Impressed

2011-11-18 Thread Torquil Macdonald Sørensen

Hi!

I was just going to post a question to this list requesting a function to find
all my LyX notes that I have written throughout a large document. But a hunch
made me check out the different categories in the drop-down menu in the Outline
dialogue before I submitted.

And what do you know, somebody had already thought of it! It can show me a list
of all my notes! And it even shows the content of the note in the Outline
dialogue...

LyX impresses again!

Best regards
Torquil Macdonald Sørensen

Me too. I think of all LyX's many features, the one that impresses me
most is that it's built from the bottom up for authoring speed. No
crashes. No accidental repeated whitespace. For the most part,
everything you want to do is an easy keystroke or quick click. Compile
is reasonably fast, especially if you compile only to DVI.

Here are things I think would make LyX even faster for authoring:

1) Better/easier keystrokes for working with character styles. In a
full day of authoring I can use character styles over 100 times.

2) Restore the recently removed easy menu choices for compile to PDF
via ps2pdf and compile to DVI. I could use both of these tens of times
a day.

3) Complete the outlining feature so you can add headlines.

Keep in mind LyX is already faster for authoring than MSWord, and of
course faster than that garbage heap called OpenOffice. But the addition
of the three points I mention would make LyX's authoring speed INSANE.

Thanks,

SteveT

But seriously, I don't think it would be fair to expect that. LyX is mean
to be focused on making things easy and straightforward for everyone. Vi
keystroke would not achieve that. I guess that could be an option, but it
shouldn't be LyX's focus.

You can easily customize these to your tastes. If I understand you
correctly, check LFUN_TEXTSTYLE_APPLY and LFUN_TEXTSTYLE_UPDATE.

 2) Restore the recently removed easy menu choices for compile to PDF

You can always do this yourself by placing stdmenus.inc into your 'ui'
folder in your profile, and customize it to your tastes. For
inspiration, you can take a 1.6 stdmenus.inc and copy the desired
lines into stdmenus.inc in your profile.

 3) Complete the outlining feature so you can add headlines.

Fingers crossed for Rob to find time for this. Regards
