Re: changing Xfig figures in LyX
Hello Georg, I am sorry for the very late reply, but I was away for the last few days! The file Test.lyx which I had sent to you was correct and also read the file TestFig.fig, but for some reason LyX seems to change the name of the file from TestFig.fig to LyX when I include it via External Material. This can be fixed though, by saving Test.lyx before including TestFig.fig. Still when I do this and then run pdflatex, I get the error, empty output file was created again. Also a message pops up saying somthing like Latex Eror: File 'o_Users_philippfleig_Documents_LyX_Documents_Lab_Figures_TestFig.pdftex _t and (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes) Sorry for bothering you over such a long period of time with this problem, but whatever I do it just does not work. Thank you for your great help! Philipp Am 02.02.2007 um 09:57 schrieb Georg Baum: Philipp Fleig wrote: Hello, ok. Attached you find a sample .lyx + xfig file. I read on http://www.xfig.org/ userman/latex_and_xfig.html something about the psfig package. Could it be this, which I am missing? No. Your test file does not include the figure. It includes a file named ../../../LyX. If I change that to read TestFig.fig, and if I save TestFig.fig in the same directory as Test.lyx, then it works just fine here. Georg

Re: changing Xfig figures in LyX
Hello Georg, hello Curtis, thank you very much for the kind help. Unfortunately it still does not work. So just to get this right. What I include in LyX via Insert-File- External material is the original Xfig file .fig and not some .latex file which I exported in Xfig!? Now, when I do this and include the .fig file in my document and then try to run pdflatex I get an error saying 'Empty output file was created'. Also, if I tick 'Show in LyX' when I include the .fig file, the figure does not show up. What am I doing wrong? Probably it is something really simple which I should know myself...Sorry I'm a beginner. Thanks. Philipp Am 01.02.2007 um 09:43 schrieb Georg Baum: Philipp Fleig wrote: Hello, thanks for your quick reply. Basically this is what I have done, although instead of Insert- External I used File-Import-Latex (Plain). Don't use that for xfig figures. I don't have Insert-External in my LyX version, which is 1.4.3, run on a Mac. Is what I have done equivalent to what you suggest? No. I cited the menu from memory and was wrong, the correct one is rather Insert-File-External material. Probably I did not make this clear in my first post, but I can't actually create a final document with the changes I made to the file, because I get the error which I described earlier. If you do what I suggested you will not get errors (of course this assumes that you did not enter invalid LaTeX in xfig text fields). Georg

changing Xfig figures in LyX
Hello everybody, I am not sure whether this forum is the right adress for my question, but I will give it a try anyway. I have created a number of images using Xfig, which all have labels/ text in them. Unfortunately the text does not come out very well and I would also like to include some math symbols, which Xfig cannot do anyway. Therefore I would now like to edit the latex files of the images, which I exported in Xfig. The only problem is that when I try to convert the edited latex file in LyX back to a pdf or postscript, I get lots of errors saying things like 'undefined sequence' ... I guess the problme is that I am missing some package, but I do not really know which one. Does anyone know how to fix this? Should say that I am a beginner. Thank you. Best Wishes, Philipp

Insert the xfig files via Insert-External material and not the graphics inset. Then you can simply mark any text in xfig as 'special' and write LaTeX code such as formulas. This LaTeX code will then be automatically rendered in the document font in the final ps or pdf document. You don't need to export anything, LyX and xfig will do the right magic for you. math symbols
Hi all, recently I installed LyX 1.3.3-Win32 on my computer. When I tried to display a math formula I had to realize, that math symblos like for instance the integral sign are represented by totally different symbols in my document. For example an integral becomes an H. Can anyone of you help me? Thank you very much Philipp
math symbols
Hi all, recently I installed LyX 1.3.3-Win32 on my computer. When I tried to display a math formula I had to realize, that math symblos like for instance the integral sign are represented by totally different symbols in my document. For example an integral becomes an H. Can anyone of you help me? Thank you very much Philipp

Saving and converting LyX Files
Dear LyX Users, a few days ago I started with LyX, so I'm a beginner. I installed LyX 1.3.3-Win32 on my PC with Windows XP. But now I have got a problem and I hope that one of you might be able to help me! Here is the problem: For a test I created a LyX File and then converted it into a pdf (pdfLaTeX) file. Everything went right so far. Then I created another LyX file, but before converting it I pressed 'save as' and saved it in a folder which contains my personal files. This folder is called 'Eigene Dateien' as I'm german. After that I again tried to convert this file into pdf (pdfLaTeX). But this time the following error turned up: Cannot run LaTeX The path to the lyx file cannot contain spaces! Trying to avoid this error I created another folder which doesn't contain a space like there is one in the name 'Eigene Dateien'. Unfortunately this didn't work either and the same error turned up again. Can anyone of you help me? Thank you!!! Philipp Fleig
