Dear Roel,

Go to Document Settings > Float Placement and check "Use default placement".

This should ideally be done automatically (because placement options
are not allowed for this type of float) by LyX, but this is not
implemented yet (this is feature enhancement
http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/7752).

Thanks, with this setting DVI works as well. I can add a "titel" and then
DVI viewer shows the text as expected. If I remove nols again, the error
message as described above is stopping the DVI-viewer.

So what next? What element of my LyX/TeX installation needs to be
tweaked?

Thank you for your comment. Where can I add the class option nols? In
addition, as to my previous post, it has to do something with the
"title" configuration (it only happens, if there is a title line in the
file) and it also occurs with the postscript viewer
(which maybe isn't a surprise).

Thanks for your comment. What I have further found out, it only occurs as
soon as I add a "title" to the tufte book class.
Then DVI and additionally als PS does not
work. If I remove the title again, it works with these viewers.

Does adding the class option 'nols' get rid of the errors? Note that
this also removes letterspacing, an important part of the Tufte

I don't have the prerequisites installed to use this class, so can't be

don't myself see anything in the generated LaTeX that could be causing

tufte layout - does not work in lyx anymore using DVI

2013-09-12 Thread seacyd
When I try to use the tufte book layout I get the following error
message:

! Argument of \MakeTextUppercase has an extra }.

Detailed error message:

In order to see, if you get the same error message, please open the file

view it as DVI.

If I create a new file manually, change the document class to tufte and
create a title for a book, the same error message gets shown.

I have arch/manjaro installed und use LyX 2.0.6 with texlive 2013.30815-2.

Is there anything I can do to make tufte layout work again, as it did at

P.S.: If I view it with pdflatex it works.

Troubles with tufte layout

2011-02-09 Thread Karl Linek
Hello,

I'm using the tufte layout documentclass with the options justified und
marginals=raggedright. This should justify the text, but not the
sidenotes and marginnotes. But LyX produces justfied marginnotes and
justified sidenotes too. I exported the text to normal Latex an compiled
it with another program. It worked fine now, but it should not be not
the aim of LyX.

If I use LyX to write marginnotes it always uses \marginpar. There is no
option for \marginnote or \sidenote. Therfore on has to use ERT.

Even LyX supports the marginfloat environment the offset option is not
supported. Again one has to use ERT.

Re: Tufte layout?

2009-12-21 Thread Joachim Osnabryg
How to get an tufte-book style like title block (capitalized sans serif)
in Handout (Tufte) in LyX:

The possible document options of both the tufte-book and -handout classes
and other features can be looked after, of course, in the sample-book.pdf,
see:

http://tufte-latex.googlecode.com/files/sample-book-3.5.0.pdf
And other questions on the tufte-latex classes or feature requests might
better be discussed in the Mailing List / Forum of the tufte-latex project
at:

http://groups.google.com/group/tufte-latex?hl=en

Nevertheless,
after the information how to get the tufte classes working in LyX, already
given in this thread, and to make around this thread on "Tufte layout?", I
would like to give to all interested a last hint about a document option
alternative in tufte-handout which even me discovered only some day ago:

If in handout you want to get a tufte-book style like title block
(capitalized sans serif) instead of the handout default roman italic, you
have to choose the document option

sfsidenotes

- in LyX to type into the Document=>Options=>Document class pane, section
Class options => User defined (field).
This is coupled, for the time being, with typesetting the margin material
("footnotes", marginnotes etc.) also in sans serif.

(I had always put this doc options because of sans serif sidenotes and
discovered only now the possibility of getting roman italic title block
when deleting this sfsidenote option).

So far my final hint within this thread,
joachim

as promised, here you get the information, how and where to get the
tufte-common.def file, patched by the developer for the use with LyX.

Call http://tufte-latex.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/tufte-common.def
in your browser, save it as such (or .txt file and rename it then to
tufte-common.def) and put it on the place of the existing, overwriting it.
I. e. into your user _home_ "texmf" directory - on my Mac that is:
~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/tufte-latex/
Might be that you have to create some of these sub-directories first.
Unfortunately I don't know which one and where it is in MiXTeX…

I understood that you have already installed the actuel LyX 1.6.5 (of
2009/12/05), so you need not to download the LyX layout files from the LyX
website.

Don't forget sudo texhash (on Mac) and LyX=>reconfigure,
then you should be ready to go with the tufte-latex classes in LyX!

Hello, Joachim.

The patch is in the latest svn (r139). If folks don't want to use
svn, they may download the .def file directly from:

http://tufte-latex.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/tufte-common.def

Just overwrite your existing tufte-common.def file with this one and
you should be set.

I have a couple more bugs I'd like to fix before I push out another

Sorry, I forgot that I am already tufte LyXing on the basis of a patched
tufte-common.def file, which was given to Uwe Stöhr and me by the tufte
developer. Since it cannot be sent to the lyx-users ML, I have first to
care about how to get it. I'll give notice, when I know.

A nessessary addition for using the tufte-latex in LyX, a communication of
tufte developer Kevin Godby and his patched tufte-common.def file as
attachment (if it passes to the list), to save as replacement of the
existing tufte-common.def of the actuel tufte-latex3.5.0.zip:

Hello again, gentlemen.

I've attached a patched tufte-common.def file that you can try it. It
should allow you to use \title and \author in either the preamble or
the document itself.

I'm using a different hyperref detection mechanism now -- one that
isn't restricted to the preamble.

If the hyperref package is loaded (either by the Tufte-LaTeX document
class or the user in the document preamble), then \title will set the
PDF title (and similarly for \author). If hyperref is not loaded,
then the PDF title/author will not be set.

Please let me know how this works for you. I have a couple other
small bugs to fix up and then I'll see about pushing a point release.

Thanks!

I don't think that is is shure that the newest version is already within
the CTAN tlnet repositories.

As I already wrote in the thread "pro culture of margin notes":
-
To get the actual release tufte-latex 3.5 go to:
http://code.google.com/p/tufte-latex/
and download the tufte-latex-3.5.0.zip, direct download link:
http://tufte-latex.googlecode.com/files/tufte-latex-3.5.0.zip

and put the expanded files
tufte-common.def
tufte-book.cls
tufte-handout.cls

into your user _home_ "texmf" directory - on my Mac that is:
~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/tufte-latex/
Might be that you have to create some of these sub-directories first.
Unfortunately I don't know which one and where it is in MiXTeX…

I understood that you have already installed the actuel LyX 1.6.5 (of
2009/12/05), so you need not to download the LyX layout files from the LyX
website.

Good luck,
joachim

It seems to. I just did an upgrade from 1.6.4 using the LyXInstaller (update)
and I now have the two examples.

However there definately are tufte book and handout examples in the example
file. Currently I am having a problem with a missing font that drops the title
when I'm using the book.layout and when I try the handout example in dvi
(MiXTeX - YAP) but another user (Joachim) reports no problem under Mac OS.

There is no problem when exporting to pdf.

Are you sure that it is loaded in your Latex version? I don't know if it is
automatically included in LaTeX.

You should not have to but as I mentioned above I am not sure that it is
automatically included in a Latex installation so you may have to install
tufte-book there.

Tufte layout?

2009-12-20 Thread bb
I found some remarks, that there is a new layout called tufte in lyx
available. I found a remark printed in red on
http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Tufte-book that this new layout (book
+handout) should be added with the new lyx release 1.6.5 automatically:

As of version 1.6.5, LyX includes a Tufte-book layout and example file.

May be I misunderstand that sentence? My interpretation was, that
Tufte-Book is included as i. e. book(KOMA-script). Instead I find an
entry with "not available" in the list of document classes.

Is it a packaging error or is it my misinterpretation an I have to
install Tufte-layouts myself? (That is explained at
http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/UserDir)

Regards
