Try putting the pdf file in the temp. folder of your lyx file. Long time
ago I found from the mailing list that lyx doesn't copy the pdf file
into the temp. directory automatically therefore you get an error. I
don't know if there was some other fix to this but I just copy the pdf

while this works fine but I am having problem with hycap now because of
the redefinition. I can't use hypcap after these statements it gives error

and when hypcap is used before the environment definition than it
doesn't work. The figure links just show the figure caption not the

any idea how this could be solved. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I am having some problem with formatting my thesis. I am using Lyx1.6.4
with Miktex 2.7 on Xp machine.

I am writing each chapter in a separate file and then including them in
a master file. Sometimes a used \enlargethispage or \vspace commands to
fill the page properly because extra space is left at the bottom of the
page or by reduing the space between the float and text a bit I can get
a better distributed page. I get each chapter formatted properly and
when I include just that chapter in the master file it works fine I get
the desired results but when I add more than one chapter than in some
cases the changes that I have made doesn't seems to work.

For example, I have attached two images the difference is the extra line
at the bottom of the page in the correct_output file. This is who I
wanted to get the page so I have used \vspace command to move the text
up (\enlagethispage did work that well in this case). The master file
and everything else is same except that I get the desired result when I
am not including the other chapters as child document in the master
file. This happens with the float placement as well, after manual
adjustment I get the float in the desired position when only that
chapter is included in the master file but when I add more chapters in
the master file then the float position changes.

I have kept the margins and float placement as default in the every
child document and only define the margin in the master file and the
float options in the master are top, bottom or pages of float. So any
suggestion why the formatting is changing when more than one child
document is getting added to the master file. Thanks for the help

Underfull \hbox (badness 1) in paragraph at lines 117--134

Which as i know should mean that Latex has to put extra space between
the words. the only other incidance of hbox is the command
\scratchbox=\box29 in th elog file. I have attached the log file just in
case if it makes more sense.

As for hyphenation i am not explicitly defining it but it is done

I tried to use the hyphenat package by putting \usepackage{hyphenate}
just to see if it does stop hyphenation but for some reason that
doesn't do anything. I will check that again but as far as i thing in th

that words might go out of the margin. I hope that this is right.

well if you need more information about how to use fancyhrd than have a

As far as you question goes chage the style of the doucment to fancy
than add the foolowing

\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\pagestyle{fancy}
\lhead{type you name and adress here as you want it to appear}
\chead{\thepage} % this will give you the page number in the center
\rhead{Type the title of ther document here}
\lfoot{}

\renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0.4pt} % these two commands will produce

document it displays something like a, b, c...instead of 1,2,3?

Hi,
You can change the numbering in enumerate environement by adding
commands in the peramble like

\renewcommand{\labelenumi}{\alph{enumi}}

\renewcommand{\labelenumii}{\roman{enumii}}

this will give a,b,c for the first level in enumerate environement and
i,ii,iii in the second level. similarly

\renewcommand{\labelenumi}{\#\Alph{enumi}\#}

\renewcommand{\labelenumii}{\Alph{enumi}.\arabic{enumii}}

will produce A,B,C.. in first and A.i,A.ii,A.iii in the second level
if its nested after A or Bi,Bii,B.iii if its after B

you can read more about this in the Extended feature document in the lyx
in section 7.4

I tried your idea. It works very good too. First I changed the
book.cls like Richard told it. Then I changed the style to fancy and
wrote your commands in the preamble.
I get the page numbers on all pages, on the first page of the chapter
too.

How can I add the name of the chapter or subchapter to the header?

Thanks for your help too!

Hi,
I think it could be done by changing the page style to fancy and adding
the following commands in the peramble

\pagestyle{fancy}
\renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0pt}
\rhead{\thepage}
\lhead{}
\rfoot{}
\lfoot{}
\cfoot{}

But this will not give you the page number on the first page of the
chapter. To add the page number on the first page you have to put
command \thispagestyle{fancy} using ERT at the start of the first line

of the page.

Hi
well i am assuming that you want the name of chapter and
section/subsection on each page for that try adding these commands to
preamble

\renewcommand{\chaptermark}[1]{\markboth{{\thechapter.\ #1}}{}}
\renewcommand{\sectionmark}[1]{\markright{{\thesection.\ #1}}}

than \lhead{\rightmark} and \cfoot{\leftmark} will produce the chapter
name and section/subsection on left side of header and cneter of footer
respectively. But on the first page of the chapter only the chapter name
will apper.

Hello,
I'm writing my thesis with LyX 1.3.7 on WinXP. The class is "book",
the style is "default".
It's working very nice but now I have one question:
Is there an easy way to get the page number top right without
using style "fancy"? The problem is that on every start page of a chapter
the page number is in the footer.
I searched for a solution in the mailinglist, on the LyX wiki and in
one LaTeX book but there are only hints for using fancy. Are there
other possibilities?

Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English

probelm with header and footer

2006-03-27 Thread Kamran SHAFQAT

Hi,

i am trying to put the subsection or section number and the names of
section/subsection in the header. i used the following commands in the
preamble

\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\pagestyle{fancy}

\renewcommand{\subsectionmark}[1]{\markright{\thesubsection.\ #1}}

\fancyhead[L]{\nouppercase \rightmark}

It works on other pages except the first page that have chapter
heading. I can put the chapter number and chapter name in the header on
this page by adding

\renewcommand{\chaptermark}[1]{\markright{\thechapter.\ #1}}

command in the preamble. but i would like to have the section number and
section heading on this page as well like the ohter pages ruther than
chapter information. Can someone please let me know how it could be done

thanks
