lyx2lyx fails to convert

2022-08-18 Thread Tim J Garrett
Running MacOS Monterrey and getting this error message trying to open
old lyx files as recent as 2016:

“file.lyx is from an older version of LyX and the lyx2lyx script
failed to convert it.”

Unclear what to do from online forums. Any advice? I’m not a
developer, so step-by-step would be appreciated. I have tried installing
old versions of lyx but without success. Below is the lyx preamble

Thanks

Re: AGU article class

Hello Martin,
These are the layout files I have. It does look like something may be remiss in what I currently
have working, based on comparisons to what you show.

Thankyou for you guidance.

Therefore, could I see your agums.layout file (that's where this info

# AGUplus manuscript textclass definition file.
# Author: Martin Vermeer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Input aguplus.inc

Other agums
End
---

aguplus jgrga article (AGU) false

Where did this one come from? Nonsense!

jgrga aguplus article (AGU++) JGR true

This is OK.

Since the last shows up in my list of document classes but the first two are listed as unavailable
it seems that somehow false needs to be true? How?

This is weird. Does agums.sty occur in your file textclass.lst
(re-generated if you reconfigure) as it does in mine? Like a line
agums aguplus article (AGU++) manuscript false
If not, you could try and add it manually. System-wide or local (under
~/.lyx). Weird though if you would need to do that.

AGU article class

2004-05-14 Thread Tim J. Garrett
Hello,

I have been successfully using the AGU plus and AGU ms classes with a little (a lot) of much
appreciated assistance from Martin Vermeer and Angus Leeming. However, it has required some trickery
that includes exporting the lyx document as latex, and running a shell script on the latex document
that removes natbib references in the file. I have all AGU .cls .bst .sty, and .layout files
installed. In the document window I then choose the appropriate AGU class and specify the
appropriate AGU options.

Now it seems in version 1.3.4, that this has been simplified, and that these classes have been
formally added to LyX, however these show up in the document class list as

Unavailable: article (AGU)

and

Unvailable: article (AGU ms)

How exactly does one make these unavailable?

TIA

Tim

Re: AGU article class

2004-05-14 Thread Tim J. Garrett
This is what I found from Edit-Reconfigure that seemed vaguely relevant:

+checking for document class agums [article, /home/tgarrett/LyX/STYFILES/agums.
+checking for document class aguplus [jgrga, /home/tgarrett/LyX/STYFILES/aguplu
-obviously my files (not my truncation)

and

+checking for document class jgrga [aguplus,jgrga.sty]... yes

Nothing else...

As an aside, plenty of other document classes are also unavailable (e.g. AASTeX). Curiously there
was a statement for

+checking for document class aastex [aastex]... no

but nothing equivalent for AGU (unless jgrga is the equivalent).

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

this means that lyx has found the layout files to enable you to edit
your document but has not found the latex .cls files etc that enable
you to typeset it.
If you run lyx from a console and Edit-Reconfigure, does the output
from the configuration process provide any illumination?

Paragraph Alignment

2004-03-04 Thread Tim J. Garrett
Hi,
Is there anyone who know how to apply a single paragraph alignment elegantly to an entire document,
or better yet everythings that is Standard (i.e. not caption or abstract) in the text body? Doing
things paragraph by paragraph, or a full text selection with the mouse seems unnecessarily
cumbersome. Can't find solution in TT or Wiki.

Thanks

change References to other

2003-11-14 Thread Tim J. Garrett
Along the lines of the previous posting from Paul Smith on relabeling theorems, how might one change
References to Publications in the article class? I am using Bibtex generated references.
\renewbibliography doesn't appear to be analogous to \renewtheorem

Thanks
Tim

different ways of citing in article text

2003-08-07 Thread Tim J. Garrett
Hello all.

Hoping someone can help with this.

With some kind help from Martin Vermeer, I have successfully managed to install my favorite
journal's sty cls and bst files, combined with a .layout file previously developed. This is all
great, and it works pretty much beautifully, except for one major thing:

My journal of choice (AGU) has two ways of putting citations in text that are undoubtedly included
in the .bst file from their website (at least they show up in the actual publications). For example:

Twomey [1959] gave an approximate analytical solution for.

vs.

An approximate analytical solution exists [Twomey, 1959] that.

Currently if I enter a citation reference using the bibtex window, only the first format shows in
the dvi, and there is no apparent option for having a citation reference exist using the second format.

This issue has cropped up a couple of times in this list, based on a simple search, but I haven't
seen a solution. Is there one?

Thankyou

Tim

citation numbering and overcite.sty

2003-06-11 Thread Tim J. Garrett
Hello,
Hoping someone can help with this. The scientific
journal Nature has its own peculiar citation style for
submissions. Being a latex novice, I am trying to make
this work with lyx, but without a lot of luck.
To make a citation number superscript the archive
suggests putting in the preamble
\usepackage{overcite.sty}

This makes things superscript, but the numbering
doesn't happen (i.e. all reference superscripts are a
question mark in the dvi). How is this fixed? It's not
a problem when the references are not superscripted.
Second, for numerous references, nature separates the
references by commas if there are two (e.g. 5,6) but,
if more, with a dash (e.g. 5-7).
I am using the article (AMS, unnumbered) class.
TIA
