Editing the same file by alternate booting to both Windows and Linux is a brave
move and I hope you do regular backups :) If by chance your Windows hibernate
and
you try to edit the lyx file in linux on the mounted drive meanwhile, you might
end up with data loss after new reboot to windows...

Anyway, if the images are stored not that far away, you can use manually
inserted
"../" in paths (e.g. "../../another_project/fig1.eps") so it does not depend
on linux vs windows path start and work in both of them.

Pavel,

For what it's worth, I created a small test file (on Linux Mint) with a
single image and saved it. The \origin line you asked about says
"\origin unavailable". The lines inserting the image read

\begin_inset Graphics
    filename /home/paul/Documents/OSS License.png

\end_inset

and the image loads properly when I open the document. Now we need Ehud
to give a similar reply, to which we can compare this.

Interesting. Mine file-manager does _not_ start lyx so that the working

I'm using LyX 2.3.4.2 on Mint (similar setup to Ehud, although I'm using
Mint 18.3 rather than 19.3 and MATE rather than XFCE), and I confirm
that when I start LyX by double-clicking a .lyx file, the LyX working

Could you check, if the correct (absolute) path is stored in the lyx-file?
Do you refer to lyx2.3.?
Do you start lyx always from the same directory (in case the paths are stored
relative)?

I don't see that you are doing anything wrong.

Paths forgotten?

2020-05-05 Thread UD Kap

I have a Lyx/Beamer presentation which compiles just fine.
However, when I return to it a day later, I get numerous errors
"cannot determine the size of the graphics..".  It seems that the
connections to the images that are not in the same directory as
the Lyx presentation are lost, and I have to click on the image
place-holder in the Lyx file, navigate to the correct place in the
directory where the image files are stored, and click OK.  For the
remainder of that editing session, everything works fine, but when
I return a day or two later, I have to do it all over again.
What am I doing wrong?  The images that are in the same
directory where the Lyx file is are fine, but the others are
elsewhere.  Since some of them I use often, I don't want to keep
copies of them for every presentation I prepare.  How do I make
the paths to the other directories remembered across editing
  sessions?
Thanks,
E. Kaplan
