Empty \item

2008-12-12 Thread Máté Salát
Hello,

If you are in an enumerate environment what is the recommended way for creating
an \item element with no content? You may need it to have a sub enumerate
environment start at the same line as the previous \item element starts in the
outer enumerate.

I could prevent the empty \item from disappearing by putting an empty ERT box
after it. But there may be a more elegant way for doing it.

2008-10-20 Thread Máté Salát
Hi,

You are right, I can change the ERT font, and I can make collapsed all my ETR
boxes. But on the one hand I prefer to be ETRs opened, and on the other hand it
doesn't change the fact that opened ERTs have improper height.

As for the user guide, in LyX 1.6 it seems to be different:
http://screencast.com/t/L1ppd1sZd0g. I couldn't find the Inline state beyond
the Collapsed and Open. Moreover, Left-clicking on an Open ERT box doesn't
close it.

2008-10-19 Thread Máté Salát
Hello,

I have a small suggestion that would improve the look of lyx documents. On my
screen it seems like this: http://screencast.com/t/PVX7vb98.

You can see the enormous place that the ert boxes take. It is relative huge
even compared to the other box types, e.g. the references.

It could be disturbing if you need to use a lot of ert-s, or these are the only
elements in your document that damage the look of it.

I think it would be worth changing the size of the ert box, and maybe also
changing the ert font type.

thorough enough. If there is a conflict with another program, though,
reinstalling LyX likely will not fix it. :-( Booting into safe mode
was a good idea, but even in safe mode you may have things running in
the background that could be problematic. You might try safe mode again
and, before starting LyX, check for background processes (with Task
Manager or Process Explorer), and kill any that you don't absolutely need.

Unknown software exception (1.6.0rc2)

2008-09-11 Thread Máté Salát
Hello,

I tried to use LyX 1.6.0rc2, but it break down after mostly every usage of copy
and cut even it is performed by short key or by the toolbar button. Before the
shut down of LyX the attached window turns up, always with the same numbers.

I'm in a trouble now, because it prevent me from using LyX and doing my work.

2008-09-11 Thread Máté Salát
Sorry, sorry that I've left out some important information.

I use win xp. It happens not each time when I use ctrl+c, but about 2 times
from every 3. It doesn't depend on if it's text or math. It happens in old
documents and in new ones as well.

In fact I use LyX 1.6 for quite a long time, and it worked fine. Maybe
something has changed on my system since than, I don't know.

I tried to restart Windows in safe mode, and that time LyX was lot more stable,
but I was able to produce the same error.

I'm going to reinstall LyX 1.6 now. How can I run LyX from a terminal?

Try running LyX from a terminal. You ought to get a lot more

I assume you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling? If so, you may need
to revert to 1.5 for a while. You can use the lyx2lyx program, which can
be run from outside LyX, to convert your files into a format that 1.5
can read. Since I don't know your platform, I don't know where the
program is located, but on my system, I'd need to open a terminal and do
  this:
  python /usr/local/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx -t 276 myfile.lyx
  myfile.15.lyx

I did what you said, but starting LyX from cmd has the same result when I start
it by a shortcut.

I removed all LyX versions and put back the
LyX-16rc2-4-08-AltInstaller-Small.exe, but it hasn't helped.

Do you have any further idea I can try with 1.6?

Figure out where LyX 1.6 is. Somewhere like: c:\program

StartRun Command. Enter cmd.exe (I think). Then you get a terminal.
Then type c:\program files\lyx\lyx.exe, or whatever it is.

I understand you related to Windows - Linux. But now I have to solve it on
Windows.

I used the own uninstall process of LyX. and I checked that all LyX related
folders disappeared from C:\Program Files and C:\Documents and
Settings\salat\Application Data. Can I make it more effective?

Thanks your help. At the latest my next windows reinstall should fix the

Well, I don't do Windows (and your experience is part of the reason

Command disabled

2008-08-01 Thread Máté Salát
Hello,

For pressing Ctrl+any number from 1 to 9 LyX says Command disabled on the
status line, independently of the existence of such a hotkey.

What does this message mean? I wanted to set up some custom hotkeys including
these.

Cheers, Máté

Re: Command disabled

2008-08-01 Thread Máté Salát
Rich,

Actually I've specified the hotkey Ctrl+8 but I haven't specified the others
like Ctrl+1, Crtl+2, ...
But as I said the reaction of LyX even for Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+8 is the same
Command disabled text.

Anyway, I use WinXP and LyX 1.6.0beta4 (Fri, Jul 11, 2008). If I want to
specify a new hotkey I use the Shortcut Configuration dialog
(http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/NewInLyX16#toc20). The hotkeys made here by the user
are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\lyx16\bind\user.bind. For example one line in it is: \bind C-8
math-delim ( )

What do you mean by the hotkey's long form?

Re: Command disabled

2008-08-01 Thread Máté Salát
Thanks, Rich. You are right. I changed the bookmark hotkeys, and the disabled
message doesn't appeare any more.

By the way, I have another problem around hotkeys. I've created the \bind M-8
math-delim ( ) hotkey. I realized that after each starting of LyX it doesn't
consider the first usage of Alt+8, it does only the further ones. It has been
annoying me for a long time. But now I tried to set up this hotkey using the
Shortcut Configuration dialog. It made visible the difference between the first
and the rest presses of Alt+8.

To see it, go to modify the shortcut of some function just after starting LyX.
When the Shortcut field is active press Alt+8 several times. First Alt+?
appears but after it always Alt+8 comes. I tried this on several computers
with WinXP. All have the same problem.

I think you can load the makecmds package and then use
\provideenvironment to conditionally define each environment you are
  going to rename.

  That said, I suspect there is a better approach. I'm a English(US)-only
user, so I'm speculating, but my guess is that most people who want to
translate the AMS environment names either want to use the translated
names in all their documents, or in a good portion of their documents
(the rest likely remaining in English?). So making them put the
translations in the preamble each time they are using their native
language is inefficient. The efficient solution is to do the
translations once, in the AMS layout files, and if necessary create two
sets of AMS layouts (one for language A, one for language B). The user
then picks either article (AMS) or article (AMS-Klingon) from the
  document class list.

There are a set of AMS layout files on the wiki in German (I think
provided by Georg Baum), but they're from LyX 1.3, and we've since made
some changes to the layouts. The layouts will undergo another major
change in LyX 1.6, when they will become modules. So my suggestion is
that either (a) we start a page on the wiki where people can
post/download translations or (b) we provide a script that the user can
run locally that will prompt the user for translations of the names and
generate a new set of layouts. (Actually, a third approach would be a
script that let you upload a list of translated terms and then generated
the AMS files and put them on the wiki for general distribution.
Assuming we could trust the users to provide non-scatological
  translations ...)

You might want to post this either on the wiki feature poll or in
bugzilla as an enhancement request. I'd do it myself, but since I'm
deeply monolingual, it's not something I need. Neither solution would
  be particularly difficult, though.

described at http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/I18nLabels.

The problem is that you can not place the items
   \newtheorem{NewName_e}{NewLabel_e}
   \renewenvironment{OrigName_e}{\begin{NewName_e}}{\end{NewName_e}}
for all the environments (e = cor, lem, prop, ...), but you can only place them
for those environments that are actually used in the lyx document. For example
the attached LyX file can not be compiled for this reason.

This issue makes complicated the creation and development of documents because
you have to adjust the preamble to the present set of the used environments all
the time.
Even when a new environment appears you have to remember to translate the new
environment, or when an environment disappears totally you need remove the
related part to be able to compile the document. It also prevent you from using
the same preamble file for different documents.

Maybe the renewenvironment command should be put behind a condition "if the
environment OrigName_e exists than..." but I don't know how to implement this.

Paragraph break before display formula

If I have a display formula in a text, it can not be seen whether there is a

Can the paragraph breaks be displayed?

Hi,

Nobody has any idea about LyX converters? I try again hoping to get a respond.

What does LyX when it converts an images? Where the input images are copied,
and what is the exact form of the line
inkscape --file=$$i --export-area-drawing --without-gui --export-pdf=$$o
line substituted the input and output path? My problem is that if I execute it
myself then the result differs from the LyX converted one (also in the white

  Hi,

I made some further test on the conversation method of LyX 1.5.5, and I found
it's behavior very strange.
The point is that I copied the SVG - PDF converter line from the Preferences:

  inkscape --file=$$i --export-area-drawing --without-gui --export-pdf=$$o

I replaced the $$ elements with my file names:

  inkscape --file=C:\GombSokszog.svg --export-area-drawing --without-gui
--export-pdf=C:\GombSokszog.pdf

I opened the Run dialog of Windows, pasted it, executed it. The result was
what is expected, the C:\GombSokszog.png was included in the PDF file as well
as the other things.
So the converter of Inkscape seems to be good.

If I compile my LyX file then LyX copies the C:\GombSokszog.svg to the
temporary directory (...\lyx_tmpdir2684a05928\lyx_tmpbuf0) but it doesn't copy
the PNG file. A PDF file also appears in the temporary directory, but the PNG
image is missing from the PDF.

Copying the PNG file into the temporary directory before compiling the LyX
file doesn't help.

What is happening here? Why Inkscape doesn't find the PNG file at the moment
of converting the SVG?
All the mensioned files are in the folder http://zaradek.hu/svg/files/.

aren't shown up: http://zaradek.hu/svg/Crashed_toolbar.png.

I made some further test on the conversation method of LyX 1.5.5, and I found
it's behavior very strange.

The point is that I copied the SVG - PDF converter line from the Preferences:

inkscape --file=$$i --export-area-drawing --without-gui --export-pdf=$$o

I replaced the $$ elements with my file names:

inkscape --file=C:\GombSokszog.svg --export-area-drawing --without-gui
--export-pdf=C:\GombSokszog.pdf

I opened the Run dialog of Windows, pasted it, executed it. The result was what
is expected, the C:\GombSokszog.png was included in the PDF file as well as the
other things.

So the converter of Inkscape seems to be good.

If I compile my LyX file then LyX copies the C:\GombSokszog.svg to the
temporary directory (...\lyx_tmpdir2684a05928\lyx_tmpbuf0) but it doesn't copy
the PNG file. A PDF file also appears in the temporary directory, but the PNG
image is missing from the PDF.

Copying the PNG file into the temporary directory before compiling the LyX file
doesn't help.

What is happening here? Why Inkscape doesn't find the PNG file at the moment of
converting the SVG?

All the mensioned files are in the folder http://zaradek.hu/svg/files/.

Cheers, Máté

Thanks, I did what you told me. It works now, in LyX Preferences SVG
converters appeared using Inkscape.

I have a problem with SVGs containing raster picture. I made a capture to
explain the case: http://zaradek.hu/svg/Linked_image_not_found.png. I use
Inkscape to put captions made by LaTeX onto the 3D raster picture. I put it
into LyX but the raster image is missing from the LyX window and (after
compiling the LyX file) from the PDF as well. It would be great to fix this
problem.

The other thing I noticed (but it's not relevant for me) is that if I open
the SVG file from LyX then the toolbar of Inkscape collapses, the button images
aren't shown up: http://zaradek.hu/svg/Crashed_toolbar.png.

  Cheers, Máté

If I insert an SVG image into my LyX document and compile it then the
automatic
conversation gives a wrong sized image with wide white border on the
bottom and on
the right side. So it won't be centered on the page and so on. If I open
the SVG in
Inkscape and save it in PDF then I get the Image with the right size.
The mentioned
  files are at http://zaradek.hu/svg.

When you install LyX using this installer:
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller

Inkscape is used to convert the SVG to PDF as you want it.
The whitespace problem you described was a bug in ImageMagick (that also
appears for PDF and PS
images). To get a fixed version:

- uninstall the Existing ImageMagick (if you have it installed)
- reinstall LyX 1.5.5 using the obove mentioned installer that delivers the
latest ImageMagick
