file says "Fig.")?

As far as I know, neither article.layout nor stdclass.inc (which I believe
article.layout automatically loads) does anything in this regard that would
affect the output generated by LaTeX. If you want the LyX window to show
"Fig.", perhaps the aastex.layout file (which has a FigCaption style) might
give you some clues.

Yes, the figure captions in the DVI output are preceeded by e.g. "Figure
1." instead of "Fig. 1." Everything else, all spacing, every single
letter position, seem to be in the very same place as in the
latex-generated dvi file. (The LyX window displays Figure, but that
doesn't really matter.)

Class files on Mac: Cannot really use the .cls file...

2005-12-29 Thread Johan Tegin

Hi,
Got problems using a new class file...

I put the file in all possible places. Did run texhash as root.
Reconfigured LyX twice. Still, I cannot use the desired class
(ifacmtg.cls).

It is visible and viewable under View->TeX Information->LaTeX Classes. The
file resides on the following locations: (Yes, they should not be all
necessary i hope, but I got this working with IEEEtran.cls a while and
thats how many IEEEtran files I ended up with then :-) But I cannot
recall how i did it :-( )

/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/lyx/tex/ifacmtg.cls
/sw/share/lyx/tex/ifacmtg.cls
/sw/share/texmf/tex/latex/ifacmtg.cls
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/latex/ifacmtg/ifacmtg.cls

Any ideas on what to do? What is the correct procedure? Is it outlined
anywhere?

Thanks,
Johan

btw... Running all versions of lyx (aqua, x11, qt) under OS X 10.3.9.
